I remember when my then GF wouldn't consent to an ER pelvic exam while having an asthma attack, and chocolate was our only medication to help her breath. Fortunately it did help.

RE: The guy who coded Kishi Kaisei MUX [L5R]
Depends on the games. Some games try to have a unified mechanic for how to resolve things, and Imean more unified than say Chronicles of Darkness uses pools of D10s.
Some games try to direct play towards what they think is fun. So FATE really liked people being able to use the surroundings, and details about the NPCs to tailor their actions (fiction) towards what was designed in to be used.
The only thing interesting about the FFG Star Wars to me is that the bizarre dice are averaged so the positive stuff outweighs the negative.
They have a whole bunch of ways to use advantage and disadvantage to give events details and new directions, but no real direction with that, nor even an idea of if its really important, or a complete byproduct.
The short version is their weirdly specific dice, and their routinely specific feat maze just make you dependent on their materials, without offering anything. It's like saying I made a game that uses D12s, because that is an amazing difference from d10s or whatever.
The longer version: I'd like to see a write up ALL about using those dice results to drive the story, without suggestions and guidelines. I'd also like to see a version where its just used to do low end things.
Basically, I find the game no more interesting than D6 Star wars, nor more insightful or representative of Star Wars. So why do it, other than its the new somewhat different consumable?

RE: The guy who coded Kishi Kaisei MUX [L5R]
The new star wars game isn't that interesting.
It has new, mysterious dice, and some "new" mysterious things, but no focus on how to make the game go, or any new ideas. Its really entrenched in things that require charts.

RE: The Apology Thread
Is there a way to interact further with reduction of friction?
No?
Okay. We won't interact anymore.
Whether their actions are universally horrid, or just rough on you and people like you, nothing is worth it. Walk away. And if they need reminding, say stay away.
Change in situation is the only thing worth sticking around for, perhaps even working for, and when you think its not likely, move on. There are plenty of people who will abuse that small window of social opportunity we try to extend one another without putting up with flat out problems.

RE: XP Tax
Seems simpler to set you soft cap, and have players track what they spend their over the cap xp on.
If skills fading, or becoming outdated is a thing, just assign a penalty to the skill and some sort of task (say learning rolls) to re-update.
XP are not a learning simulator. So assess how they behave based on what you want players to experience, and do about it, and what you want your world to do.

RE: RL Anger
Dang, my work says if you are sick, stay home. If someone complains that you seem sick, they'll send you home and often you'll get paid for it anyway.

RE: Dead Celebrity Thread
Astronauts of all nations hold a special place in my heart. Often the best of the best, willing to literally put their lives on the line for their country's prestige, or science, and the focus of so many hopes and dreams.
I am glad he died on earth of natural causes after a long full life.

RE: Rate A Concept
I find that it reflects their war gaming Rail Wars better than a RPG. To me it's generic approach to things sucks the life right out of everything.
When I learned the powder Mage series was being made into a RPG, I kick started it heavily. When I read that it would be Savage Worlds I dropped almost all of it. it went from something I would use and love to supporting the authors efforts.
So
on Savage Worlds. If you think GURPS can suck the life out of something, you haven't seen lifeless yet.

RE: Alts and PrPs
My consideration would be whether the alts act mainly to pass on info to their spheres, and how heavily they are likely to slant that information towards their interests within that sphere.
So even if the player is very aware of the issues, if they play a very opinionated or manipulative character, they are likely a risk to the conflict of interests concern.

Looks like something that decompiles something and saves the output.

RE: Shadows Over Reno
I'd say it matters if the littlest task is preventing someone from playing.

RE: Social Conflict via Stats
What are the goals, the positives, of a social conflict system?
I said before: chance to have others learn some about my character, and the mirror, I get a chance to learn about theirs.
Have appropriate skills, and social advantages and disadvantages matter.
Make clear the limits of quick influence, as well as long term influence. (I'm a limiting sort of guy, I like to savor things.)
Don't dilute strong personal values.
Let the player be clear when they are solid in the area of effort, as well as when they are gambling big.
Suggest compromises to the players, with a guideline to what is enough and what is too little or too much.
Have it be reasonably easy to quick glance at all of the above and just play through without rolls and have it be a decent approximation.

RE: Social Conflict via Stats
Well, one of my goals is to have other players learn my character and how they tick, whether they are easy to manipulate, or hard, low risk or dangerous.
I place a lot of value on making the effort, and the skills to discover the better approaches, and the levers I have built into my characters. Frankly, I can't see someone getting very far with most PC types because most are dangerous and difficult, unless they learn those approaches and levers.

RE: Shadows Over Reno
Why not give the challenge to the players: "Over the next two weeks, arrange, backstory, or RP through things such that you have X Y and Z as shared topics/goals/problems. Then come to me."
