@Cobaltasaurus Company policy. We have to do the same thing. I've had customers call me all kinds of names because they couldn't buy cigarettes or alcohol for having someone in their group that didn't bring their ID. Instead of them getting mad at the idiot that didn't bring their ID with them. I still don't get why full grown adults don't carry their ID around with them everywhere...

RE: Storytelling
Ah, but awarding for participation favors everyone. Not just the uberactive. Sure, the people who show up to EVERY EVENT EVER are going to get more xp. That's... just a fact. But if you have someone with a limited amount of time to RP, are they more likely to sign up for the 4-5 hour dangerous combat scene or the party event where they can grab an extra Beat for just hanging out and socializing for an hour or two? If you stop rewarding for those mundane social events, then you're DEFINITELY going to see more of the HM deal where people felt they could never possibly compete with the 900+ xp dinos.

@mietze I think you might need to double-check here, hun. Nobody, until you, was talking pvp. Character death in plot or prp is generally at the hands of NPC's. Consent isn't just about player versus player. It goes for accepting inherent danger in dangerous situations... as ST'd with NPC's.
I have been talking almost exclusively about PvP scenarios, and they absolutely happen.
I'm not saying they don't. But I was absolutely not talking about pvp (specifically, anyways), I was talking about character death as a whole. I refuse to base an entire discussion about character death solely on ONE aspect of it.

Amen to the tea thing! I had to learn that when I moved to Florida. XD That very first sip of tea lead to a comical reaction.

RE: Where's your RP at?
@surreality I don't see why we're being held to a higher standard than you're holding yourself, or others, to. The same exact argument, reversed, has been getting thrown up here over and over again as to why games that allow non-consent PC death (whether by pvp or NPC) should be avoided or not allowed. I'm being told that because I like a game that has a risk of character death, that I am obviously advocating for PVP and PKing and that I want everyone's character to die. I never told anyone they had to play on that game. I never suggested that if you don't want your character to die that you should play there anyways. I'm actively saying, if you don't want that to happen, then don't play on a game where that can happen. I'm questioning why people that don't want character death to be a thing will play on a game where character death is a thing.
PK and PVP is a thing. But it happens to a SMALL percentage of characters. Character death at ALL is relatively rare, even on most non-consent games. I'm honestly curious if people are so attached to a single character that they can't bear to see it die? Is it because so many characters and games over the years have petered out, fizzled, or otherwise died before people got to come to any kind of conclusion for the characters that now they insist on their story running its course, for however long that may last? I just can't form that kind of deep attachment to... a fictional character that doesn't exist beyond my own head. So I try to understand why people are clinging so hard to a single character or story.

@Royal Please tell me it was some young 20-something that probably got the car as a present from mommy and daddy.

RE: MSB: The meta-discussion
@Thenomain You know, I have never played a 7th Sea game, but i have had so many friends tell me how amazing it is that I would absolutely try it. Also... pirates. God I would kill for a good pirate game. I WANT TO BE A PIRATE DAMMIT.

RE: Dead Celebrity Thread
I'm withholding judgment until I see it. I didn't think the first one was going to amount to anything either. And that turned out amazing. I'm willing to give JJ some leeway.

RE: Do you believe in paranormal things?
@Arkandel Belief is a weird thing. Just look at religion if you want to know how weird. Big men in the sky responsible for everything that happens, good or bad? Big men that want to judge and punish you for the failings that they themselves instilled into you? Big men that will still forever love you, no matter how much you disappoint them and scorn them? That's some... crazy weird shit right there.
So if you remove the caveat, you're opening up the possibility, the potential, of belief. Belief doesn't require proof. Its sort of like... Santa Claus. When everyone was a kid, Santa Claus was real because we believed he was real. When we got older and found out it wasn't true, it sucked for a bit, Christmas became a little less fun, but we get over it, belief having been empirically proven wrong by science.
So yeah, I'll say I believe in paranormal things. Because really, is it going to kill me to get a thrill from ghosts and psychics for a little longer, until science thoroughly debunks them and shows how it works? Nope! I want my mind to fuck with me, just a little. Because if all I ever saw, ever, were the things that are absolutely true and real and confirmed, etc. Life would be fucking boring.
Bring on the shades and shadows and ghosts! Let me enjoy being scared by Poltergeist and the Exorcist and Night of the Living Dead with just this tiny part of me insisting that ti could be real! And may science never get around to debunking the weird shit I love in my lifetime.

Also, HR says he's working on the Stanley Parable achievement for MSB. He's not likely to rejoin anytime soon (I believe someone wondered, up above somewhere).
ES
Presumably the 'Go outside' achievement? I'm fairly certain its not the one that requires him to spend an entire Tuesday on MSB. XD

RE: Do you believe in paranormal things?
@Arkandel I'm not even talking faith, just belief. Faith, to me, is applied almost solely to religion. Whereas belief can be... just about anything.

RE: MSB: The meta-discussion
@Ghost Yeah, that's great. Except that is not how reviews work. Seriously. Go onto Amazon. Pick a product and look at the reviews. Maybe 20% of either the good and bad reviews are about something wrong with the actual product that provides pictures, references, or some form of 'proof' or about something right with the actual product that delves any deeper than 'I like it because it works for me'. The other 80% is just people bitching/raving about the product either because something took too long, something was 'too complicated', the product didn't last for 10 years despite being made of plywood, etc. or because they joined a club that lets them get products super cheap in exchange for leaving a positive review on the site, they get a discount for writing it, there's nothing obviously wrong with it (and they got it two days ago), etc.
That is just how humanity works. Get over it. You aren't going to get your perfect world, and haranguing people to 'be better' is both futile and frankly, self-righteous. You have no pedestal to stand on, your house is just as glassy and fragile as ours. So either do the work and sift through all the bullshit like any good consumer would to find out what is really going on... or go find somewhere that will cater to your need to hear only the good and happy things in some mythical perfect world where nothing ever goes wrong and nobody is ever an asshole. This is not it. It will never be it. And you really just sound like an ass trying to make people behave how you want them to.

RE: Retail "Horror" Stories
Eh... an automated system is pretty much what we're working with now, since home office generates the schedule with the AM's supposedly looking it over for mistakes. And the AM's don't really do that job. At all. Ever. >.>

RE: Stuff Done Right
Hence the Moral I tagged onto the end. I don't think +vote is bad. I just don't think it's any better than any of the other systems out there. It's just as susceptible to abuse as anything else, and in some documented cases, ended up working out worse than some others. In other instances, it might be the better option. Much of it depends on your playerbase, TBH.

RE: RL peeves! >< @$!#
@thebird I feel that pain. I grew up in Iowa, where school didn't let out until nearly the end of June because of snow days that piled up over the winter. I now live in Florida, where the heavy coats come out when it hits 50 degrees. People freak out at the smallest sign of weather. If there's prediction of heavy rains, people lose their minds and assume that it means hurricane or floods and they start doomsday prepping. In Florida. Where there's quite often rain all day. Like today! This is why I won't work in the food industry anymore. People be cray, yo.

RE: Werewolf 2.0 & Nine Ways It Could Be Streamlined
To me, it does seem like you want a more American Werewolf in London game than a WoD Werewolf game. Everything you've taken out or changed is specific to the WoD Werewolf. Everything that's left can be found in any other Werewolf trope anywhere. I do like the part about the Gifts, I've had concepts fall apart because I couldn't take Gifts from specific trees... but in the overall that seems relatively minor compared to the sweeping changes you're suggesting.
Mind, I'm not saying that you're doing anything wrong. Play to suit the game your players want. But with all those changes, you're no longer playing WoD Werewolf, be it Classic, New, or 2.0. You're playing a general Werewolf themed game that could be plucked from nearly any horror movie.

RE: Werewolf 2.0 & Nine Ways It Could Be Streamlined
Frankly? I don't give a hoot about Dalu and Urshul. I also don't care for WoD Werewolf on the whole. Hate the Renown stuff. Pain in the ASS that is. I don't have any issues with Harmony checks, no more than I do Morality or Humanity or Clarity checks. If I do bad things with a character, I expect there to be consequences.
And I think the things you're trying to remove are core precepts to World of Darkness Werewolf, not necessarily werewolf as a whole, but that particular corner of it? Yes.
