@auspice I don't know if you have Meijer where you are, but they carry a specific Hanes sports bra that I have fallen in love with. This thing keeps up with me during 12 hour days, in a warehouse, without poking, stabbing, itching, pinching, binding, or chafing. It even stops that grungy feeling from it being too warm and getting sweaty. I'm already scouring local stores to find extras in my size.

@auspice Belatedly.. spatchcocking is great for when something is too big as a whole but you don't want to lose the pieces.

RE: Social Awkwardness?
Okay, so prefaced with 'I have never been diagnosed with anything other than borderline depression and SAD (and that was at 18)'.
Is it an unusual thing to be... frustrated with people taking too long to get to the point of a conversation? Or a lesson. Or really anything? This has haunted me since my school days when I had to sit in a classroom and listen to a teacher drone on for 20 minutes (plus another 10-15 of answering questions) when really I just wanted to get the damn assignment already so I could start working on it. It drove me nuts then and drives me nuts now. Its a large part of why many movies will never make the cut with me, no matter how amazing or critically acclaimed or fan-loved they are. They're just too damn long-winded. Not long, long-winded. I can sit down and watch an entire series of movies in a single sitting. But they have to have good pacing. I can't stand a movie that drags, that kicks its feet in the dirt and draws out anticipation of anything interesting unto forever.
I love Ben Stein as an actor, but I use him as an example because that's exactly what he does. Drones. That one-note diatribe that never seems to end. This is why I read the transcripts for major political events (like State of the Union). I can read faster than these guys can get their goddamn point across (if they have one). I don't need ten minutes of thanking God, their family, and their third grade teacher. Just tell me what the point is, debate the salient issues, arrive at conclusions, and we can all go home in time to play a round of Overwatch (if that's your thing, I went with Battleborn).
But anyways. Is this a thing? Am I alone in this?
Edited to add: This is my tangent from small talk, because it applies to small talk too. I can only do so much before I'm ready to shake a bitch and scream at them to get to the fucking point already.

RE: Social Awkwardness?
@auspice Yeaaaaaah.. my office is set up like a galley kitchen. Two long 'counters' (my computer is at one of these) with about 8 feet of open floor space between them. There is literally nowhere I can go and NOT have my back to the room. It can get nerve-wracking.

RE: Social Awkwardness?
@auspice I can't help it with my work setup. I have to stop myself from flail-smacking or shrieking at co-workers every day. Its the one thing I truly dislike about my job.
@Wretched Yup. My PC set is IN the corner. You cannot get behind me without being a contortionist or about 6 years old. Bck to the wall, maybe a foot of space between my chair and the wall, wall to the right of me, tower to the left of me. The only way to approach is from the lefthand side directly parallel to me.

RE: Social Awkwardness?
Hovering behind me is my big 'do not do' thing. It legit freaks me out and ramps my anxiety up tenfold if there's someone just... lurking around behind me looking over my shoulder. I had to tell my boss to stop it because it makes me nervous. Not because its him, but just.. A person standing behind me.

@deadculture 1917 is when they started selling them. Not sure when they got so crazy popular... but man, I love these damn things. And they added s'mores cookies somewhere along the way, so I had to get a box of those too...

RE: RL things I love
@auspice Yep, that's kinda the boat I'm in too. One of the managers is in his 50's, the other two are late 30s to early 40's, one guy that works with us is in his late 40's... but I'm older than everyone else... including my direct supervisor, who is 27. So yeah, the ability to hold conversations in THEIR areas of interest has helped. And donuts. I bring in donuts like, once a month. They love it.

RE: RL things I love
@auspice I too work in an atmosphere dominated by men. It can be hard to break through that gender barrier, especially if there's any decent amount of age gap present as well. But yes, that feeling you get when greeted by name or being invited to join them in whatever is happening is pretty damn awesome. So kudos to you for stepping out of the comfort zone and getting there!

RE: Real World Peeves, Disgruntlement, and Irks.
@auspice Its all good! And I know what you mean. I have coworkers that tell me 'you should take a break' or 'tell them you want a break' and I'm over here going 'but if I do that then the work piles up and people will touch my files and.. and... and...' Its ultimately less stressful for me to work 12 hours straight without a break than get up and walk away from the people and paperwork for 15 minutes.
@Ashen-Shugar That... is the best kitten pic EVER. Also, I have already been told I'm too nice to people and that I need to be meaner to the drivers. By one of the warehouse managers. He was weirded out that I didn't swear at all for a whole day.

RE: Real World Peeves, Disgruntlement, and Irks.
@auspice By no means am I holding myself up as what SHOULD be. Its more to the point that for my job, I arrive and start work before ANYONE ELSE (including supervisors and management) and I am often still there after most everyone else has left. I work 10-12 hour shifts every day in an attempt to keep up with the workload. Now, don't get me wrong... the OT is VERY nice. It allows my family to enjoy slightly more than what we otherwise could. But goddamn am I wiped at the end of the day. I take neither breaks nor a lunch hour at my job. I went to the bathroom yesterday... and was paged over the PA because people were piling up and my supervisor freaked that I wasn't at my desk. This is NOT anything anyone anywhere should be doing.
-
RE: Real World Peeves, Disgruntlement, and Irks.
@auspice My direct supervisor even admitted to me the other day that I'm doing a job that would normally be spread out amongst 2-3 people, with a few additional duties tacked on. That every other warehouse in our district? I would be only doing one of the three 'main' things that I'm doing.

@aria SUPER jealous you've gotten to meet Titus. He is hands down my favorite comedian.
