@seraphim73 Well hey hey, that is astounding my friend! I like what I see on that, and I think we can sure as shinola use it. I don't think we'll need to make any of the higher levels as pregens since those should only be for leaders/experienced players anyway. (I think I'll take the advice and start leaders at 10, and keep the cap at 12), but the more easy to use pre built level 3's that allow people to just slap a background onto and make their own the better!

RE: A New Star Wars game? (Legends of The Old Republic (Name pending))
You know what: Screw it, I know it looks bad me wishy washin back and fourth on things but that's what this thread is for, crafting ideas till they come together into something I can work with. And this thread is great for that. Seriously guys thanks for all the help and all the ideas.
I have a feeling it's going to wind up a clusterfrag, BUT I believe so long as I work with the advice given I can easily give an attempt at making a prologue for the place so long as I keep it nice and clear what people are getting into. Let's give the Mandalorian war a shot.
Assuming this ever turns to anything, which there's always the chance things fall apart but I'd like to be optimistic.

Here's my quick pitch: Set the game during the expansion period, with exploration and settlement of new worlds, discovering alien civilizations. Way before the Jedi Civil war, back when Jedi had plug ins for their light sabres, and Coruscant had trouble controlling its colonies.
Oh, and in another thread @ZombieGenesis mentioned having a savage worlds CG up and running.
I've got a feeling that'd be hard to run, and keep players for. Also probably really difficult to set up in the first place as far as costs for items and the like go. Was there ever a campaign book for the expansion period?

@mr-johnson Disappointed, but totally understood. Still looking forward to the game.
Same.
Tho I still want mandos.Mandalorians are not going anywhere they are still going to be around in the game. I only want to do right by the playerbase and avoid putting people into railroaded situations. You'll still be able to app Mandalorians. And who knows maybe if I get a group of people together who are willing to go in with the understanding that the scene will have a fixed outcome I'll still run a single scene or even a small collection of scenes set during the Mandalorian war, so people can still get that fix. If I do go that route I just want people heading in to realize: You can change a lot about it, but in the end Malachor V gets destroyed, bringing an end to the war.

RE: A New Star Wars game? (Legends of The Old Republic (Name pending))
So after lengthy discussion and looking through comments both here and in pages I think I'm going to scrap the idea of starting at the end of the mandalorian war. As cool a scene as I think it would be the very valid point was brought up a few times in pages and discussion with potential staffers that running an event where Malachor V gets destroyed at the end is just a bit too much railroading. I'd be kind of hypocritical to run the scene after complaining about a scene elsemu having an outcome the players couldn't affect, so I think it's best to scrap that idea even if I think it's cool for the betterment of the player base. Just use the Mandalorian wars as history and focus on the meat and potatoes: The Jedi Civil War.

RE: Game Restarts
But guys you're all forgetting Brave New World did like 8 restarts and that turned out great!

RE: A New Star Wars game? (Legends of The Old Republic (Name pending))
Oh I wasn't going to do it on the regular it was going to be a one time thing. Start with your mando v jedi/repub and transition to the meat and potatoes main focus of the game the Jedi Civil War, since everyone loves a good Jedi and Sith fight and I figure they'll probably wind up the majority of the playerbase anyway.

RE: Real World Peeves, Disgruntlement, and Irks.
When you get yelled at because "Someone" was seen "Somewhere" by "Someone" sleeping on the job, and therefore the blame automatically falls on you instead of anyone else despite the fact you spend most your time locked up in an office watching security monitors. x.x

RE: RL Anger
@tinuviel Definitely not. Putting that shit off can get some really bad results.

RE: RL Anger
@tinuviel Oh fuck that noise man. Those things fucking HURT like hell. And they're so damn expensive.

I've always been a fan, at least in theory, of that kind of played-prologue sort of thing. I would definitely say it's better off keeping it strictly that, than trying to run X months of the game as one thing and then time-skip and switch things up.
As much as people say they like character growth, they also hate change. Particularly the sort that upsets their status quo of existing RP circles, relationships, accomplishments, positions, and so on.
I totally get that, it would suck to get all the work done on this place get everything together then lose my playerbase because we did a time-skip after people got settled into Mandalorian War life. Probably for the best if I do just go ahead and keep it to maybe one or two events as a prequel to launch the game then keep the focus on the Jedi Civil War.
-
RE: A New Star Wars game? (Legends of The Old Republic (Name pending))
@seraphim73 I'd much rather the focus be on the Jedi Civil war with the Mandalorian war more a prequel of sorts we play through part of.
I am certainly NOT, if we go with starting near the end of the Mandalorian wars, going with the line of "Every Jedi who worked with Revan became Sith" because I never personally liked the idea of all inclusive statements like every when it comes to plot concepts. Yes the MAJORITY of Revanchists, and those who fought in the war will wind up becoming the foundation of the Sith faction. However Player characters are not the majority of characters in the verse so they'll be free to chose who they wind up siding with: Jedi, or Sith. Just because you fight in a war doesn't mean you're going to instantly turn Sith. (I'm fully aware there are more lore reasons behind why they all turned, and I know what said reasons are. That doesn't make them any less silly.)

@tinuviel said in A New Star Wars game? (Legends of The Old Republic (Name pending)):
Well, if it's the end of the War, Revan's splinter group would already have formed and been fighting the whole time. BUT they'd be the kinds of Jedi most people would want to play, rather than those taking a back seat to it all.
If that's a problem I also wouldn't see a problem with playing through the whole of the Mandalorian war, and allowing people to experience it in say 1 second OOC=4 seconds IC so we go through it at a decent clip but still let people play the mando vs Jedi angle for a while before we do the time skip then have Sith vs Jedi for the main brunt of the game?
Again these are all just ideas, I'm trying to throw thoughts at the wall and see what grabs people.

RE: A New Star Wars game? (Legends of The Old Republic (Name pending))
Well I was thinking if we go end of the Mandalorian war we'd start with Independent Mandalorian, and Jedi/republic for our three factions, then after the time jump switch over to Sith, Jedi, Independent.

@tinuviel That's the plan anyway. Still open to changing that depending on the feedback.

@tinuviel I tip my hat to you good sir.

RE: A New Star Wars game? (Legends of The Old Republic (Name pending))
@tinuviel Could be both, after all very few actual mandalorians are mandalorians. :L

@apos I'm a very strong proponent of "Treat others the way you want to be treated" even if I'm not always great at it. I'd like to think at least I can be fair. My only worry is being the only staffer.

RE: A New Star Wars game? (Legends of The Old Republic (Name pending))
@three-eyed-crow Well thank you, that means a lot. I honestly wasn't even to get this far. It was mostly on a whim I even started on this project. Let's see if I can make diamonds out of... well not coal... I guess we're making diamonds out of less shiny diamonds. Making Diamonds out of opals? I don't know the metaphor falls apart. It sounded much better in my head!

RE: A New Star Wars game? (Legends of The Old Republic (Name pending))
Good news everyone! The game is now running without you know falling apart into a burning pile of slag and work can begin proper on turning this place into the KoTOR game of my dreams. Now if only I knew where to begin.
