@seraphim73 Fair enough I haven't been able to dig into the code yet to find out as apparently there's some issues getting it to launch properly, but hopefully that will not be an issue for long and I'll be able to get to work redescing

RE: A New Star Wars game? (Legends of The Old Republic (Name pending))
@blondebot As much as I'd love to take that on board and will keep it in mind when I get coders for the most part at the moment I need to work with what I have and will just be keeping to redescing existing game systems for the most part. Though I would love to add a +meetme code like on superhero games, or a system where you can just pick the room from a list of all the rooms you want to instantly go to. I'm not a super fan of requireing space travel, but I like having it an option no one is forced to use. (Unless they want to do trading and make money... then you gotta use slow travel baby.)

@tempest said in A New Star Wars game? (Legends of The Old Republic (Name pending)):
@haven said in A New Star Wars game? (Legends of The Old Republic (Name pending)):
There is also nothing saying that a baseline of TOR with a focus on the Mandalorians could not involve very original plots and brand new heroes/villains.
That's why we RP, right? To create stuff?
No. Wrong.
We RP to TS.
Hell yeah Tempest, THAT'S WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT. As a 5 foot tall 18 yearold jedi master with one blue eye and one green eye who has bright pink hair and a lightsabre that changes color with her mood? I can completely get behind you on that!

@haven said in A New Star Wars game? (Legends of The Old Republic (Name pending)):
I am going to say that since @Mr-Johnson began brainstorming about a new Star Wars game on a whim just 24 hours ago there is still some room for refining the theme, mechanics, and overarching plots.
Pretty much. Nothing's really set in stone except the fact FC's are going to be NPC's only. TS is consent only and should only ever be done in private RP rooms off the main grid, and I plan on setting it SOMEWHERE during the old republic era. I kind of only even wanted to do the end of the Mandalorian war because I've gotten so many different people paging me and being really really interested in playing Mandalorians so I figured it was a good way to let people get their Mandalorian fix their jedi fix and sith fix.
As to why I want to even do a game set in the TOR age? Well it's not to avoid big names or even really to avoid problems I like Clone Wars and original trilogy just fine and admit it'd be a more popular star wars setting. It's mostly just because: I really like playing KoTOR 1 and 2, and might as well do something in a setting I'm passionate about rather then a setting I like.

@mercutio The thing is, there's a big part of me that wants to focus on the people who did have a reason to be a part of the Mandalorian war, make the game more focused by requiring characters to have some connection to the war. I think by having everyone having picked a side one way or another or just plain being connected to it you've got some built in plot hooks right off the bat. But that's just me.

Really happy with the amount of interest you guys are showing and I'm making sure to read through every post on this thread even if I don't respond to them right away. This thread is providing exactly what I needed to get things going: Ideas. I'm glad plenty of people have them and are willing to share!

RE: A New Star Wars game? (Legends of The Old Republic (Name pending))
@tempest That'd certainly work, I'll look into it. Now with those I'm not entirely sure if it's broken by default or broken by houserules/ignoring the rules as written and limitations. I find most the glaring issues people have with systems like this tend to be the result of house rules. Not sure, but I will certainly look into it.

@kanye-qwest Most the work's done, all I gotta do is redesc and restat from what I understand. There's more work that'll be done down the line once I get a coder but most of it I shouldn't have much problem with getting playable.

RE: MU Things I Love
When you make a joke about running a game and set some impossible requirement before you'll run it then someone goes above and beyond the call of duty to do everything they can to make that happen and it just completely blows you away how awesome some people can be.

RE: A New Star Wars game? (Legends of The Old Republic (Name pending))
@roz No you're probably not, I mostly just wanted to start with the end of the Mandalorian war to start us off with a bang. Give a nice fun bit of rp fodder to get us started.

RE: A New Star Wars game? (Legends of The Old Republic (Name pending))
There's some great suggestions just to cover a few things in no particular order:
I've no intention of limiting prestige classes.
Kits would be a great idea if I knew even the most basics of code, maybe that's something we can do down the line? The closest I can do is allow people to use builds from the books like as an example: Allowing people to play clonetroopers on a clone wars game with the stats of a clone trooper. You know just allowing people to use the precons from the books if they so want.
I'm still thinking we start end of the Mandalorian wars beginning of the Jedi Civil war. Then over time perhaps the Mandalorian faction would be phased out in place of the sith faction? The idea would be that once the Mandalorian wars are over they'd be a bit more of a non faction since Reven's actions aren't exactly going to be leaving much of them left. What I'm probably going to do to facilitate this is have the testing phase set RIGHT at the tale end of the Mandalorian wars, and let people play there till we move out of early testing and whatnot, then do a 1 year later skip. Unless people really want to play through that 1 year gap which hey cool I can work with it.
Honestly for the level thing. I really want to have people able to start as leaders if they show they're willing to put in the extra effort and put up with the BS. The majority of players SHOULD start with level 3 characters. What I might do is put in a restriction that you have to play for x weeks/months with y amounts of activity during that stage before you qualify to apply for a level 8 character that would still have some fairly strict requirements on what it takes to get one. Because I still want people to be able to come in battle hardened or disenfranchised old soldiers or Jedi Knights, but I want the majority of people to be lower level.
That's not just so my friends can play those things either (Mostly because I have very few friends in the mushing community, like 3 who don't exclusively play WoD, the bastards. (Hi guys! I know you're lurkin out there. :3)) It's more so people can still run those concepts.
When in doubt I'd rather raise standards of application then restrict or ban outright.

RE: A New Star Wars game? (Legends of The Old Republic (Name pending))
@seraphim73 I was thinking of going 4 groups and allowing people to have one alt in each group with one alt that is their 'main' being at level 8. I intend on enforcing the stricter requirements on people apping 8, but you know how intentions go when the tires hit the road. The 4 factions I was looking at are Sith, Jedi, Mandalorians, and Indies. Not to spread things too thin but just to give some variety. So the Jedi are at war with the Mando, and the Sith, the Sith at war with the Jedi and Mano, and the Mando at war with the Jedi and Sith. Just as an idea. Again most of what this thread is for is testing out ideas and getting feedback while I work on the game.

RE: A New Star Wars game? (Legends of The Old Republic (Name pending))
@Seraphim73 Honestly I was thinking of allowing people to have 4 alts but only ONE can start at 8 and the rest at 3 giving people the chance to level as they go if they want, and put the cap at 12, with that level 8 character being restricted and requiring a more intensive app to actually get, and specifically being something for people who are faction heads or jedi knights or high ranking sith. So most the characters are on the level of 3, and 8's are a rarity. Other then that I really appreciate the advice and will take it to heart.

A New Star Wars game? (Legends of The Old Republic (Name pending))
Alright, building this thread so it doesn't spam the shout in the dark thread.
Let's get a few things out of the way right up front:
I've got zero coding experience, so don't expect miracles here.
Just because I'm working on this doesn't mean the Superhero mush I'm building is no longer getting worked on, all it means is there's not much work for me to do, and it's mostly on my coders shoulders right now.
I don't have much experience running Mush's so don't expect the moon from me.
I'll work as fast as I can reasonably while still keeping a respectable level of quality, but it might take some time to get properly running.
We're using the SAGA system. If you don't like that, well I'm sorry this isn't the game for you, the system being used was decided by the gracious donation of a nearly complete system. So moving on let's talk ideas here. So far the only real things I know for sure are:
I'm not going to be limiting how many Sith and Jedi we have, I want people to be able to have fun.
We're likely going to be set right smack dab in the last days of the Mandalorian war, and one of the first events is going to be the end of said war.
Players will also be able to apply Mandalorians. I think it'll make things entertaining.
Players will NOT be allowed to play canon characters. Canon characters are NPC's that can be used inside of scenes, but can not be used as player characters.
If a player proves to me their willing to take an active part in running stories for the benefit of the game and are willing to have a proactive position in a faction I will have no problem with players leading factions.
We're going to be a partial consent based game. You will be able to die, but likely not unless it's part of an event specifically labled as one that can result in the death of characters.
TS will always only be allowed with consent and must be kept to private rooms off of the main grid. It doesn't mater what the game rules say you can't force anyone to TS with you no mater how powerful in the force you are, or how seductive you are.
We're going to attempt to stick with the canon to start with while allowing players to effect the world around them, so things might diverge from Legends as we move forward depending on what the player-base decide.
We're NOT going to be charging people to use the fast travel system or have a limit on how often it can use. I want RP to come first.Edit: No, we will not be restricting Grey Jedi either. We want people to have fun and create interesting roleplay scenarios. If people abuse my kindness in allowing so much it'll get restricted, but only if, and as people abuse it.

I think I'll make a new thread for further discussion o my personal pet project.

RE: Star Wars?
Well I've just been graciously donated an entire code base for the game, so looks like Saga edition is what's going to be used. I won't lie the code is a bit of a mess and will likely need some hefty work from a coder down the line but for the moment? I can work with it, looks like I've got a project to work on. Anyone who wants to join in just email me at Dayshark115 at gmail and I'd be happy to welcome you along for the ride.

RE: Star Wars?
I'll be honest the less code work I need to personally do the more chance this will actually happen. I'm fine using d6 I suppose I just don't know jack didly squat about it. Don't know the system from Adam in the slightest. I'll much more likely just look around for what requires the least possible amount of retooling and then just go from there because I don't want to have TWO projects I'm stuck setting round waiting on coders to launch.
Also @faraday u and your work, also love pushin buttons by misusing your script.

RE: Star Wars?
@auspice I have the coding expertise of a toddler. What I can do is read a cheatsheet and do loads of mindnumming busywork without losing my mind. I'm great at transfering stuff descing rooms building grids and the like. :"p
