The thing I miss most to be honest.

That's limited in California by good ol' Prop 13, which I'm pretty sure most Californians hold more sacred than the actual U.S. Constitution.

@macha Here where I live, the vacancy rate for rentals (this includes single family homes as well, not just apartments) is 31%. Rather than lower rents, they just raise the cost for existing tenants. It makes no sense whatsoever.
After living in Santa Barbara for a while, I'm leaning towards implementing rather stringent vacancy taxes/fines on both residential and commercial properties. If someone is not living in a residence or a business is not operating in a commercial space for at least 8 months out of the year, the property owner is fined at double the current market rate of the space with half of the fine going to the general fund and the other half divvied up amongst homeless shelters in the area.

My Boyfriend loves this man so much, and I don't know why.
Because he is hilarious and brilliant in that dopey funny way. It's genius doing a "Can I make sausage out of it" channel. His personality and sense of humor is great. The material is gross humor, but not in the disgusting variety. I can eat something while watching him make some of his monstrosities.
I don't know. It's just good, clean fun.
I have come across the hilarity that is Ordinary Sausage, and I must share it with the world. Discover the joy that is watching a man who looks like Nintendo's Mario and sounds like Peter Griffin from Family Guy make sausage from random foodstuffs, then eat them. I find Spam Sausage to be a good intro.

There. I made a topic for you.
Have you considered sealing him in cellar behind a brick wall Cask of Amontillado style?
I'm going back to enjoying my Friday night by continuing to get hammered.

Paradox clearly cares about the direction of the IP, lol.
It'll be fine. Give them ten years and as many DLCs and it'll be amazing.

I mean, I get that in a sort-of general principle way? But like -- I'm not sure that that's a great idea either. That would be like saying 'an American' gets to decide whether Squidbillies is a fantasy comedy based on specific tropes/stereotypes or a horrible slander against Appalachian persons.
I mean, there is something to be said about how lower-income white people are the last acceptable target of mockery, and one would hope that someone writing about Appalachian characters would have more knowledge or experience of their subject to draw on than having heard jokes about toothless cousin-fuckers.
As a proud Appalachian who is related to the McCoys of the Hatfields and McCoys, I take offense at the stereotype that we are toothless and can proudly state that I have all of my teeth aside from my wisdom teeth.
I don't think Arkandel is evil, and I find I side with him in any discussion he partakes in more often than I don't side with him. But, come on, just going to UEG's videos section and looking at the first 20 videos shows such gems as The Fall of Society, You Have Been Convicted of Wrongthink, The SJW Mindset Explained, and Everything is GamerGate. A cursory check of the content should tell you "This guy is a tool."
@arkandel said in Sensitivity in gaming:
What do you think?
I think you just linked me a video from fucking Upper Echelon Gaming, who is an annoying prat that is constantly going on about how SJWs are ruining video games.
Is Big Purple (rpg.net) a bunch of gold medalists at the Woke Olympics with their heads stuck so far up their own asses that the lack of oxygen is clearly what is killing their brain cells? Yes. Upper Echelon, though, is not the person you want making that argument.
To your actual question (sorry, I was just a bit flabbergasted that someone actually linked to UEG), be upfront and clear about the themes of your game and it's base background lore. As long as you're clear on those fronts, it's on the player to do their research before joining a game. You can't get angry at Shang because some Karen decided to join without doing the research and gets bent out of sorts at the first PC she comes across being Dicktopus, the Titillating Testicularly Tentacled Treasure.
I find Carhartt jeans are among the best for consistency and long life. I can barely get a year out of a pair of Levi's anymore, because of how poorly made they are.
The geek gives it a 7.3. My personal cut-off for trying a game I know little about is nothing below 7.2 with the rare exception for things that are right in my wheelhouse, and that has worked well for me and a few of my friends who have also adopted the 7.2 rule.
Here I went and offered my wonderful (read insane) ideas for steampunk-y airships in fantasy ocean island world and I don't get an invitation?
Well, fine! I'll go make my own game...
Actually, that probably describes a lot of games already.
True, but that would require writing and reading cultural backgrounds. And people don't even bother reading the rule book for the RPG system they're playing these days.
Who gave you permission to make a new post, while I was editing my post?
To add to my thoughts, I've been working out my ideas for a fantasy world dotted only with islands and archipelagos with the largest islands being like Great Britain sized and civilization dominated by elves whose culture is a rip-off of the Monarchies of Mau blended with a little bit of cyberpunk mega-corporations. I keep wavering on whether I want to do a Renaissance theme with some Age of Sail ships or go Victorian/Georgian-ish steampunk ships. I'm hoping to do fantasy DUNE and have the ships scratch that space truckin' itch too, but, as conversations on here have led me to believe, tinkering with the ship tech is a required part of the experience for space truckin' so Age of Sail probably wouldn't work for that.
Regarding your post, true. I'm one of the weirdos who avoids existing IPs and actively seeks out unique IPs for MU*s.
Or just go the Avatar route and set the location on a fictional planet with fictional peoples and places. You can have people of different races, but without the issue of cultural appropriation by using a specific historical ethnicity or country.
What about Meiji Japan but with steampunk Lord & Ladies? It was an up-and-coming power, eager to prove itself; it was industrializing rapidly; and they altered the system of nobility to resemble something more like Britain and Germany, so you had somewhat recognizable styles of nobility. Then again, you're expecting players to be able to play steampunk Meiji Japan as something other than a caricature, and that's a tall order. Maybe stick with European states.

Must disagree. As much as I love dogs, that makes for a very unprofessional work environment.
I will echo that sentiment. My workplace is a bring your dog to work office. While I love dogs, at work, they're distracting and it's rude to anyone who happens to be allergic.
