RE: If you work hard, son, maybe someday you'll RP
The solution is easy then. Buffy the Supernatural X-Com-Files: Men in Black and Delta Green. You got your group of government agents/militia demon hunters/vigiliante researchers/whatever that are played by the PCs in <insert metropolis big enough for interesting things to happen here> and aside from their BaRP and small cases in said metropolis, they head out on missions to other parts of the country/world to investigate and shoot demons/ghost/witches/Cthulhu. The PC group can even have fae/aliens/demons/angels/elves/vampires that have decided to work for the "good guys" so you let people have their exotic player races.

Now... is this proposed game any good? Probably not.
Good is relative. Billions and billions served...

What can I, as a new member of a MU*, do to demonstrate interest in wanting to "fit in" and play with the rest of the group? Because it's getting to the point where I think I might be better at running MU*s than playing them (thanks to my DMing experience in TTRPGs with friends). Should I just do that instead?
I mean, if you're actually that good at running stuff, and you don't mind the monetary and time outlay (i.e. having no life) of running a server, absolutely! More games are more better!
As for getting involved in RP in Arx, are you having trouble at finding anything, because that's a bit hard to believe? I've had a large BarP scene every night this week that resulted from a bunch of people out on the public grid just showing up. If it's the deeper story that you're looking for, what families and organizations are you in?

Isn't Spirit Lake closed to new players to limit the population?
Would Delta Green or some other 'you're a bunch of investigators/supernatural hunters a la XCom, the Buffy Gang, the Winchester Brothers, etc' setting match the Urban Fantasy low to mid powered humans vs. supernatural creatures? Have all the players be part of the group, focused on a hub area like a headquarters city, then have GMed/PRPed mission out elsewhere where they figure out where the crop circles are really coming from.
What if you did it in a low-magic fantasy setting, say like Mouse Guard only with humans? Or is the modern setting a central part of the appeal?

What do you mean now want to fight about? I don't know what thread you've been reading but in the thread I've been reading AB has only talked about the actual ban in one post and everything else has been them attempting to explain themselves with little success.
I think @Derp was referring to that one post, because it came across as a bit 'I want to fight about this.'
From a strategical perspective, complaining about your ban after it happens is never going to help you, regardless if you agree or not they presumably banned you for a reason and that reason will be fresh on their minds. If you want to play on that particular game your best bet is to wait a few months and ask for a second chance.
I would make clear that @A-B is in no way entitled to an appeal or a reconsideration, and, if they do reach back out to Spirit Lake's staff in a few months, they should expect a 'No' reply and, if they are unable to accept a 'No' reply, they should not reach out.

RE: Tips for not wearing out your welcome
Bingo.
We play these games to avoid real life drama. Pretend drama is definitely welcome. Though, sometimes people don't even want that. Right now, you come across as bringing a lot of real life drama to any game you would join, which is the thing people are trying to avoid. Laboriously trying to mechanically mimic a thoroughly normal and average person is what you should do here and when not in character.

Incidentally, to everyone else - any advice on locating one of these mythical "other more suitable MUs"? In a separate thread probably.
On a more serious and helpful note, you're not doing yourself any favors by posting this:

Hey, it was not my idea to contact you through this site. I was advised to do that by somebody else, who I didn't mention as I didn't know if they'd like that. I mean I'm sorry if it gave you a fright, but it was not my idea. (I'd never even heard of this site before. I was going to send a PM via the AresMUSH forum, but I couldn't register owing to a technical glitch.)
As for my wittering in the game, seriously I was barely in my right mind at the time, you can't go by that. (I am NOT going to go into what was going on, not here, just want to say that I don't mean I was high, as it sounds rather like that!)
I do think (and I want to say this in front of everybody) that before banning somebody without warning, it would be only decent to actually tell them that you want them to stop rabbiting on and see if that does it. (Especially somebody who has already told you that they have Asperger's syndrome, and therefore a tin ear for guessing what somebody is not saying just from the tone of their wording.)
Yes, I am angry.
Accept the ban. Publicly arguing whether or not a ban was justified does not make you look good, unless you have some very compelling evidence of egregious behavior on the part of staff. It certainly does not present you as someone others would want to introduce to the place where they play.

Sword Art Online with more moe and less 'why the Hell haven't they shut this game down already?"
Because the players were neurologically connected to the servers and shutting it down or disconnecting them before the game was beaten would kill them. Also SAO was pretty terrible; however, this sounds kind of adorable.
EDIT: Man, that would be a hellish game to start having connection issues while playing. The Aussie players of SAO were fucked.

RE: Focus in Competitive RvR
@Grayson Right. The assumption was that there would be a "Citadel" or "Babylon 5" that is the central grid for a MU* where everyone can meet up and argue or make peace. I was more curious if there is a style of competitive RvR that people prefer. Do people prefer House Lannister fighting House Stark for the throne of Westeros or the Centauri bombing and enslaving the Narns?

Focus in Competitive RvR
I frequently ponder on MU* server ideas, even though I don't have the time or energy to actually run a MU*, and one of the issues I have recently been banging my head against has to do with RvR design. For those of you who are unfamiliar, RvR stands for Realm vs. Realm, coming from Dark Ages of Camelot, where factions compete with one another. I've come to see that RvR can be divided into two distinct styles that I've called Politics and Culture, because of where the tension between them lies.
In Politics, factions tend to have the same culture, mostly agree on rules of decorum and how society should be run, etc. The fighting is basically about who gets to be in charge. House Doe and House Smith don't like each other, because they've fought a few wars against one another over the centuries and House Doe currently holds sway in the Senate which threatens House Smith's future prospects. Or to use a cyberpunk example, Doe Inc. and Smith Holdings don't like each other because they are both competing for control of the dilithium market. In this style the
In Culture, factions compete on a more fundamental level - difference in philosophy, religion, culture, etc. The Doe Republic is a military dictatorship that focuses on order and discipline, and the Smith Tribes are a bunch of loosely confederated, pacifist hippies. There is a basic disagreement on how they view society functioning.
My issue is that I do not believe a MU* can have a population that is big enough or, more importantly, have enough effective staffing to engage in both. Your server either has to focus on the internal politics of Rome during the Punic Wars with PCs striving to gain the upper hand against the each other in Rome while also cooperating with them to keep NPC Carthage from destroying them, or focus on Rome vs. Carthage with the internal politics of both being minimized so the competition and battles between the two PC cultures can take center stage.
So which style of RvR do people prefer more - scheming and politicking in order to gain a few more seats in the Republic Senate or fighting in the streets because the industrialist Doe Dwarves are purging the land of the tree-hugging Smith Elves?

RE: Wolfenstein MUSH?
I'm not exactly sure that the Wolfenstein setting/game is conducive to being a MU*. It's basically "Here is an excessive amount of firepower and ammo. Over there are a bunch of Nazis. Have fun!" There isn't much there to explore. It'd be like making a Doom MU*.
About the only way to do it would be to have a new person get to be the hero every night and everyone else is a Nazi roleplaying another day in the Reich. The hero then makes their way through all the Nazi characters, RPing out how they filled each of the Nazis with enough bullets that they technically died of lead poisoning before bleeding out. I guess it would present a unique challenge for the player of the hero to write new ways of killing Nazis without getting bored after the 15th Nazi.

RE: Interest in Cyberpunk MU*?
Conservatism vs. Progressivism can be argued to be a subset of the Romanticism vs. Enlightenment conflict.
Chocobos vs. Mad Max is a much more compelling dialectic, though, I must agree.
