@wizz That and Dresden Files are both classic "We have no idea what we're doing but we're gonna fucking try anyway!" buffoonery.

RE: Good TV
Just read this, and feel slight excitement.
Couldn't be worse than their last attempt at WoD television. Though tbf, I liked it, cheesy though it was. We'll see!

RE: Good TV
I don't know if this qualifies as 'TV' but... why not....
I absolutely adore Emmymade(InJapan). I mostly watch her videos on Facebook, and they're one of the best things on my feed. Some of the stuff she makes is amazing, some is terrifying, but it's almost always fun.

RE: Good TV
I didn't love The Falcon and the Winter Soldier's finale. It wasn't bad, but it was less 'show, don't tell' and more 'give speeches'.
Let's see where they go with it. Apparently there are follow-up movies in the making.
I was more bothered by how chummy Bucky was being with Walker at the end. I liked the Power Broker and Madam Hydra twists they threw in there though and can't wait to see how those manifest in future shows.
I do agree that it felt like a tiny bit rushed and a lot was crammed into the final episode. It could have gone for 1-2 more maybe.

@solstice Oh I generally enjoy anime and animation, but Horimiya on the surface looked like a CW show aimed at highschoolers. Something about it though just resonated and I found it to be absolutely friggen adorable and fun and I was cheering for a Hori/Miya relationship from minute one. It's super kawaii.

RE: Health and Wealth and GrownUp Stuff
@aria Yeah, I've got residual pain from whiplash from being rear-ended, and this thing has been a dream. Here's the exact model I got, if you're interested. at 35.99 it's -very- worth it.

RE: Good TV
Not my normal thing, but watching Horimiya on Hulu with my wife, and it's absolutely adorable and funny.

RE: Health and Wealth and GrownUp Stuff
I got a home TENS unit and it's a dream. Cost me all of 35 bucks, and it's like a massager on demand. I f'n love it.

Just finished Falcon & Winter Soldier. Really great IMO. Alas, time to cancel Disney+ until June 11th.

I began playing FFXIV again with a friend and it's been pretty great.
I should sit down and actually play this game at some point.
Never been a better time. The first 60 levels are free to play.

"The term "Michelin Star" is a hallmark of fine dining quality with restaurants around the world proudly promoting their Michelin Star status."
https://www.tripsavvy.com/about-michelin-stars-1329159
"Restaurants covet these stars because the vast majority of restaurants receive no stars at all. For example, the Michelin Guide to Chicago 2014 includes almost 500 restaurants. Only one restaurant received three stars, four restaurants received two stars, and 20 restaurants received one star."
So in Chicago, out of their almost 500 restaurants, only 25 received stars at all. That means only about 5% of restaurants in Chicago have any stars.
I worked in restaurants for over 10 years, and none of them were Michelin star restaurants, and nobody in those restaurants cared or thought about Michelin stars. Hell, if I've ever been to a restaurant with Michelin stars, I didn't know it.
I think you're vastly overestimating the important of Michelin stars to the average restaurant, and saying "the only stars that count for everyone are Michelin stars" is a personal preference for you, not an objective fact. The NYT uses a 4 star rating system. Seattle Times uses a star system. I don't think claiming "We're a 5 star restaurant" is misleading, or meant to be misleading. If they don't specifically say, "We've got X# of Michelin stars" then they're talking about something else.

Ugh, I have a mild peeve today.
In the culinary world, there are only one set of 'stars' that actually count for everyone. Michelin stars. And the maximum number awarded is three.
So if you say your restaurant has five stars, you're being intentionally disingenuous. It may even be true, that some magazine or tabloid awarded your restaurant that many stars in a review - but you know perfectly well what a star-rated restaurant means. Stop that.
I've always been under the impression that it's fine dining restaurants that Michelin focuses on. So while La Snoot might be all over their second Michelin Star, Joe's Diner getting 5 stars on Yelp is about as good as it's going to get.

Then I have been nine years old for a very, very long time.

Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck anti-vaxxers. My son is in high school. FOUR kids in his grade got measles last year. I know it doesn't seem like a huge number... but goddamn. All it takes is one. Just one unvaccinated kid to start an epidemic. Thankfully we're in an excellent school system and the nurse caught all four of them right away, sent them home immediately with notes, had talks with their parents, then sent out an email that afternoon to every parent alerting them of the small outbreak and what to watch for, just in case.
At least that one was contained at the school. We've got 19 confirmed cases out here, and some of the infected were at an airport, a basketball game, an IKEA, and other high traffic areas.
PDX airport is the worst. That airport has heavy -international- traffic. Some idiots could be sending measles to anywhere in the f'n world about now.

RE: I know it's an old topic but to this day....
@ganymede Oh I know. I just put them in equal categories as far as being "people who don't know their ass from a hole in the wall." So far, flat earthers are mostly harmless? I guess? But yes, I think my post demonstrated that I'm fully aware at how fucking dangerous those moron anti-vaxxers are.
-
RE: I know it's an old topic but to this day....
I can't help but wonder how many of these flafers are just giant f'n trolls that are messing with the rest of us, but secretly go home and laugh and say, "but yeah, no, then I got them to believe I think the world is flat, and a couple of them even agreed, trololol".
@magee101 I also tend to put flat earthers in the same category as anti-vaccers, frankly, which has me ESPECIALLY f'n pissed lately, as we've actually got a measles outbreak very very very near where I live. In fact, I may have visited some of the places where contagious people also went. Thankfully I'm immunized, and don't plan on being around at risk folks any time soon, but it's still fury inducing.

This gets so much f'n respect from me for PayPal: https://www.paypal.com/us/webapps/mpp/paypal-helps
On an individual scale, it's not a massive gesture, but big picture it really is, and there's a lot of people who it could potentially help a great deal. So long as they can make that minimum payment next month. =/
