@bobotron Looks good! I'm a bit envious that your guy can cook, while the best mine can do is bring me takeout. And not even good takeout. Le sigh.

RE: Comfort Food...
Tonight's comfort food: Split pea soup made with a smoked turkey wing instead of the usual smoked pork product. It turned out great!

Since some people mentioned learning / getting better with Python, Humble Bundle has a Python Bundle.
Not a coder so no idea how good a deal it is for 24 ebooks and a 3 month licence for something for $15 what with the holidays just over and wallets hurting, but there you go!
Just bought this. Thanks for the heads up!

Grilled cheese and tomato soup.
Shit, I'm going out to do this right now.
That /does/ sound good, and would really hit the spot in this 24F weather.

I burnt my hand on my Instant Pot the first time I used it. Their booklet is... not... the most helpful. I totally needed videos. It took a couple uses / recipes before things 'clicked' for me.
The first thing I made came out good! But it was stressful and frustrating and led to a burn.
I have the Express Cooker, which is Crock Pot's version of the Instant Pot. Their booklet is equally useless, I had to go on the web to find any useful information. I've had it for 2 months and have used it only once. I'm still trying to work up the nerve to try the pressure cooker feature

(I wonder if I could make puppy eyes at the people I know at Green Ronin to be able to get playtest copies of that...........)
Green Ronin is very anti-piracy, I know that; there was a very long time where they refused to sell anything as a PDF. How do they feel about Mu*s?
I will get back to you on this.
OK, official word is:
Green Ronin only has permissions to make the game itself. And they would be OK so long as it didn't violate Green Ronin 'property,' but it's an ask that we get permission from the owner of the IP to run the game.
...so it's basically in that same gray area as every other game ever.
More to share:
"The Expanse RPG will be like Dragon Age, using a variation of the Modern AGE rules. Which also doesn't exist yet"If that's the case, I'm not going to bother with it. I'll stick to D20.

@apos said in A directory of MU*'s that's actually good:
I registered with a bunch of sites, but since the listing never showed up and I never heard anything back, I assumed it didn't work or whatever.
All you need is a listing on The Mudconnector. I know they had some issues a while ago with new listings not being posted but that's been fixed.

RE: A directory of MU*'s that's actually good
@griatch PennMUSH supports MSSP 'out of the box'. Mudstats.com will use MSSP if it's available on the game. The Mudconnector, however, does not.

Who wants to learn Python with me and build an awesome space system in Evennia? I've had Ideas for a couple years now.
Way ahead of ya there, been working on my Expanse game for a while now Will be happy to help out any way I can. Just ask.
I want Expanse game. Means I don't need to make one.
It's going to be a while still because it's just me doing all of the work myself. I technically have a friend helping out but so far he hasn't done much of anything but idle and chat >.< Space is functional but still basic. Chargen (I'm using D20 Future, which will hopefully be compatible with the official Expanse RPG that Green Ronin will be releasing later this year) is coming along. Boards and Mail are in. Not much else is, though.

RE: A directory of MU*'s that's actually good
I prefer mudstats.com but unfortunately they only seem to update once or twice a year. The Mudconnector is still the best place to advertise your game, in spite of all the outdated links to games that are long gone.

On the other hand, how many players do you want?
Infinite, ideally. That doesn't mean I want to be on a game with infinity players, but more roleplayers means more places to roleplay means more ways to do it means more themes and new angles and many modifications to old angles.
It's better than the alternative of the hobby being "niche," which means that you've got very limited options. Almost all active MU*'s today are either World of Darkness or some kind of capeshit, and I'm interested in neither lately. I'd love to see historical RP settings. I'd love to see more weird concept ones, like where they, instead of changing the world, change the structure of the RP; if you want to know what I mean by different structures, compare a tabletop RPG where your ST/GM/DM is physically present for all matters vs a MU* where they act more as moderators in many regards and stay out of the regular RP. There's a lot in RP to do that hasn't been hashed out yet, and that's in no small part because of how "niche" the hobby is.
People are getting personally offended by the voicing of opinions, so it seems much less a technical discussion than it is a preference discussion.
This is as much if not more a preference discussion than anything. It is my personal preference that we continue to use MU*'s.
Fortunately there's plenty of room in the hobby for both extremes to coexist. People should make the game they want, with the features they want, and let people who want something different, have what they want, too.

That's exactly what platforms like Ares and Evennia are working on. Evennia is still young. Ares isn't even done yet.
Evennia has been around for 11 years. I would hardly call that 'young'.

RE: Good or New Movies Review
I think that the decline of Dr Who during the Matt Smith years was the result of bad writing and bad scripts, more than it was anything to do with Smith himself (who is, IMO, a very competent actor).
