@Rinel There aren't really that many versions? There IS a Director's Cut of the last several eps, and I'm not sure if Netflix is including those scenes or not. But it's the 26-episode run of the series and then I THINK the Death and Rebirth and End of Evangelion movies. It's a brand new dubbing of all of it, which is WEIRD for me just because I watched the original US dub so many times and those voices are embedded in my SOUL.

Hello! We haven't really interacted directly on Arx, but I'm Valkieri there.

RE: Real World Peeves, Disgruntlement, and Irks.
@Auspice FWIW, my mom had both her knees replaced in the same year (not at the same time) and while it's not fun, of course, she had no complications and her quality of life shot way up after recovery.

RE: The Apology Thread

@Ghost said in The Apology Thread:
I apologize to a few players back in the day, whom I won't name specifically for their anonymity. I believed it's just a game and what is IC stays IC, so I muscled through a few things, putting IC first. After all was said and done, I realize due to OOC issues, angry pages, etc, that it wasn't JUST a game for you. Regardless of my feelings that IC should always stay IC, looking back, I can't help but feel like you were another soul on the other end of the keyboard, going through whatever kinds of shit that led you to get triggered.
I was playing a game and doubled down on what I thought was proper for the game and for my character, and I can't help but wonder sometimes just how real the hurt was on your side. For whatever reason the hurt existed, or why, I hope things are going better on your end, wherever you are.
In the end for me, it was just a game, but it doesn't matter how justified the hurt on your end was. I know better now than I did years ago how personally invested some people get, and I regret that my character choosing X or Y set another living human being into that kind of headspace.
I know at least four or five times, I went "fuck their moody shit" and turned off the empathy because I wasn't willing to dig through OOC weeds with strangers.
Earlier this year, I reunited and made amends with someone I hurt from 5W, and in retiring from the hobby, it might be one of the most soul-rewarding experiences I'm taking away from it.
I'm sorry, but this one feels a bit disingenuous to me. You're not apologizing for your actions, you're apologizing for their reactions. I've gotten kinda good at spotting this. Years of exposure to Spider tends to make one very good at spotting the 'I'm sorry you took this the wrong way' type of non-apology.
Yeah, pretty much this. A real apology in this situation -- what little has been expressed about it -- might be something along the lines of "I'm sorry for not allowing any consideration at all of OOC reality to get in the way of my IC purity." Maybe these are people who should have taken a step back if they were getting angry and upset at you OOCly, I don't know. But this wasn't a real apology.

RE: Storytelling

As far as I'm concerned the actual benefit of ST-ran scenes is in the fallout afterwards, in the cascading effect of letting the ripples of these big things reach different aspects of your IC existence - letting your friends now, manoeuvring politically to rally support from allies, etc. And it's absolutely in the enrichment of your character's existent through these new events since no matter what great chemistry I sometimes have with others renewal is essential or sooner or later we'll sit down and have that talk again. In a vacuum plot-lines eventually become incestuous, they get recycled. They need refreshing.
This is pretty much my favorite part of RP.

RE: Good TV
The books are really worth a read, though the English translation is considered lackluster compared to most.
I think I heard a passing mention of new translations recently maybe.

@Wretched There's even more! There's a second Yen and Ciri image, too.
I am going to very briefly complain about media transitions: Yennifer looks way too young.
Doesn't she keep herself looking early 20s in the books?
Books? Video games? Media? Then maybe the complaint is she looks in her 30s in the games. Who cares if the show is any good?
Lol. To be clear, I haven't read the books, and I absolutely prefer her looking in her 30s in the video game. I'd love an older actress because, yeah, sue me, I get annoyed at the constant "older male lead and younger female lead" dynamic (even if Yen is obviously way, way older than she looks). But hopefully the actress will have the requisite presence and charisma and they have good chemistry, because in the end, that's what'll make their relationship dynamic fun to watch.

There's are some IC candidates for the position, none of them a clear forerunner but there's interest in the vacancy. Then a new person, OOC friend of the Captain's and known by staff creates a new character and voila, that PC is handed the keys to the Captaincy.
Poe was really angry when Vice Admiral Amilyn Holdo took over the Resistance. Sure, she was a friend of Leia's and had some success in the field, but she didn't earn the command of the Raddus.
She didn't??

RE: Good TV
@Thenomain There was no moment of competition for me when it came to the Yen/Geralt pairing. Like, I would worship at the Queen of Yennefer, she's so great. Triss literally is all like "Haha sorry for totally manipulating you while you lost your memories" and I was like "exCUSE?"
But yeah honestly Geralt and Yennefer have to be one of my favorite video game pairings of all time. Dayum.

RE: Incentives for RP

Having followed some of the Arx Peeve threads (2 active, 3+ total?), I have seen folks complain how some players do try to game the system of incentives for RP'ing with new players. Is making the incentive to RP a bonus to XP or character development the right incentive?
FWIW, while some people might sometimes be annoying about the system and require reminders from staff to utilize it properly, I'd still say that by and large it's VERY much worth it in practice.

@roz Any particular reason? What kind of themes would you assume you could explore with that little idea-bite? What kind of themes would you HOPE to explore? Is it the idea of magic? The potential for a court-ish system? The potential for political intrigue? I know there's not a super lot to go off of, but it's meant just to be a seed (ehehehe) of an idea rather than a full fleshed pitch to people. So based off of what little is there, what interests you and what would you want from it?
I like MAGIC and I especially love ELEMENTAL MAGIC and also I like COURTS and INTRIGUE.

Only if you start spelling her name right!

RE: Incentives for RP
@Lotherio Oh, sorry, I wasn't clear to me that you were specifically looking for non-XP incentives. I just thought that you'd seen some passing mention of the @randomscene system on Arx via MSB and had gotten the impression that the overall feeling regarding it was that it was just gamed and not useful, so I only meant to present that despite gaming I thought most people still found it useful and effective in case people were considering something similar. I didn't think you were bashing Arx by any means!
