What actually makes y'all decide to move further? Is it solely just time and trust?

That's definitely what it is for me. I generally wait a good while into a RP connection before offering to swap Discord handles or whatnot. I want to feel like we have an actual OOC vibe going on and that they're a, you know, fun and reasonable person. I don't want people who are all but strangers having direct off-game methods of contact for me.

After that? I think just time and trust, yeah. And overall friendship chemistry. Some folks you may like and be friendly with OOC, but you just don't necessarily get into deeper personal stuff, and that's totally cool. Others you just find your way there to a closer friendship.

All of my closest friends are ones that I met online. I now live in a house of RPers.

      So, like, yeah.

    • RE: Attachment to old-school MU* clients

@kestrel The short answer? My client still provides certain levels of functionality that Ares doesn't. I'm someone who is generally not particularly resistant to change, I love technology and exploring new tools and whatnot. The Ares web portal most definitely makes some significant improvements in the experience, and I've been a cheerleader for it since early on.

Is it possible that someday a web portal like Ares might make so many improvements that the things I get out of Atlantis become entirely redundant? I suppose so. But right now there is still significant functionality that I have come to rely upon for my play experience that isn't available in the web portal.

Granted, the bulk of my RP over the past 5-6 years has been on Arx, which isn't on Ares. Evennia does have a web client, and some improvements have been made to it over that time, but it's nowhere near the functionality of either the Ares web portal or my MU* client (Atlantis).

But generally, clients generally come with more customization tools to tailor the client to the user's preferences. I think the idea that people are just resistant to change is a much smaller part of this than just that people want to be able to engage in a way that's unique to them, and that the client provides that functionality.

Didn't the thread start just with someone asking if there were any WoD games using roster systems? Is all the discussion just surrounding -- why the OP should or shouldn't be looking for one?

Been seeing a lot of hate for Masters of Universe on YouTube lately and frankly, I don't really get it. Like, people are losing their damn minds it. And it makes me wonder if the She-Ra remake got this kind vitriol.

You mean the show that reduced the sexualization of its classic main character and introduced more diversity into the cast?

Oh yes. It most definitely did.

Arx does have the flashback system, but I think overall you’d struggle on the game if you wanted to EXCLUSIVELY do that. The game culture doesn’t really support its use for primary play.

@ganymede I didn't see it coming in canon but only because I didn't ever think they'd go there. I'd totally seen the vibes in the show for at least two seasons, though.

I still love Outlander, tbh, although it's not nearly as good as it used to be.

But why would you force yourself to watch a show you don't like for over an entire season?

@arkandel 1 or 3. Having multiple photographic faces (2) can bug my brain. Although it's also not a huge deal for me, but just a preference.

    • RE: Idling all day on MU*s

@chibichibi said in Idling all day on MU*s:

Is it just me or do more people spend all their time idling in the OOC room or quiet room than actually going out to RP?

What's the point of even logging in if you're just idle?

Engaging in OOC convo. Having the backscroll when you come back (if you're actually idle). Being able to manage stuff that doesn't require actual RP scenes.

How would a MU* try to change this? How can we as players try to change this?

Why does it need to change? I find that the reaction to this is often something a bit more visceral than it is necessary. It BUGS people, but it's really only an issue if it -- well, becomes an issue. If you have a roster game and someone is squatting on a roster (logging on but not being active), sure, take the character away if it would be helpful to the game to have someone active. Otherwise, unless there's a problem caused by the idleness, I don't think it's actually a problem, it's just a thing that tends to bug our brains.

I definitely squinted at him when he first showed up with that game ad, as it smelled a lot like certain other game ads we've had from people who ended up banned. So I'm not super surprised.

Every time I go to the Arx wiki page, my eye immediately draws to the "latest news" section, I always misread Tehom's "Healing Tweak" post as "Healing Twerk" and it makes me grin really immaturely each time.

This is hardly news, but if you're getting Moderna 2, just make sure you're okay to be incapacitated for awhile. I kinda ignored that, and now I'm sitting here with a fever and chills and baring my fangs at god.

I had to take two days off work this week for just that. Fortunately my company is just straight up giving people free PTO for vaccinations and vaccination recovery and my boss is really supportive.

But yeah. No joke. I actually didn't have fever or chills, I'm sure others have had it worse, but everything ached and hurt to do, and I slept until 12-1 two days in a row.

Seeing cats that aren't my PCs is, like. BARELY less exciting than seeing my own. Like if my PC kitties are a 10/10, other PC kitties are a 9.5/10. They're all so great.
