My brother lives in Puyallup and I am not capable of saying Puyallup correctly.

RE: Questionably viable character types and tropes (tangent from staff ethics convo)
It's your responsibility as the player of the character who is less social to come up with the reason for your character to interact. Any time you are in a scene, think about your scene partner. It's not their job to unilaterally drag you into rp. I have 100% played multiple bloody loners who were bad at connecting with people yet nonetheless was capable of hooking into a scene with those people because I recognized that I had deliberately selected a character who was socially difficult and modified my rp to compensate.
Like ... there are few rp behaviors that are annoying that don't come down to players being self involved and not paying attention to their scene partners, in my opinion.

RE: Questionably viable character types and tropes (tangent from staff ethics convo)
@ixokai I mean, I don't think a paragraph of history and a paragraph of personality is an "involved" app process. But I finish an Arx sheet in about 30 minutes, so.

RE: Staff and ethics
I mean ... I'm not approving anybody to play Ramsay Bolton on a game I run, because that character exists to be an edgelord rapist.

RE: Celebrities that are Dead To Us
@derp Meh. An accusation supported by a statement from an alleged victim will get you to probable cause in a real court of law. Probable cause supports an arrest. None of these guys are "convicted" but you can sure treat 'em as suspects without abrogating any constitutionality.
I agree re: Takei but I'm also worried about it based on the Stern interview, and I'm worried that my bias in his favor is strong enough that I'm too prepared to give him the benefit of the doubt. He's been one of my favorite TV people since I was 10.

RE: Celebrities that are Dead To Us
@derp I've worked in criminal defense for years. My willingness to defend accused sexual abusers from criminal liability is distinguishable from my ability to accept victim testimonials on a more probable than not basis. I've talked about this before, but context exists, man, it's real.
Like ... working in criminal justice doesn't mean you automatically disbelieve all accusations of wrongdoing. Do you really believe all of your clients who say "bitches be lyin" about sex crimes?

RE: Celebrities that are Dead To Us
@ganymede Oh, no, I totally agree with that. It's still disheartening but it's not the same ball park.

RE: Celebrities that are Dead To Us
@arkandel There's been some awkward coverage surrounding that. https://www.avclub.com/the-george-takei-sexual-assault-story-just-keeps-gettin-1820394008 makes me concerned and upset.

RE: Reasons why you quit a game...
@darinelle I'm sitting here in court right now with a personal box of kleenex.

RE: Reasons why you quit a game...
@darinelle Um, don't you know it is now your job to rp with me every day? Chop chop. This is your life now.

RE: Reasons why you quit a game...
I found it helpful writing out our guidelines if only because it helped ensure we were all on the same page.

RE: Reasons why you quit a game...
@apos It's wise to let people go without chasing, yes. If it has already reached the point where a player is leaving, let em go. They're done.
The rest of this you may want to rethink because it kinda reads like you are speaking from within an echo chamber, dude.

@wahoo I was Eliza/VanillaBuilder/Malatan ... other people. That I don't remember all of.

RE: Regarding administration on MSB
Most people who post in the Hog Pit are perfectly civil and reasonable in other areas of life because context exists.
I don't buy this thing that the Hog Pit is some kind of magic curse on game society or something because people feel free to be ruder there.

RE: SunnyJ's Anti-Sexual Harassment Guide
I mean, innocent until proven guilty is a great ideal and I work, on a daily basis, to support and promulgate it. But it's an ideal.
You must be treated by the state as innocent until proven guilty by the state and convicted by a jury of your peers. But that's strictly a criminality standard. In a civil case, you're a harasser if a preponderance of the evidence says you are.
For an election, if there's probable cause to believe you've assaulted someone, I ain't voting for you. For an entertainment professional, if there's probable cause to believe you've assaulted someone, I'm sure as fuck not obligated to buy your shit.
To RP with someone on a GAME? Yeah, if there's probable cause to believe you're a dirty harassing creepster, you're off my game. You have no right to be on my game. That's the door. Pack your shit and get out. Context matters; standards of proof change depending on circumstance; we reserve the right to refuse service to anyone, and I'm not gonna let you play in my game if I wouldn't let you play in my weekend game at my house.

RE: Regarding administration on MSB
Whether there is a community is a fact question, not an opinion question. There is a community. It is present.
Whether you are part of this community is also a fact question, not an opinion question. You are. Thousands of posts. Empirical evidence. We are all familiar with you. We are even familiar with this argument about how this isn't a community because this is not the first time we have had this conversation.
Whether you intend on engaging in this community or whether you like being a part of this community or whether you like the community are all opinion questions about which your opinion matters, and you are free to have those opinions about no and no, and no; it doesn't change the facts.
This confusion between opinion and fact grows more and more prevalent these days but it doesn't actually change the true relationship between opinion and fact.

RE: SunnyJ's Anti-Sexual Harassment Guide
@kanye-qwest I actually have never really gotten a lot of it either and I am neither of those things. Some of it is because I spent most of my RP career playing on games that were predominantly female and staffed by, in majority, women. I think some of it is because I play male characters a lot, but I don't really know. I think my current female alt is cutie patootie but she doesn't get a lot of bullshit either.
I'm not complaining but I think it's just one of those luck of the draw things.
That said, it happens to women in my vicinity and I rise up with Cerberus-like hackles so maybe that has been witnessed?
