I really disagree that the only impact those thematic elements would have on those characters is "not making out in public". Identity is a complex and dense issue and even in our relatively more "enlightened time" playing characters with non straight sexualities and gender identities is playing characters shaped by the systemic oppression of their environment.

Like I said ymmv but I do think that if that's the only impact of your thematic universe on your pcs, that would be a different but other reason the game is not for me.

Yeah that's the main reason I don't have any interest in playing there too even though I've had friends check it out. At no point in my rp life have I thought, you know what my rp needs more of? Racism, sexism and homophobia.

I mean different strokes for different folks but I'm personally really glad that I don't live in the 60s and have no desire to roleplay in them.

I've always played a good mix of OCs and FCs on superhero games and never had anyone take issue with my OCs. I think a good RPer is a good RPer and a bad RPer is a bad RPer regardless of what character they're in, though.

Failure can be fun, especially when it's funny! COME ON PEOPLE.

@three-eyed-crow That would work great with the addition of the review forum for people to write in-depth reviews and detailed impressions of games.

It should be possible to say "Here is the issue I have with this idea" without saying "this idea is the worst thing in the world" and yet.

@arkandel It's not really discussions I'm talking about, though. IDK how to describe what I mean, but it's not that we can't have discussions that touch on the same points over and over -- because sometimes that is indeed how new ideas happen -- it's just we seem to keep falling into the same pissing matches over and over?

I feel like we just have the same damn fights over and over again. There's got to be a way to put a cork in round 111.

If I'm invested in a game I want two characters on it. They don't have to both be FCs but they damn well are gonna both be pcs and they're both going to be maintained at roughly the same level of activity. I frequently need two scenes at once because if a scene is slow I forget I'm rping if I don't have two going at once.

It's really just a personal preference thing and I know we have had wars about how multisceners are the worst but I promise I'm not the worst. I am sometimes mildly crappy.

@arkandel I dunno, if you have an established rule that says no character squatting I think it's a lot easier to go "Hi there, you are barely meeting this FC's activity requirements. Please review our policy on character squatting. Either start getting out there and rping or consider returning this character to the FC roster! We will check in again on activity in two weeks," than it is to fire someone from being staff for generalized shittiness or failure to pull their weight.

That said, TLF has a 2 FC alt limit and I think that does help. Honestly sometimes people squat when they only have one character for whatever reason, though. It really comes down to being willing to make rules and then enforce them.

I mean ... why not just make a rule against squatting and then enforce it? No need to turn character retention into something to politic over. Yes, you do need competent player management staff but I think games need that anyways.

You do have to actually enforce your squatting rule but this is not an insurmountable obstacle.

Whine whine whine. I have all of this work I need to do on my own cases including talking to people on the phone (UGH) and going to the jail (DOUBLE UGH) but I have to cover a bunch of dumb hearings for my boss instead and I DON'T WANNA.

My entire day today is one long I DON'T WANNA.

My noodles were so hot at lunch that I still have that spicy burn feeling around my mouth after driving back to the office. Yet no garlic or ginger flavors were sacrificed in my food in pursuit of lighting my mouth on fire. A+.

@Ganymede Yeah, I've offered to do that for friends loads of times, too. I think I've been taken up on it like ... once? We used to charge a $100 flat rate for an "angry letter" or a "shitgram" at my first job.
