So, I'm looking for a few things, so i kinda figured why not put a thing on here? Maybe i should put this in the Advertisement boards, but it's not for any one game.

      Fallcoast

I'm looking for more vamp sphere folks. Currently the sphere is in a stage of revitalization, but I want to help ensure that ball keeps rolling. The more the merrier. A particular squee if you make a Crone blood sorcerer! Hit me up on Ryuhei to talk about that.

I'm also looking for Non-Gang affiliated Geist people to hang with. I recently made a Geist character, but the Kings dominate the sphere. It's not a bad thing. They seem like cool enough folks. It's just not a theme I'm interested in playing in, due to real life history issues. Hit me up as Ezra to talk about this.

      Match of the Millenium

On here, I play Guy. So far, the folks have been super cool and friendly, but I seem to be having a bit of an issue getting RP. I'd like to get more characters on there that i can play off of, so a particular focus on Final Fight/Street Fighter characters, such as Rolento, Zeku, Katana/Sodom, Poison, and others. Outside of that, ninja-y type characters from any of the available themes are a-okay, too!

I'm not going to go on too much in this post, or anything. I swear i'm fun to play with, and all, and if you're even a smidge interested in any of this, just reach out and we can talk more in depth.

I'd suggest looking at Lamentations of the Flame Princess. It's specifically built for this, while being a retro-style system game. Very fun. It's like playing D&D in the world presented on Cannibal Corpse and Iced Earth album covers.

    • Night People

So, I've been moved to a night shift, and man... man, my current games are dead af at night. I guess I should clarify that by night, I mean night time in the US. I'm in US Central Time. Anyway! Yes. Night people, where are you and where is there actual activity these days? I'm a long time WoD/CoD player, but feeling kind of burnt out on it, so up for suggestions in all genres and themes.

    • RE: Eliminating social stats

@Lain But even you said it... you don't use social dice against players in games where the attitude isn't crap. Is this because you just don't want to, or is it because of the stigma that seems to be placed on their use?

I'm on FC. It's dead as far as activity goes. I'm literally on there all night every night. I went in to Reno as a guest, last night to test the waters. I was on for a few hours. Not a single person said a single word. Not even when I tried to make conversation.

Arx is a Lords and Ladies game, yeah? Not my thing. Also... I see all the drama and stuff that comes out of there and don't even want to get involved in that. I'm on a serious anti-drama kick after some stuff on FC.

      @TimmyZ

In statless MU*s (which I do play, too), there is far less of a focus on these things, in my experience. People just kind of do what they want, though sometimes there is the problem of cliques doing OOC politicking for certain advantages to varying degrees.

But, specifically, in playing games based off of tabletop RPGs, the system is kind of an inherent part of that experience. Also, there is often a large element of political based RP, which relies a lot of social ability.

There is, as was expressed earlier, an element of elitism. Combine these factors, and you come to the need for social stats and systems to prevent basically one group of players shutting everyone else out and having all the "things".

In short, there's definitely a merit to playing statless games, but in my experience, those games are very different in nature to those that do. You couldn't run a WoD/CofD game without stats. It'd be a nightmare.

      @Tempest

You hit on something yourself that kind of undermines the point you're trying to make. It's a collaborative writing thing. That implies collaboration.

Again, i go back to people needing to stop, collaborate and listen. 😄

The rolls, as all rolls, should be discussed OOC, to determine how best to resolve their outcome. This includes giving the player the cues they need in order to achieve the desired result. This is not rocket surgery. There is literally no argument ever that can be made to actually justify that someone cannot play a social character if they are not socially inclined. Even if they're not generally a good writer, you have the ability to help them and, in turn, help them improve their skill.

In the end, no one can or should force you to play with these people. That's totally your choice. Just don't try to make it out to be anything other than you being an elitist snob who thinks that they're literally too good to play with someone else. And also, don't try to invalidate the rules to suit your inability to tolerate someone who doesn't live up to your standards or to just generally try to help someone grow. Most of the people who fall into these categories are the newer players and the younger players, after all. They don't last long, because they get ostracized and feel dejected. Go figure. Then people whine about how the MU* community is dying.

    • RE: New Superhero Game Looking for Staff/Feedback

On the topic of players abusing system mechanics... My completely unsolicited two cents is that I have noticed a very distinct cultural difference between WoD games and Superhero games. It's been my experience that, in Superhero/Comic games, players tend to act more cooperatively than adversarial as they do in WoD, and even in what little SW MU*ing I've experienced. Now, most of the games I've played on have had a limited system that rarely, if ever gets used, but I was on one that was fully implemented to use the old DC RPG ruleset, and this still remained true.

    • RE: RL Anger

There are parts that, admittedly, seem completely the result of over-exaggeration and/or pure fabrication... I don't want to marginalize the message, because it's a valid one, but yeah... Too much scare tactic. Personally, I find it very, very difficult to believe that a 13 year old girl not only gets openly told by a shopkeeper "old enough to bleed, old enough to breed", but then that a whole cadre of cronies would start chanting it like a mantra. Not unless the store just openly says "Pedophile Comics and Games" on the window. There's simply too many people, of all genders, who are very sensitive/hostile to the very thought of sexually abusing minors. Plus, it just reeks of caricature, not character, if that makes sense.

The other thing is the example of "It's 2007, 2008, 2009" etc. etc. If this happened even two years in a row, why would you ever, ever go back to that convention? I understand that this question is very close to "Well, you shouldn't do this, unless you expect that" or something, but it's not. This is a question of "What person in their right mind continues to go back into a situation that repeatedly proves to be traumatic, knowing what will happen?" because... I can't think of a one. Not without going into the patterns of psychological behavior that surrounds chronic victims, at least. This person doesn't read as that type, though, since they truly seem to hold the viewpoint that they're worth more than the abuse they suffer. The type of people who continue to go back to abusive relationships do not think that way.

But, even if the article is poorly written and exaggerated or even fabricated, in part or in entirety, there is a lot of truth to it, too. Gaming has traditionally been a boys' club, in the tabletop world, and it hasn't progressed to be inclusive gracefully by any stretch of the word. I have worked in one of the largest and most established comic/games/hobby retail chains in the US, and I've tabletop gamed all over this country with a number of folks and at a number of stores, conventions, and etc. I have never actually witnessed any example of the extreme actions presented in this editorial. I'm not saying that they don't happen. Not by a long shot. I have, however, seen female gamers being dismissed and otherwise made to feel inferior. Mostly just through snarky, holier than thou attitudes and comments. I've seen girls be ignored. I've seen girls being given undue amounts of attention (which is equally problematic), and all, but I've never seen an ass slap and then forced isolation when standing up about it. I think that we male gamers (or us male, white, hetero gamers) need to grow the fuck up, most of the time with these attitudes. Though, admittedly, I will say I have never once seen any bias against race or sexuality at a gaming table. Of any sort. I'm certain that it happens. There's the bigots in every culture, but I think that this sort of prejudice might be more rare than sexism.

What are your thoughts? Is my experience an altogether uniquely better one, or does it seem fairly standard?

    • RE: Descent Reboot

If I remember correctly, there was also like a giant global stock crash, and total economic devastation along with the Thor strikes which led to the collapse of society and infrastructure and all that, too. It was like TWD without zombies mixed with Mad Max before the bombs dropped between Road Warrior and Thunderdome. with the added spookiness of spirit bleeds and everything else. And there was going to be the nuggets of mystery of what exactly happened, because it seemed too coordinated, or something. But man, this is remembering stuff from loooong ago for me.

@ganymede It's cool, and I understand why the call was made, and all that. It just doesn't look good when @Auspice is full on white knighting the game, AND is the one who puts all the complaints over onto a new thread in a place that isn't accessed by the entirety of the public. The accusation may be dead-ass wrong, but it doesn't change how it looked. I'm not trying to point fingers or mud fling. I'm just asking, as Auspice already said, that in the future, maybe a little bit of care was taken in considering who is the public face of such moves.

    • RE: White Wolf Street Fighter

I played this game religiously for years. Like every day with my little group of gaming nerd friends. I did love it quite a bit. White Wolf basically reconstructed the game in their "big book of beating ass" but... it was for WoD and that made it lose a lot of its flavor.

    • RE: Visit Fallcoast, sponsored by the Fallcoast Chamber of Commerce

Also bumping. I need more vamps in the sphere. I'm pasting my recent wanted ad from the game for good measure.

"Hello, everyone! This is a general kind of catch all thing. Over in vamp sphere, we've been trying to kick forward and get some forward momentum after a period of torpor. It's been doing surprisingly well, and we have some really cool people in the sphere right now, and we're getting people more and more involved. Always a plus!

That being said, we still have a LOT of room for more folks to fill out the ranks. Most of the Covenants could use representatives, and generally, just more people. Of particular note, we could really use some Sanctified! Please give us bloated old Crones an enemy that wants to burn us out like an infection! We also need people to fill out Court positions, including a number of high ranking placements that no one has come to claim as of yet. Lastly, we would like to see some people that are motivated to help us keep this ball rolling that we've started by helping to plan and run events, plots, and PrPs. The people we currently have doing these things have limited time, so the more the merrier.

Why would you want to be in vamp sphere?

Well, I'm glad you asked. It's pretty much a clean slate, as indicated above. Yes. We have some characters that have been around awhile, but the sphere is, in general, experiencing a sort of rebirth, at the moment. Also, it's a simple sphere to integrate into, with a whole world of possibilities. And with our current HRs in place, it's not the weak runt of the litter that it used to be! We're actually pretty dang awesome. Lastly, it's a game about being dead and loving it. It's dark, but romantic, it's sexy, and, in the end, it can really make you feel alive.

So, there's no real wanted concepts here, per say... other than my begging for Sanctified characters and people who like to run stories for people... Just a simple invitation to come on over and play. If you've never played a vampire before, there are plenty of us who are more than willing to help you get your feet under you, myself included. Just hit me up in pages or @mail on Ryuhei."

With an update: We've gotten some Sanctified characters in, so that's actually a ball rolling. That being said, one ball starts and another stops. I've had some people drifting from the Circle in terms of activity, so I'd love to get some more back. Right now, it's been falling on to me to be sort of... the guy to try to make activity happen with the Circle, which is hard because my schedule restraints and such, so having people who want to invest and run things for the Circle (Because I like having things run for me too!) would be god awfully swell.
