    • RE: Critters!

Ringworm is still alive in my house, but now it is limited to one kitty who is isolated upstairs. This is good because though the most random twist of fate our two ringworm fosters are going to their forever home Thursday!!

It is super bittersweet because we have fallen head over heels in love with both of them, as has our baby Calypso. We made the hard decision to let them go because in the end we know they will get more one on one attention from their new parents, and it will help our isolated-since-January baby reenter the rest of the household without unfamiliar cats

    • RE: Health and Wealth and GrownUp Stuff

Husband and I had a very frank conversation about cleaning. I sat down and made a list of everything that needs to be done in every room for our de-ringworm-ing regimne. It was very eye-opening for him as he realized how different my version of "clean" and his version of "clean" was. We both decided doing the whole house every day to that level was unrealistic, and so we split the house into three parts and every day work together to clean it. The first one was hefty because we'd mostly just picked up clutter, but ever since the cleaning has been about 30 minutes.

To his ABSOLUTE CREDIT he has embraced what we need to do. About half the time he decides when we'll start cleaning and I'm ALL FOR this. It has taken a huge emotional burden of feeling like a nag off of my shoulders.

In this way ringworm has been a huge and wonderful thing in my marriage.

Now... if he could please find the go-get-it spirit at a time earlier than when I sit down to RP... cuz I'm not going to say "but RP" since I WANT him to keep taking the first step. So every single time I've said "welp, guess I'll be late!" and gone to clean.

    • RE: RL Sads

My parents and youngest sister just got evacuated due to a fire near their home. I know it is out of an abundance of caution (after the Marshall fire last December no one in Colorado is fucking around) but still nerve wracking. Doing my best to sit and wait calmly.

Edit: They are safe and back home. It really was just out of an abundance of caution.

    • RE: Web portals and scenes and grids oh my!

Every time this conversation comes up the same people come out to say that "this system just doesn't work for me!!"

A few times, maybe, I would think that it's honestly a preference they're touting. After as many as I've seen though, it seems like there is more than a personal preference at play. I don't know what it is, though I have some guesses.

      PERSONALLY:

I've yet to play on an Ares game where when I threw up a general scene set and waited, people didn't show up. Yes, I did make sure there were people "active" on the game within it. I don't... THINK (correct me if I'm wrong) that Ares announces every time a scene opens? So people must have been looking, and I was just the first one who thew down a set and waited for people to come.

I don't do it ~often~ because there's that anxiety of "what if people don't show up" - but I felt that scene sitting too. At least this way I'm being proactive and people know what I want to RP?

Someone being okay with me taking their idea for their personal growth and jumping off the cliff with it. I ended up thinking up a whole PrP for this person and they went 'Cool, do it' and are letting me do it.

An exit in my Zoya's room was broken because I was stupid and gave it the same name as a channel. I said something on a channel about feeling like an idiot about it, but didn't put in a +request because it was my own dang fault.

Well one of Arx staff fixed it. I don't know who or when, but it works now. Everytime I look at it I am grateful for a staff who cares about the little stuff too.

The Marijuana babies (now named Indica and Sativa) are just too adorable. I'm not totally sure my husband is going to be able to let them go to their real foster.

      alt text

Indica, front, would only eat this afternoon when I was gently petting (like, one finger). Each time I stopped they stopped eating. We (me and the shelter) think that seriously it might just be socialization they need.

I gave up trying to follow the circular sandwich conversation on page 9, but I feel the urge to say this:

I fucking want a sandwich right now but can't have one because husband is cooking right now. I won't enjoy his cooking as much because my brain wants a sandwich.

SO THANKS FOR RUINING DINNER EVERYONE.

My husband's aunt works for a large publishing agency. A few years ago she and I somehow got to talking about books and so now I'll arrive home to a package of books she thinks I might like.

She has been right every single time and not a single one of them are ones I would have picked off a shelf myself. Historical fiction, romances, drama, science-fiction, non-fiction.

All of it amazing. All of it.

    • RE: The ADD/ADHD Thread (cont'd from Peeves)

      @Lotherio

The rules and regulations schools have to follow for special education are the worst (speaking from a teacher stand point.) I'm not legally allowed to say things to parents in many cases because I'm not "qualified." The best thing a parent can do is realize that in so many ways schools have their hands tied but the one thing that will untie them is a vocal parent who pushes till their kid gets what they need. This includes calling every. single. day. until the test is scheduled or finding an outside source to test. It includes showing up at the school and being willing to sit in the office till someone is able to meet with you. It absolutely includes sitting down with that god only knows how long pages of procedural safeguards and reading every single sentence. It's going to pit parent vs school in some cases, but when it comes down to it, the kid getting what they need is what everyone wants. Just... the system sucks.

    • RE: The Work Thread

I ACTUALLY GOT A SUBSTITUTE TO SAY YES TO TAKING MY JOB ON FRIDAY.

This is fucking MIRACLE. This is my 10th year teaching. In those 10 years I have gotten a substitute to cover my class exactly ONCE. (Granted, I've only taken 7 days off total for non-district training, but!) If we can't find a substitute it means one of two things:
      a) My kids are split up and groups of 3-4 spend the day with another teacher doing... nothing.
      b) One person from each "team" (Grade levels, support staff, admin, specials) give up half of their planning period to stand in for shifts about 30-45 minutes long.
      BOTH options suck.

BUT I GOT A SUBSTITUTE THIS TIME. I am so relieved. It's like a huge weight off my back. I can go to my grandfather's funeral and not feel terrible

    • RE: The Work Thread

Our middle school and elementary school are in two different buildings, and with Covid nonsense this year it's REALLY difficult to connect with those teachers.

But occasionally I meet up with one and I ask how things are going.

They're going poorly for them. And yet the message is that "people" have it figured out and are doing good.

They are not. None of us are doing this well. I wish they'd cut the rainbows and sunshine bullshit and just commiserate with us that this shit sucks. I'd respect some of my admin team if they'd do that.
