Didn't you just launch your Promethean game on TR? All this creative energy and ambition is troubling.

@Bobotron I do not know what this thing is! Link?
nevermind! Found it... http://www.mushcode.com/MushRoom

RE: Coming in 2016 - Bump in the Night
@Bobotron It will go way, way, way faster than the desc work did, that's for sure. But it's still a big undertaking that I, personally, have never done before. Of course I have my diggy diggy hole tool, which will save a lot of time, but it'll still be a little trial and error and getting the process down correctly. Unless, of course, someone else does it. Then woo!

I am happy to say that the grid desc has been all but finished! We have just a few rooms that do not have a desc, and those are mostly buildings tied to the various factions and other plot elements. I want to give a big thanks to everyone who helped me with this!
Next step: Digging a grid. O god.

@tragedyjones you say that now. Just wait. Watch. Witness the glory that is a Danny Devito looking maniac throwing molotovs to cleanse the battlefield.

@mietze Whoops. Including real names. Apologies! And I edited my previous post just in case said person takes issue.
I don't think there's any harm in discussing anything. I'm simply taking the line of questioning to highlight some of things on BITN that have been decided. More using this discussion as a platform to point out what we're trying to accomplish, and how we'll be different in different ways. I appreciate that someone could start running a story using a previous character as their NPC and get attached to it in a way that they would not were it a character made just for the story. I will definitely warn against that... and, well, I think that's the best we can do in the situation.

I just wonder if allowing PC "transfers" even if they are to temporary NPCs doesn't then shift the focus from the mortals to the old familiar monsters and ending their stories. Maybe that's okay? I'm neutral--but I do understand the concern.
In BITN, we don't have the old familiar monsters. We don't have vampires, per V:TR or werewolves per W:TF. We have weird creatures that avoid the light and suck blood, and strange monsters that shape shift when the moon is right. The entire idea is to have new, fresh horrors, based more off lore and legend and pop culture. So, if a storyteller (player or staff) pulls from an existing concept, they'll be pulling a personality, or speech pattern, or vague ideas. You won't be able to remake the exact same thing.
That said, as some guy mentioned, he's thinking of a Big Bad. Those are things we would want to limit. And you're absolutely right that if we run with this concept too often, it will shift the focus at best, and get entirely played out and obnoxious at worst. So, I am be fairly sure we won't see many familiar faces from alternate realities.
(Of course, all the above doesn't include characters who are re-imagining their past PCs as new PCs, that fit into BITN and the world we've created.)

RE: Coming in 2016 - Bump in the Night
Were we to run with this idea (taking someone's old, retired, etc PC and integrating them into the world as an NPC) it would be done on the stipulation that you're creating an NPC. If you're offering it up for staff to play, you're releasing that concept to staff. If you're running it yourself, you'd be doing so with some kind of plan that you created with staff.
Of course, none of what I just wrote is different than anything else. NPCs are NPCs. They are meant to play roles, and in a game based around hunting monsters, that role will often be getting killed. Anyone who writes up a monster for this game should expect the story they are writing to come to some sort of an end.
Likewise, any player that is creating powerful NPCs to use in their story will be working with staff anyways.
In conclusion, NPC antagonists will be NPC antagonists, and anyone that wants to play an NPC antagonist as their PC, they are silly.

RE: Coming in 2016 - Bump in the Night
@Arkandel You mean... My hunters would get the chance to stake some old, witchcraft-using priest that's pretending to be a servant of the Lord?!
I like it.
And, seriously, I do like it. Obviously players would be able to create their own monsters, but I'd be more than happy to collect some old PCs and run them as NPCs, or to help a player run their past PC as an NPC. It sounds like a very fun idea.

I do like cell phones, but also like not being able to google it. Late 90s seems ideal. Though I have issues with any setting not set in the present. Trying to remember what did and didn't exist, what did and didn't happen, all of that is too much work on my brain.

Did they have cell phones in 1980??? I like having those in my RP.

RE: How to use Potato MU Client
@Cobaltasaurus Try changing from wildcard to "contains" and changing your pattern to just "pages:".
Also try putting a channel into a spawn window, and see if it creates the window at all. There might be something else going on.
-
RE: How to use Potato MU Client
@Cobaltasaurus I'm really not sure what might be happening. I set up the exact same global event, and the output was that the page would go into both my main window and the spawn window. (You can keep it from doing that via "Omit From".)
Try closing and reopening Potato. I have seen it before where a spawn window gets closed and then doesn't successfully reopen.

@Cobaltasaurus Can you take a screenshot of what you have set up right now?

RE: BITN - Seeking Staff and Pre-Launch Support
@Gingerlily We have a few bars and restaurants already built, but just a few. We are trying to leave some room for player builds, as player-made hangouts seem to do well. We would love some local color, though, so I'll be messaging you!
-
RE: Coming in 2016 - Bump in the Night
@Gingerlily We do have a group at UMD! And I'll take a look at above scary story some time later.
As for you reliving your glory years, uh... sure?

RE: How to use Potato MU Client
@Three-Eyed-Crow I mute my channels, so they don't "flash". It cuts down on distraction. I then leave channels when I start RPing. Frankly, I just don't care what's being said, when I'm busy RPing. Plus, most games I've been on have logging enabled in the comsys channels, so you can always read back what you missed.
I don't use spawn windows, though. Drives me crazy, having more than one place to look.
