    • BITN - 101 Scary Stories

      As many of you know, @tragedyjones is starting up a new a MU, called Bump In The Night. TJ has also announced that we will be opening on March 1. So far, we've had a lot of good suggestions and positive feedback, and I want to keep on doing what's worked, and reach out to you all for some ideas.

      The premise behind Bump In The Night is mortal (or mostly mortal) people confronting and fighting the World of Darkness. Monsters lurk in the shadows, predators lurk dark alleys, and the things that simply cannot be keep jumping out and going "boo". We are looking to gather up seed ideas for short stories, plots, interesting NPCs, species of monsters, etc, that we can use to feed this game. We will not rely on a large meta plot to keep the game moving (though there surely will be some long-running elements), but instead short stories, of the "tell in the dark" variety.

      So, MuSoapBox, we all would love if you can contribute! Please give me stories! I'm looking for small pitches (5 to 20 words or so) for stories that you would like to see happening in game. Think of it as something like "a pitch for a Goosebumps book" (except, ya know, we don't have to be PG rated). If you got something you think is good but don't want it going public, go ahead and message me!

      Example:

      Abandoned amusement park haunted by ghosts.
      Mutant bed bugs/lice outbreak.

      (Note: BITN is using the CofD book exclusively, both for rules and to define our world. Our monsters will be drawn from lore, legend, and popular fiction. Vampire are not those things described in V:tR, but instead those things that lurk in the dark and drink blood. Let your creativity run amok!)

      I never intended to stay here and post a lot, but I've been drawn in, and rambling all over the place, so I guess it's time that I identify myself.

      Before finding the MU world in 2013, I was mostly RPing on player-ran Ultima Online servers. Anyone play on those?

      Since I found MUing...

      Past:

      The Reach: Claudio; Betsy Carver; EZ Buteau; Florent Fabre; Whitewater (staff)
      Requiem for Kingsmouth: Oscar Curran; Green (for RfK not-reboot)
      Eldritch: Joey Winter
      Bump In The Night: Infestissumam (staff); Joey
      Star Wars DOD: Poy Ven
      Arx: Cassius (the second one); Jack (original); Kaede
      Fallen World: skew (staff); Karma
      _Addie

      Present:
      Arx: Mae
      Fate's Harvest: Flatirons (staff)
      SF MUX: Ephemeris
      Spirit Lake: Green
      Chontio: Skew (staff/owner)

      @Pyrephox Unlike a standard CofD game like Vampire or Mage, it shouldn't really matter if a group is entirely absent. The PC cooperatives are at best mildly antagonistic

      Good to know!

      I'm actually imagining some of the pre-made groups might not get any love at all. If that's the case, I think the best course will be to have NPCs in the organization, and have it "ran" by staff. In the case that they become relevant to IC events, there's a place for people to go to ask questions. Likewise, if a player (or play group) comes along and wants to pick something up, there will be some continuity and flow. And, why bother having groups that might not see any action? I believe some of these groups will help create a more fleshed out, realistic game setting. "This type of hunter would exist, logically, even if no one wants to play them." Something like that.

      I'm also expecting a lot of players to go it alone, or make their own groups, which we'll certainly allow.

      @Coin YES! YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS. NEEDS TO HAPPEN.

      Edit: We'll need a set of triplet NPC's... Hepatitis A, B, and C. ^_^

      "Take these down to the Heps for testing."

      It's always important to maintain moral in a dark, dangerous setting like we have planned. Sounds like it's going to be easy for this group to stay positive.

      @Miss-Demeanor Yes, one is the mad scientist group. Which is going to be named something besides Coin's STD Initiative.

      And I think making some "faction characters" that are open to being PCs and will be made into NPCs if no one is interested in playing them sounds like a good plan.

    • RE: Cheap or Free Games!

      I'm playing Path of Exile. It's free (with in game purchases that you thoroughly DO NOT need). It's mindless. It's fun.

      The game plays a little like Diablo 2 or something of that nature, with a birds eye view, with you running around and clicking things. You level up, you get items, you get gems that give you powers, you have a "passive skill tree" that is friggin' 'uge and allows you to customize out your character. I'm playing in the "Talisman" league, which is actually a sort-of beta for new stuff they're testing. I've found (in this world, at least) that they've made a LOT of things easier, by defaulting certain useful features to ON (instead of having to figure out how to turn them on) as well as making certain items easily findable in game, so you're not stuck looking for that one gem you missed.

      The story is pretty convoluted and hard to follow, so don't play it for the story, but instead for the colorful colors.

      You are very welcome! Ever since Fallcoast's opening, the inability to use the wiki via mobile has been driving me nuts. I'd offered to fix it earlier but... that didn't come to be. I'm happy you fixed it.

      YAY! And yes!

      I would love to see a group that's kinda mad science-y. People that want to know everything about the monsters, so they try to capture and experiment/dissect them. 🙂 Proooooooobably not the nicest people ever... but its for SCIENCE!

      We were actually talking about mad scientist co-op the other day.

      Something something Coin's STD initiative, if I recall?

      @StarWars to @Miss-Demeanor: "No."

      Ahem. You might have to enable Flash for the webplayer, if you have something blocking flash. If not that, then there's a few other things that can be broke, but I don't know what might be going wrong exactly. Apologies!

      @Miss-Demeanor

      This is the link to Kylo Ren, on the web player: https://open.spotify.com/user/official_star_wars/playlist/0mJWJsZTz0I1iXFFeyRzcS

      And here's the "Spotify URI" that you can paste into the search box, if you're using the desktop version: spotify:user:official_star_wars:playlist:0mJWJsZTz0I1iXFFeyRzcS

      From here, however you access it, you should see "Created by: Star Wars"... click that, then public playlists, then it'll go. I imagine your browser is trying to launch your desktop player and getting hung up somewhere in there.

      @thebird You would be a Kylo.

      I got Finn. Which I'm not exactly sure where it comes from, as lately all I've been doing is switching back and forth between Alison Wonderland and Ghost.

      The Finn list is really good. All the playlists are really good, if you care for the genre.

    • RE: MediaWiki CSS?

      Fallcoast is calling the panel in a separate divclass in the common.css...

      div#mw-panel { width: 14em; }
      .mw-body { margin-left: 14em; }

      And if you look at TR's website...

      /* CSS placed here will be applied to all skins */

      .twocol {
        column-count: 2;
        -moz-column-count: 2;
        -webkit-column-count: 2;
      }

      .threecol {
        column-count: 3;
        -moz-column-count: 3;
        -webkit-column-count: 3;
      }

      span.dots {
        white-space: nowrap;
      }

      The issue isn't so much resizing, as the CSS is set to have the side bar as it's own unit that can be scrolled independently. My instinct would be to remove the reference to #mw-panel entirely, and then hope that mediawiki knows to display the sidebar. You'd lose the ability to scroll, but gain the ability to actually have a mobile verison. I think it does? As you can tell I'm not exactly a wiz at this, but hey, somewhere to start!

      Alternate would be to install an extension that allows separate CSS for mobile and desktop.

    • RE: What are you listening to?!

      If anyone is looking for some new music, a more diverse selection, etc, etc...

      http://spotify-starwars.com/

      Someone at Star Wars (like, the official whatever) has made up playlists for 22 different Star Wars characters, based on music to fit that character, or something. If you already have Spotify, it'll scan your listening history and tell you who your tastes resemble. If you don't have Spotify, you should be able to browse/search for the Star Wars user to see them and listen... listening is free (with ads) and can be done via the web player.

      So far, the lists are really good. One of my dear friends pointed out it's a little lame that Rey and Padme get all chick pop music but... besides that, good!
