RE: Any Sonic games in development?
Huh. I got a PM about this 3 days ago from someone who hasn't gotten back to me since then; and their profile says they haven't logged on since November last year. Did I get PMed by a ghost???

RE: MUs That We Would Love To Make (But Won't)
I feel like there's a risk of someone losing a bit of motivation if they know they're going to lose before they commit to however long it would take to play it out, but it's another valid avenue. I'd just like for there to be options to keep people fighting, whether or not they've got a specific feud going right that second.

RE: MUs That We Would Love To Make (But Won't)
@sg I'd have to see, like, how successful it is to start, and how everyone feels. Honestly I don't think you need to complicate wrestling much to make it fun to play; it's already amazing and ridiculous. Though it IS hard to resist world building.
I'd basically re-lable 'scenes' into 'Segments' for any given (apparently daily?? That or the passage of time isn't super specific) wrestling show, divided into Matches, In-ring promos, Interviews (possibly self-conducted if no one's playing a correspondant), and Vignettes which are scenes that just occur between characters backstage, or anywhere else in the world, where there are apparently invisible cameras; any of which can result in brawls if people run in, get called out, or otherwise feel like starting shit.
I'd encourage everyone to make alts apart from their 'main', just to have a variety of characters, faces, and heels around; as well as allowing them to make/play Referees, Managers/Valets, and Correspondants/Interviewers and what not. I'd love to have an actual system for playing out a match, but that's beyond me, though it would get around the problem of everyone having to agree on a pre-determined outcome (ironically) and just have matches; though if they want to have things play out a very specific way, people are free to just freeform it as long as there isn't a championship involved. Everyone's encouraged to have their own stories and feuds between each other. Maybe you have to post the summary/outcome of the match on a +bboard, or in the scene summary just so everyone can keep up with what's going on at a glance and be informed enough to decide to ask people if their character can get involved if it sounds fun to them.
Everyone's allowed to have one Killer Monster character apart from their main competitor, maybe. You're only allowed to have one Tweener character, if that's even a defined choice at all.
I dunno. I think about it a lot.

RE: MUs That We Would Love To Make (But Won't)
@sg I'm not sure I'd take it in EXACTLY that direction; I want there to be room for crazy/silly fueds and such; though I do like the idea that maybe royal offspring are expected to attain a certain level of accomplishment in the ring before they'll be recognized as an heir to the throne or what not.
Ooo! Ooo! Or the royal family will only allow a character to marry a royal person they love if they can prove themselves in wrestling.
If nothing else, wrestling would be the most universally beloved and successful sport, entertainment, and art form in the world, with room for crazy magical characters like the Undertaker and whatever the hell Bray Wyatt's supposed to be. I'm torn between there being one globe spanning mega wrestling organization, or lots of small ones just so there can be invasions.

RE: Any Sonic games in development?
Well, I can only attest to my own absolute dedication to dealing with creeps, predators, and manipulators severely. I'm hard pressed to imagine a scenario where my zero-tolerence mindset for that stuff would let me overlook it. If a game can't survive without those people, it doesn't really have any business surviving, y'know?
Obviously that's just me saying that, though.

RE: Any Sonic games in development?
All that said, I doubt my ability to build or run a game alone. It's just a nice dream.
-
RE: Any Sonic games in development?
Nono, I understand what you're saying, man. I just insist that Sonic's fandom's reputation is overblown.
It only stands out because it high profile, it's a production for younger people, and it's furry, which always gets called out through a loudspeaker whenever anyone does anything perverted, among other things. It's a melting pot of things that draw attention and derision whenever a fan does something weird, and it gets shared around a lot more than the piles of fucked up stuff surrounding Star Wars and World of Warcraft.
My Little Pony went through the same thing. I didn't even ever watch that show because I didn't want to be associated with its fandom. In retrospect, that's not fair. People were trying to enjoy that stuff, while weirdos and perverts went around embarrassing them.
Granted, Sonic's weakness, in my mind, is that the core games never really told a consistent story or gave a consistent setting to latch onto with the possible shaky exception of Shadow's arc. That's where the cartoons and comics can fill in a lot of blanks, and build a fuller setting, I think.
Again, I get what you mean, but I just can't shake off the feeling of potential. I get that with a FEW settings I'd like there to be games for, but Sonic stands out to me the most.

RE: Any Sonic games in development?
@wizz Again, that's not unique to Sonic. Sonic just somehow got more famous for it. Noisy maladjusted horny manchildren are a pandemic at large. There's plenty of people who are functioning humans who like this stuff.
I'll grant that the Freedom Fighters specifically are better known to an older audience, but they're not the point. The point is the setting and the adventures. Anyone that newer/less informed players don't recognize are just new characters as far as they're concerned.
-
RE: Any Sonic games in development?
@greenflashlight I don't see that as unique to the Sonic fandom. You can find some pretty awful shit in the superhero fandoms, and there's still quite a few of those games.
Hell, honestly? That clip is kinda timid. Quaint, even. It just kinda makes me feel embarrassed for some really horny kid out there.

RE: Any Sonic games in development?
@squirreltalk I dunno, I just think the setting on its own has massive potential for fun. I mean, three foot tall animal people who randomly have super-abilities in a massive fantasy world with varied environements, ancient civilizations, high magic and sci fi technology, fighting mad science and possibly the conflicting interests of other countries watching this happen and interfering? Just seems pretty strong. The Archie comic eventually got to Avatar: The Last Airbender levels of super good all-ages stories around the time Ian Flynn took over, and the fantasy is to basically keep that up on a game.
That's the dream. @__@

RE: Any Sonic games in development?
@derp Mostly the SATAM cartoon and Archie comics based on it, but I'm a proponent of taking the good/useful stuff from any given adaption and trying to make a slightly more cohesive and detailed world.for high stakes shenanigans and adventures to happen. Places from the games, possibly altered to make more sense (Unleashed's countries, whatever the hell Chemical Plant Zone was supposed to be, etc)
That and tweaks like, maybe Sonic being a world-traveling adventurer who gets wrapped up in things - like in the games - rather than him being one of the outcasts from when the local kingdom got taken over by a lunatic who converts flesh and blood animal people into metal-and-wiring slaves, as in the show/comic.
Sonic's exact starting point may seem like kind of a pointless switch - and there's a good chance I'd leave it to the player, anyway - but I figure him starting as an outsider creates some potential for some arcs. 1: Nobody in Knothole's totally sure what to make of him at first; 2. There's probably some anxiety that he could just pick up and leave on a whim the same way he arrived, leaving them without a secret weapon; and 3. Sonic, who's used to going where the wind takes him, and never staying anywhere long, dealing with his nature telling him to go run free, versus the fact that he's started to actually know, and care about, and bond with people, possibly for the first time in any meaningful way.
So. Y'know. I've thought about Sonic a lot.

Any Sonic games in development?
I don't suppose anyone's working on a Sonic The Hedgehog mush? At this point I'd basically sell my soul for a good Sonic MU to appear, with non-evil staff. I've had ideas for it forever, but I can't really make a game, and don't quite think I have the moxy to run one by myself.
Dibs on playing Sally, if there is. @__@

RE: Ares Asynch Scenes
While we're on the subject of Ares scenes, is there any way to make it so the logs put divisions between poses, and say which character/writer made the pose? Given the way RP plays out - kind of going back in time a bit to respond to an earlier thing in someone else's pose, and then following up on the most recent reaction; that sorta thing - it makes it tricky to parse a scene log without seeing the breaks. As a 'story' it just seems to sorta jump around awkwardly.
-
RE: Interest in Cyberpunk MU*?
I'm way up for a game like this existing, after playing too much - and yet somehow too little - 2077. That game doesn't really let me roleplay what I'd imagined for my character, though, so it'd be nice to have a place to RP that personality properly.
-
RE: How to launch a MU*
Also, in terms of workload, if you're making a game that's JUST about RP and has no meta-game qualities... reconsider how crucial the grid actually is.
By which I mean, you could just have a room where there's a list of major locations, and when you 'travel' to that location, there's a list of exits or teleport commands for relevant sub-locations, like friggin... Wayne Manor or whatnot. No need to get on the ground and look for it.
Or just have RP rooms where you emit something; though I admit it is nice to have desced locations. I just don't think the workload of an arranged grid is paying off these days. It's a holdover from a completely different type of game and mindset and seems like a barrier to entry for making AND playing games sometimes.

RE: MUs That We Would Love To Make (But Won't)
@SparklesTheClown I'd definitely be way into an AU of the Galactic Civil War/Original Trilogy era that just throws canon aside after a certain point and lets the conflict play out differently from the movies. And not just because playing Princess Leia is on my bucket list.

RE: MUs That We Would Love To Make (But Won't)
@ZombieGenesis Fair. Heck, 'demons from hell' is a legit faction. Though I'd probably keep all evil folks under the umbrella of 'Outworld' until plots are ready to move forward to, like, Shinnok and Onaga or whatnot.
-
RE: MUs That We Would Love To Make (But Won't)
@ZombieGenesis Agreeeeeeeed. Heck, you could do a beta invite-only run of an AU of the first tournament or two, or go full AU and re-imagine specifics of events to be better suited to MU play.
Dibs on Mileena and maybe Sonya if it ever becomes real.
(EDIT) I don't think I'd include the cameo bonus DLC characters, though.
