    • RE: Do people still MU*?

There's thousands of RP servers on Discord, that's where most RP's happening now. The MUs that are still around are carrying on, apparently without enough drama to bring it here; that or the board's just dried up.

@zombiegenesis It'd be so good. Would be fun to go full reboot/AU on the MK story and let people play out the cast there.

@zombiegenesis Basically I think you should just make a game you want to make/play on and hope for the best, if you think it has a chance at all. If the only kinds of games that can succeed are the kinds of games that don't sound worth it to you, it's not worth the effort.

Mind you, I say that, and yet I have yet to invent the Sonic MU of my dreams. Or the Mortal Kombat one. Or the 'Pro Wrestling is Real and Crazy' one. So.

@zombiegenesis I don't think it's either of those things. I think it's just that the people who've tried recently either didn't catch on, or proved inept; and that a new one would still have a chance, barring both of those problems. But people generally haven't tried, recently. As far as I know, anyway.

    • RE: Comic Games And Scope

I mean, there's an X-Men-only game that was successful last I heard. There aren't really many options for people who just want a focused universe; and I think focus is best, as characters become spread pretty thin otherwise on most games.

I think most failed games fail via either the failures (and/or drama) of the staff, or because they lost the dice roll that seems to semi-randomly decide whether or not a good sized group of people notice a new game or not, and stick around long enough to get a viable cast going.

Me, I just really want to play a fresh-start Harley Quinn, so DC or Just-Gotham is my bias.

@runescryer When you said 'Classic sci-fi' I was positive - and a little hopeful - that you meant, like, Flash Gordon.

    • A month and a half away from the anniversary of Sonic's release

The overwhelming desire for a Sonic MU returns once again. Don't make me figure out how to do this myself!

@ganymede I disagree, but even if that were true, most players would want to be more than that.

@zombiegenesis That only makes sense if you think of Batman as just, like, a narrative tool. Presumably if someone wants to play him, they want to play and develop the character, which would not seem attractive if you were guaranteed to have to give him up immediately after putting a bunch of work in for everyone else.

Someone grant me the energy and drive to make a Sonic MU. I could have built, opened, burned out on, eventually grown to resent, and then closed one by now in the time I've been thinking about it, and we'd be coming up on my nostalgia-driven attempt at a revival.

I kinda wonder if there'd be any legs to a Dark Souls MU; speaking of 'From' games.

Dark Souls is already enough of a frustrating experience for me.

      Fine, fine. Bloodborne it is.

@lotherio A new, explicit, 'go ahead and be gratuitously sexy or gropey even in non-sexual scenes' one, in this case. But ideally still with plots. What could go wrong???

I mean, a lewd themed Star Wars game casts a fairly wide net, audience wise! You could do worse!! Technically!!!

    • RE: New Project: Cyberpunk:Chrome Is The New Black

It seems like it would be good enough to just label certain scenes as, like, 'flashback scenes' or what not that take place earlier in the timeline. I've had that problem. Even when it's not about specific dates, there have been times where, like, schedules didn't line up fast enough for me to reasonably RP my character's immediate response in the aftermath of a friend being injured, since they would have mostly recovered by then. I was just able to 'back-scene it' in a scene taking place hours after the fact.

@mr-johnson This seems neat. I'd be tempted to risk the C&C to just make it an AU Matrix Mush, but I'm also not in the business of running games, so.

I kind of feel like the threat of people freaking out because a lack of available alts or whatnot is kind of overblown. And, honestly, if torches-and-pitchfork people really exist in meaningful numbers... do you need those people on your game? Do you need to placate them? I feel like you'd be better off without them.
