@Ghost Have I mentioned lately that I love your SO? Because I do. And that's just from stories and some briefly overhead stuffs thrown into a convo once. That woman is solid gold.

RE: RL Anger
@Arkandel Agreed. This is not, like, a general announcement to make.
I can see saying that in not-all-caps or something to someone who keeps trying to talk to you about it and you're like, 'er, I don't watch that and am not into it, so I dunno what you're talking about.'
I've been like that about anime series friends of mine will not stop yapping about, re: "No, I really don't know what you're referencing, 'cause I'm not watching that, y'all." but, y'know, politely and one on one an' shit.

RE: RL things I love
@Arkandel I can empathize with that dude somewhat.
Sometimes, the workaholic/'must be doing something productive with one's time' thing comes from low self-esteem or otherwise getting crapped on a lot during one's formative years and whatnot.
When paired with somebody who tries to be nice more often than not, and/or has actual anxiety or stress when asked/forced to have mandatory 'non-productive' fun, it's pretty likely that somebody spent a lot of time being told how worthless/wasteful/irresponsible they are by someone who mattered to them during some pivotal developmental period. (Think of all of those 'you'll never amount to anything' parents or spouses out there and you'll see how this kind of thing happens pretty quickly.)
Generally, they'll never begrudge anyone else their fun, and will often encourage others to go have whatever kind of fun they like. Being made to join in makes them pretty uncomfortable, though, so you'll often hear comments like the ones you mention a lot if that's what's happening.

RE: Forum Factions
@Misadventure said in Forum Factions:
1993 I believe, at Cave Muck.
This makes me weirdly happy. Like it was the genesis point for homo sapiens imaginarious, or something along those lines.

RE: RL Anger
@Ghost oh sweet jeebus I actually choked on a muffin at that

RE: RL Anger
@Ghost It could be something totally different. Like, when I'm asleep, my cat sleeps in my chair. When I wake up, I go sit in my chair to all the kitty side-eye glare she can lazily muster.
So, technically speaking, your cat could actually be all like, "WHY THE HELL ARE YOU HERE I PLANNED TO LICK MYSELF TO MAURY TODAY YOU JERK AND I'M TOO SELF-CONSCIOUS FOR THAT SHIT WHEN YOU'RE HOME WHEN ARE YOU LEAVING?!"

RE: Good TV
@Arkandel That wasn't the Sith Lord outfit I was thinking of, but it really was, too.
-
RE: Forum Factions
...yeah, I probably belong in there, too.
And this one time? At band camp?
-
RE: Good TV
@Arkandel I'mma just say: I want that island. Like whoa. That is all. And that outfit on said island was entertainingly Sith Lord. Which should not be spoilery, for there are many islands and many outfits, but it may provide a giggle if someone hasn't seen it yet, for when they do, because the one I mean will be obvious as hell.

RE: Forum Factions
@Arkandel I will still grudgewank you in spirit for derail (not really but I'll say I will if it helps)?

RE: Forum Factions
@Arkandel The 'wave' around me when I started was mostly people playing from college.
Not everyone actually had a computer in the house in the mid-90s, and could only ever play from the school's computer lab, which is a completely alien reality for a lot of people today.
Many, once they graduated, never turned up again. By the time they could get a computer on a fresh grad salary with loans to pay back and their new adult rent/mortgage, who had the time or even really cared any more (in their cases)?

RE: Forum Factions
It would be kinda fun to make a timeline post, somehow, somewhere, and let people post their start year.
Maybe a poll with a bajillion options.

RE: Forum Factions
@mietze I'm counting MOOs, too. My first year was MOOs, Ghostwheel and Cybersphere.

RE: Forum Factions
@Ganymede Our first characters would be old enough to drink and vote now.
(Cue someone thinking those are some of the phantom legion of votes in 5... 4... 3... 2... )
-
RE: Forum Factions
@Ganymede What makes it funnier though is that I'm pretty sure you are younger than I am.
-
RE: Forum Factions
This month officially makes 21 years. And I know some folks are older at this than me around here, which is scary.

RE: Forum Factions
@Meg
edit: and nobody even has to feel bad about using some old guy's pic -- apparently it's a special effects prop for something. -
RE: Forum Factions
Seriously, the old farts faction should have an image of Betty White, in a rocking chair with a shotgun, and with Grumpycat on her lap, Bond-villain style.
I am way too lazy to photoshop this, but I hope someone does, some day.

RE: RL things I love
@tragedyjones When the fluffbutt requires that (she needs one this year 'cause it's hot enough) we refer to her as 'Cator', after 'Ator' of MST3k 'Cave Dwellers' fame...
...because in addition to the mane and flufftail, they usually leave the big fluffy moon boot feets.

RE: Dead Celebrities: 2017 Edition
@Cupcake That moment you wish just a little that zombies were real for juuuuuust a few minutes at least so you could get their genre's daddy back, I've just had it.
