The idea that โ€œitโ€™s possible therefore itโ€™s allowedโ€ is what makes me angry.

I'm not reading this (thus far at least) as saying 'it's possible, therefore it's allowed'.

I'm seeing a lot more 'it's possible, therefore you must be aware that it may occur, whether it's allowed/advertised/disclaimed or not'.

I wish we did better at allowing people those emotions without shaming it, while being less tolerant of explosive /behavior/ towards other players.

@Ganymede I haven't actually played there in years now.

Every once in a while, I consider it? It used to be a good 'judgment-free shake-off-the-dust' kind of place when I hadn't been writing for a while -- but then I go to the OOC Nexus, read the short descs, and just nope right back out again like somebody set my ass on fire.

...which I'm pretty sure somebody would actually do if I stuck around long enough.

Part of it is patience, or specifically my lack of it in Shang's case. I know -- know -- there are amazing writers and players on Shang. I know this as actual fact. It's just that the usual process of sifting the wheat from the chaff there is... uh, it's already a crapshoot on a normal game, but it's worse on Shang, and the worse is usually measured in magnitudes of 'just threw up in my mouth a little'.

The vast majority of folks there are just not looking for the sort of thing I am these days, which I accept means I'm ye olden boring wench, but also that the demographics there have evolved to a spot that isn't very me. They do that every few years, so it may eventually come around again, but I'm not holding my breath or hoping for it, really.

Surgery checkin went... meh? Four of six posts are aces, better than expected.

The other two, not so much. Not a real shock since this is where they splintered the bone all over the place doing the extractions. They had to remove them to ideally see if the bone will heal over in order to redo them later.

If they don't, it's time for bone grafts. ๐Ÿ˜•

Painkillers are warranted when people yank metal out of your skull and abrade bone. They are not happening.

On the upside, no painkiller frenzy.

On the downside, that shit exists for a reason, namely, serious fucking pain.

      Ow.

@gryphter This reminds me of something I've said a few dozen times over the years. Namely:

"Of course I'm typing one-handed. I am a clove-smoking artist cliche. Where else am I supposed to put the damn cigarette?"

I know I should run when someone provides suggestions. (Well, that or found someone with an appropriate warped sense of humor for whatever's about to happen next, depending on the suggestions, of course.)

@Arkandel said in TS - Danger zone:

do you ever feel like TS doesn't fit the game and try to avoid it?

I can envision settings in which this would be the case.

Otherwise? So long as we're playing humans or most permutations thereof, people gonna bang, because many people like to bang.

I think bored pretty much nailed it -- the setting may impact how open it is or how comfortable people are playing it due to the constant slut-shaming bullshit people get in the hobby -- but it's something that will likely exist in any setting involving people or people-like beings outside of corner cases.

I am at about the same level regardless of setting, which is a whole lot of 'skip the gory details' and a whole lot of totally off-screen 'referenced casually in passing' sorts of things for a couple of years now, with very few exceptions. This vs. gory details doesn't make a difference to me, either.

@Ganymede Damn you, Gany. Now I need to acquire a roomba. ๐Ÿ˜

      Generally, to the last question:
Defining 'good' is... going to vary. I'm going to go with my definition of 'good', which is also the answer to the question:

      • isn't putting off any uncomfortable OOC vibes (pressure, OOC cross, etc.)
      • it is appropriate to the story/setting/characters/etc.
      • it is advancing the story/character development in some way
      • is not getting in the way of other things (RL, other IC obligations, etc.)

      Bonus points for:

      • sense of humor
      • leads to new insight into the character(s)
      • good writing

...which is frankly the same criteria I have for everything else, too, so. Take that for what it's worth.

@Packrat Between the two of them, none of our laundry is safe! โค

They're like photonegatives of each other. Too cute!

Since I still can't get a picture of her face for all the headbonks, this is the one from the rescue site we got her from:

...we melted. The wee freckles! I just about died.

I'd put in a search for what amounts to 'floufy girl not-kitten within 50 miles' and when she turned up in an alert, welp. I forwarded that along to my folks and my mother called immediately to yell, "EMAIL THEM RIGHT NOW! RIGHT NOW! SHE IS TOO CUTE! SHE'S PROBABLY GONE ALREADY!" into the phone. (They own the house we live in, so they get a say.)

Maybe the one time in recorded history I listened to my mother without argument. ๐Ÿ˜‰

...she has, of course, already found the dark laundry pile. Because of course she has.

I'll just be over here in the corner, dead of cuteness. She's hard to get pictures of because she's been prancing and headbonking the camera every time I try. Her full name is now Tama Gothsbane McDaintysnoot, and she is an amazingly good snuggly lil girl.

@Roz I usually see the thread has recently popped up when that happens. Usually. Or I figure it's searching for a thing and somebody fell down a rabbit hole.

That or all of our good arguments and dirt on the board are ancient and we're not that sort of entertaining any more, and people gotta dredge. (Wouldn't that actually be really nice, though?)

@eye8urcake Seconding ninjakitten here. I'm pretty sure I'm the one who mentioned that -- and it was a known troll doing it. So 'where it's coming from' really matters. There's a difference between an active poster who chats with folks doing this and someone with no post history going along your own post history and upvoting then undoing it (sometimes over and over) en masse so you get a storm of like... 50+ notifications with their name attached to it when you come back to the screen. (Not joking on the numbers there either.)

    • RE: Critters!

In a little under an hour, we're heading off to pick up a flouf. I am so nervous!

Our current flouf is a very social, gentle, loves-other-kitties cat. Alone, she was floundering badly and rapidly. We are pretty sure we've found her the perfect companion after a fair bit of heavy duty searching.

She's a 3 year old momma cat, now spayed after having raised her wee ones, and she is perhaps the most adorable beastie ever.

Aside from a few wee freckles on her nose, she is poufy and all white. (All the black tees in the house screamed out at once.) As a result, we've decided her middle name will be 'Gothsbane'.

Will try to get some pictures when she starts to settle in. ๐Ÿ™‚

ETA: OMG, y'all. I will have to get some pictures later. She is such a doll, I'm utterly speechless. She was singing little chirps along with Queen (and only Queen) in the car, y'all. Otherwise just lounging and chill. I think I just won the cat lottery or something. o.o

I have no interest in pretending people aren't coerced, I don't know where you got that idea. Even pre-obtained consent can be coerced from someone trying to be a good sport, or desperate to be liked, or anxious about ruining someone else's fun.

^ This deserves to be highlighted. Many problems come from this.

@bored Dude, there's a reason I switched, beyond 'is not so obscure that I can't find pictures of them for anything'. (OK, in my case, it's 'does the batshit crazy eyes SO WELL and I need that', but. Also this.)

As a somewhat related aside, I'm continually astonished how DC makes such decent animated movies and shits the bed so terribly when it comes to live action.

Their DC Universe series have been pretty good, though they're relatively new arrivals to the content pool. Doom Patrol in particular is fucking amazing.
