I absolutely promise to maybe look into adding Mage to my CofD stat system possibly eventually.

What I'm trying to say is, even with a statement of privacy and assuming the best intentions by head staff, all it really takes in the end is one coder no one catches at it.

This really explains all code and all coders. There was, a year or two back, an exploited code hole in ... bash, was it? That the people in charge of the code think was inserted purposefully, but it happened so long ago that they couldn't determine it.

What about Promethean, Changeling and B̶̶̫͎̠̭͈̜̼̞̐̉̈́͆ͩ̈͆͟e̼̳̻̱̾͒͑͡ͅa̤̫̤̥͖͇͍̲ͩ͑ͮ̓͡ş̠̝̪͕̮̲̭̗͑́̑ṫ͛̊͝҉͏̝̹͖̝͈̩̰ͅ?

What was that last one? I can't read that. There's too much static on the line. Let's skip it for now.

    • RE: Fallout 4

Is it me, or was @Lithium's reply dismissive? What is interesting to someone else is one reason I asked for input on mods. The reason Fallout 4 is not "interesting" to me is because it's too flat. Beautifully written when you get into interactions, but those interactions don't really lead you anywhere; they are self-contained and while I don't mind having a character whose motivations are pressed on me, those motivations are left behind once you get out of the starting area and into the wider world. There's no story there, there's just a game. There are smaller stories, and almost all of them are compelling, that's about it. There are few things to invest in.

Even Fallout 3 eases you back to the main plot, even if you choose to ignore it. It reminds you that there is a plot to the game, not just ... things.

That's what I mean by interesting.

      @Ganymede

Doesn't require any code change in the current system, certainly nothing more complicated than you'd find in nWoD Changeling, Werewolf, or psychic nonsense. Getting Willpower spends in rote rolls to process correctly would be the biggest challenge. As it so happens, I am right now trying to make sure I have the CofD rules on willpower on extended rules correct, which since C o' the D does extended rolls kind of funny people should usually be doing them one at a time anyhow.

      Anyhow, babbling.

The challenge of unreleased World Chronicles, whatever, of Darkness games is that they all demand on doing something entirely new and different, which means changing the structure of the system to accommodate, usually when people are chomping at the bit to chargen them. It's not unlike bypassing the compressor while in hyperspace, but not as impossible as manually stopping a ship traveling light speed between a planet's outer atmosphere and the surface. I leave that to the pros.

edit: I can even do something as complex as 'Merit.Arcana (Force)' limiting by Strength but 'Merit.Arcana (Time)' limiting by Wits. That would take a half hour to code and test. It would keep the word 'Force' from interrupting other traits that start with the word 'Force', as well.

it's still head-in-the-sand level naivete to imagine your privacy is going to be protected on a MU

It will be if I have anything to do with it. Negotiating control of your own experience in the world is acceptable. That George Herbert Walker Bush and others have convinced you otherwise doesn't make it true anywhere except inside your own head.

Or in other words, stop being stupid.

Which might make you ask why I'd want to play these games, and the answer is I love modern supernatural/horror settings.

See, this is your first mistake. WoD is not (nor, really, has it ever been) a modern supernatural-horror setting. Supernatural, yes. All the elements of horror, yes. Imagine, if you will, "Final Exit: The MMO" and you'll get an idea how most horror is going to end up when you throw 20+ persistent logins at it.

This also turns most of your complaints into, "this isn't what I hoped it would be" with a side of "I don't know what to expect". It makes me doubt your flowchart as a serious addition to the discussion but instead take it as a tongue-in-cheek consolation.

Nothing bad with these things, incidentally, just as long as we're all on the same page here.

(I typed this out before seeing @Derp's reply. Yeah, what he said.)

Not with access to the dark flag, to the server, to even an alt list. And if I do? Then I take responsibility for the changes I want to see rather than sitting on my ass discouraging others from making or demanding that change. That change won't happen overnight or even ever, but it will open discussion which will make changes happen.

You kids these days, so defeatist.

      So I lost Paladin Danse.

So I wandered around where I left him, looking all over the place, and didn't find him.

So I built the bell to ring and bring everyone by to find him, and he wasn't there.

So I looked up his code and had him teleport to me and he wasn't there.

So I did something in that settlement and he liked it, though he wasn't there.

So I went outside all settlements and had him teleport to me and he wasn't there.

And I ran into him much later, after swearing at the game, as a part of a plot I wasn't warned about.

I kind of hate this game.

@Thenomain It's not a journalistic piece, though. It's someone's personal blog speaking about their personal experience.

It's written to evoke a reaction, whether or not this was deliberate. At that goal, it's not very good, and to me it reads as trying too hard. For that, I can see people reading it as disingenuous, and the trolls and haters will grab onto that and throttle it, also to evoke a reaction.

I feel that if we held people more accountable for their behaviors, we wouldn't be bothered by any amount of spying. The trusting/trustworthy thing again. I am an optimist, which explains my depression.

If I had time to create a MU*, I've got an idea for an original horror setting. Unfortunately, I'm not sure when I'll actually have time to do anything that labor-intensive.

I'd call it something foreboding, yet believable. Perhaps a part of the world on the precipice of disaster that calls itself The Reach.

@Thenomain For my part, abuse is abuse. Are some abuses worse than others? Hell yes, but, that /does not mean we let any of it slide/.

Which is Mercedes' complaint, that Anita is letting the worse abuses slide.

She is justifiably pissed about what happened, and about the lack of support but that doesn't mean you support harassment and abuse of others.

Good, because she wasn't saying that it did. She was calling Anita a fraud for ... well, letting the worse abuses slide, for taking income and fame while not addressing the core issues of sexually motivated abuse.

      Because ... y'know, Anita's a fraud.
