      There's no "bloat".

      There is on the screen.

      It's an embedded youtube link.

Guess what I think of many embedded YouTube links. Just guess.

If you don't like it, just maybe don't click on the link?

If it's embedded, it's taking space.

      But wrongfunning other people

This is not a word with a definitive meaning. You're putting words into my mouth and I would appreciate if you didn't.

But as I expect you to have a very definitive dictionary in your head, you could be constructive and explain what that word means, instead of slinging vague epithets.

is exactly the kind of senseless hostility

Sure, if I did that on a game yeah, maybe someone calmly taking me--or anyone else doing such--aside and explaining this would be handy.

This kind of senseless hostility toward differing opinions creates the Staff-to-Player animosity that we've been fighting for decades.

Ares web portal supports YouTube videos.
      MediaWiki doesn't

That makes it an auto win in my book. 😉

Because people referencing ten million images wasn't enough bloat.

So you're saying that you prefer systemless to systemed, and a more open setting to a deeply established one?

My preference certainly, simple universal system is better than complex combat that requires reading 40 pages of a tome (handbook) and less established setting for me versus knowing the nuisances of decades old established theme.

But part of the draw of FS3 is that it hides the complex system in code. (Not that you can't read it if you want.)

My perspective, I see more systemless/settingless RP on Forums and other video games than on a Mu*. Or if it is an established setting, other RP outside of a Mu is pretty good about letting folks claim high end FCs and retelling stories versus a debate about how to play and who gets to play who.

So you see the the problem in how we have built up requirements over the years in certain circles (cough WoD cough) and if we want to be inviting, it will take more than a devoted recreation of, e.g., the Dresden Files world.

Encourage the light fandom over deep nerditry.

Yeah, I can get behind that.

The WoD 2E books are all fairly self-sufficient. Having the CoD helps, but you don't need it.

After having gone through Signs of Sorcery for CoD nMage 2e, and knowing about the upcoming Contagion Chronicle, I'm going to have to argue the point. If you pull elements from these books, you (plural/general) are either asking people to obtain the books or not use any element from them until they can find some other way to learn the rule or setting change.

So players who decide to just wing it rather than fight that barrier are often not unreasonable, and game creators should keep this in mind when adding material, and players should keep this in mind when reacting to those who might not know these things.

Addendum: All this within reason. If someone won't change their tune after being told that their choices break setting, then well, you tried.

      It's "soda water" around here.

Mineral water around here is either "super-expensive tap water" or "water that tastes like rocks".

Do you have a recommendation for system?

Hold on, let me strike that out:

Do you have a recommendation for system?

Do you have a set of recommendations for systems?

I know that I'm making this a "setting + system" discussion in asking, but a lot of generic systems can be tweaked, which while would require a little bit of reading to see how things have changed, I think we can talk about this without the inevitability of "your setting and system must be married at the hip".

The number of @faraday's FS3 games out there right now are good evidence that this isn't true. Each of the games must fall upon a certain scope, but scope and setting can be quite different. BSG vs. Gothic Americana, for instance. Similar scope, but wildly different setting.

So I am interested in what you have to say and would like to read the pamphlet. Do continue.

      --

This reminds me of the number of times I've heard people, here and elsewhere, complain that people will try to play a game without reading the source material. The idea that the source material is a barrier to entry and therefore we should ease up on it also changes what kinds of games that would help the hobby. "Babylon 5" and "Dresden Files" (even using a more generic system) become less tenable choices.

I do think that picking system and picking setting are different situations, but demanding people Know All Phase 3 Marvel Movies is a consideration alongside Buying Every WoD Book In Existence.

@silverfox said in What do you call fizzy, non-alcoholic drinks?:

Something else, aka, I am wrong

So I guess calling them by their proper names (Sprite, Coke, Mt. Dew) is wrong.

So I guess not calling them any one thing from the list--except Coke--just calling them whatever is handy is wrong.

      Your mom is wrong.

      edit:
@Livia said in What do you call fizzy, non-alcoholic drinks?:

Mostly I call 'em 'soft drink'.

Yeah, that was missing from your list. I've called them that, too.

I do not understand why people get up in arms about pop/soda/Coke. Except that "Coke" is a proper noun and should not be used as a collective noun.

Right, but there are a lot of people who say, "It's just a game; get over it." I can't blame them for not understanding or not wanting to deal with someone else's brokenness.

But goddamn, even normal people should learn how to say "no" without being an asshole about it.

making something a priority (everyone's enjoyment) over continuity does not mean I don't/can't recognize someone taking advantage of that

      This.

It doesn't surprise me that some people don't understand the PTSD° of surviving some of the worst, most self-centered staff and overbearing, self-righteous players.

The quote above is a sign of healing.

TIL that MUX imits how many traits you can set on an object before cutting things off. As such, all of the copy/paste code i've been putting in was NOT fully put in.

TYL that sending too much over telnet in one packet can cut off some of the information, so that only some of your data dump makes it to the game, and that Anomaly Jobs doesn't work if everything isn't installed.
