Which 7th Sea? The one with the bizarre game system but sensible rolling mechanic, or the one with the hippy game system but bizarre rolling mechanic?
First edition. So, the former?
Play Arx and squint really, really hard? (Mind you, I find some of their stat design decisions baffling enough that I'd much rather play 7th Sea with every splat tacked on. Stealth as a combat stat? Really? Everybody's a critic, amirite.)

I guess being in the minority, I want to build or play a game I would enjoy, not one with the widest appeal. If they are the same thing, then cool. If not, so what?
I agree 100% with that. We (mostly) don't do this hobby of Role Playing (in all of it's forms) for money or prestige; we do it because it's fun for us. If there's no fun, why bother? Now, there's as many definitions of fun as there are people, granted, but if you find others who are having fun alongside you, that makes it all the better.
Well, let's be honest; a game without other people enjoying it with us is not very fun. I have been involved in enough of those projects that I would, myself, rather a game that appeals to more people even if it means compromising some of my own wants, because I know the pay-off can be absolutely worth it.

I wish you'd make a streamlined readymade MUX chargen, sheet, roller system for 7th Sea
I mean, one that isn't for OTT or 8 years old

The most badass things the characters in LotR did were sacrifice and gathering help. The sacrifices were all notable, but they were notable to character development above other effects.
The issue here is can you get people to play character focused challenges. There is a place for it that I’d like to play, for sure.
@Kanye-Qwest one day. surely, surely there will be more books one day.

@Misadventure I have poked at ORE a few times, but that second one is new to me. It sounds a bit fiddly, like you have to keep track of a bunch.
The second one isn't from an ORE game. Don't Rest Your Head is a game system where you have to manage your rolls very carefully or you will start on a downward spiral. It's not as complex as it sounds, and extremely fitting to the theme. I think both Mis and I have written a DRYH roller before.
I know I wrote an ORE roller before, and even without all the random insane dice types it's kind of complex. It's one of the few times I've used as much ANSI as possible, though, so if anyone wants to know if Thenomain is always grouchy about ANSI, the answer is "no, just about yours".
The most complex roller is the 7th Sea 2nd Ed dice system. The core problem is that a true min-maxer will try to find a way to not give any dice to the GM, and why have code if it's not doing the hard work for you? I gave up trying to create a best-fit results calculator, because one of these things would have to happen:
No, no, no...yes. Enjoy your game and get over the GM having a moment's advantage.
I dunno, Shadows Of Mordor was pretty cool. It would've probably been pretty cool without the How-I-Got-My-Powers McGuffin too, but as it came out around the Saint's Row 4 days maybe not as popular.
Have you looked into the The One Ring RPG system? It takes cues from almost all other Middle Earth games in that your character can more or less be depressed to death. Better than a morality system, that's for sure.

Are you suggesting that we accept other people's notions of fun as long as they aren't harming ours?
Skol!

@Lain I fucking loved House of Leaves. Big thanks to @Auspice for recommending it.
I read it then I promptly forgot about it.
Except I kept thinking about it.
I kept thinking about how it was too long, how it was an obvious and almost trite metaphor, but also how the metaphor changes throughout the book as the fictional author seems to work out what the story is about, and how that there are two stories going on at the same time but I was far too tired by the end to read the extras except the one that you are told you must read now and I remembered the X on the bottom corner of page 164 and that's when I realized the brilliance of the book.
In the end, though, my thoughts end up about how Poe got the shaft from her music publisher and I wish she could release more albums.
edit: And that makes me angry.

Holy fuck, who shops at Best Buy? That's like shopping at Walmart. I guess people can't be intelligent all the time.
Did anyone mention the Dresden Files RPG or even Dresden Files, yet?
I have read comments from notable indie designers before where they detest the term "fun" and go for the term "enjoyment". Did you enjoy the game, were you caught up in it, did you get involved?
This is a particular bit of nomenclature that once you start digging into this level of game design comes from ones own development philosophy and creative beliefs. While I think that the idea of "having fun" being a statement of bubbly is a level of pretension, I don't have any problem with it being outside or even against anyone's design goals.
I would love to play Warhammer FRP 3rd Edition, but certainly not because it's labeled as fun.
I would not love to play LotFP because I've never been into the heavy metal genre, though this poor author may not accept Metalpocalypse as "fun", even though it was.

You know what RPG would be fun if tweaked to be high fantasy? Dresden Files RPG.
I register Republican so I can fuck with the primaries, but it is not illegal in my state to vote for anyone of any party. The Democratic party seems to know that I normally vote Dem, but I do get phone calls from both parties. I will say at least to me, the Republican phone calls are far more inflammatory and leading than the Democratic ones.

My pitch for Starfinder is that it is d20 based, we've seen Pathfinder MUs, and Starfinder is the Sci-Fi upgrade of Pathfinder.
So, in theory, it's doable.
Level-based.
