Well I wasn't doing the 5th And Vine approach. The old TM grid, had "Castro" "Haight-Ashbury" etc as core areas, and then each neighborhood was built off that 'single' core room for the area.

You know, I still really disliked that grid. There were more than a few times, call it about ever fourth scene I had on the game, where we had to decide what the room was at any given time. The Temproom code is because of this game's grid, so that I might never have to do it again.

      Some advice.

      Many people here are jaded.

Many people here have played a long time.

Many people here have not run a game in a very long time.

Many people here are working on or running games.

Take every word as thoughtful advice. Even these.

Take every word as potential time-bombs from people who don't know you. Even these.

Take every word with a grain of salt. Even these.

Do what you think is right.

Do it because you think it's right.

      Stick to it.

Sometimes I find this community to be too full of righteous pedants who can't see further than their own ideas. It drives me fucking batty.

I could put on my 1998 Musher hat and tear your ICA=ICC rule to so many ribbons that even a stripper would question putting them on. I say this because it's a peeve, because as recently as The Reach have I seen people defend their OOC vendettas with that tired phrase.

I know you mean well, I just never see that going well.

To me,what you're going for is "be loyal to the setting, theme, and other characters, be loyal to the story, play the game as a living world". Apocalypse World phrases this better, but I don't have it on hand at the moment.

    • RE: Do you believe in paranormal things?

      @Chime

And my point is that we don't know enough about the electron to call it conclusive. We only know that we can't know both because the way we observe it, thus the "insufficient tools" remark. It may very well be that we can't know both, but we haven yet had enough evidence to say why. Like gravity, our models are pretty complete but until recently we had not one bit of data as to WHY. Gravity was a phenomenon in the same way the electron issue is. Just because it's a phenomenon of science doesn't make it any less baffling.

      I was agreeing, but expanding.

Also, the comment about the human mind being unknowable was a joke, considering how I said that ultimately nothing was unknowable.

So what you're saying is that our tools fail us and we're left with incomplete information and have to fill in the blanks with our chaotic, unknowable human minds.

We just have an incomplete model for both the electron and the human condition.

      Ye--

@Arkandel said in Do you believe in paranormal things?:

I will also add what I'm talking about now is actual, legitimate phenomena, not just things science hasn't gotten around to explaining just yet but which fit the overall directions of accepted natural laws.

      ...

      Oh, then no.

If there was evidence in the scientific community of the existence of an ultimate deity, for example, "accepted natural laws" would be okay with this. That's the nature of the Scientific Method. Hell, that's it's point.

To me, it's like you're asking if there are things in the Universe that we can never, ever understand no matter what, things that have no consistency or logic, things that come from truly no knowable source.

Of course not. Even cats try to work out their world. I like to think we're better than cats.

Things we took as phenomena 100 years ago are known scientific principles today. Identical twins seemingly having a psychic bond freaks us right the hell out, but I have zero doubt that this can be explained. How? I have no idea, because we haven't been able to explain it yet. We're not even sure it's a real phenomenon.

But we stopped torturing the mentally ill, we stopped blood letting, we accepted that there isn't a second Earth, all because we put the unknown through test after test after test until it became known. Hell, we just built a machine to detect gravitational bursts. That is so. Fucking. Cool. For the first time since an apple fell on a physicist, we have a chance to not just know gravity exists but know what it is. Gravity is moving from phenomeneon to tangible knowledge and that is an exciting thing to watch.

So no, I cannot believe in the unknowable, because we have centuries of evidence that this just. Doesn't. Work.

      I watch Cry!

(And I'm still asked when I'm going to do more videos with that Theo guy. The n is right there, people! I shouldn't complain though over the years I've seen and heard many versions of Moiren.)

      When you tell me when!

Speaking of, a technical question for the community: Moiren and I are having a hell of a time finding a good screen-sharing program where I can see what she's doing, or visa-versa, with sound, real-time. We have come kind of close, but not close enough. Full-on screen-sharing because we have an idea where either of us can mess around with the mouse.

I can't remember what we've tried, but they were either too technical to set up, or showed the machine's registered user name by the mouse pointer. That's what I want; the wider Youtube audience to know my real name. Hah, no.

    • RE: Any Streamers Out There?

I religiously watch two streamers: Cry ("ChaoticMonki") and Dodger, because they are entertained by and interested in what they're playing, try to bring people into it, and their voices don't make me want to shove ice-picks in my ear. I've been watching a lot of Two Girls One Quick-Look for things I never thought to look into (trigger warning: they are vocally pro-LGBT) and MangaMinx for the same (tho see above re: want to stick icepicks in my ears).

One guy I work with when he's bored watches the kind of monotone Twitch stream of game after game of Hearthstone that I dislike but is incredibly popular.

I keep thinking about streaming, but I never quite go from '0' to '1' and I'd start off all of it saying, "Hellllloooo, Internet. Moiren here." Fortunately she doesn't watch the above streamers or she'd have noticed me sneaking in each of their intro phrases and styles while we were playing Ibb and Obb.

Okay, so maybe "hammering" is causing some people's pedantic attacks to flare up, but there is a general argument going on here (a different one, not just "this is mean"/"nuh-uh!") which was not created by the initial post or the initial poster.

Yes, because you can pick up the Remastered version, which includes the Left Behind DLC. I highly recommend it.

The Remastered version was one of the first releases for PS4, and it still goes for around $40, used. It's that good; it's that popular.

I meant the just announced PS Forever or whatever they're calling it. When (when, I say) the next Last of Us comes out, I want to be able to play it.

Is there a policy on group apps?

Are group apps normally constrained on MUDs? How curious.

It's occasionally been restrained on RPIs due to power balance factors.

3 or 4 people app'ing in as a family can pretty easily take over a game and very quickly make it not fun for everybody else, due to what is largely OOC agreements between that group of players. It's easier for them secure resources, it's easier for them to cover all their own crafting needs, and they will always have each other's back when it comes to conflict, even if only for the flimsy reason of 'oh he's my bro' (which, yes, ICly is certainly a compelling reason, but OOCly not so much when that character in particular has barely been involved in any RP, and the brother has very little reason for the conflict in the first place).

Imagine if it was considered acceptable for families that app'd together into a MUSH to start gangbang PKing other players over insults in Bar RP or politics or because they want that nice rifle Joe has.

The flaw here, is people can pretty much do the same thing without blatantly app'ing in as a "family", assuming they talk to each other on Skype. And if they're going to make a family of PCs together, they're probably talking to each other outside the game.

Man... imagine how much more fun a mush could be 😞

It was called DarkMetal. I think it's still open if you want to try it.

Anyhow, the Star Trek movies have replaced actors before, so. I'm more concerned about the guy getting pinned between his car and a wall. That sounds painful and a slow way to go.
