I explained what the article was about
For your edification: Burying the Lede
Then don't infer the absence of something as the crux of your argument.
I have no idea what you're talking about.
I get it, man. You're going to be on top of us here, no matter what we do.
I still have no idea what you're talking about.
I'm going to do my best to provide interesting content to MSB users, once a month, regardless.
I really have no idea what you're talking about, since I defended that you should do so as you had been doing also "from page one".
Playing the victim now. Classy.
I didn't see a point being made greater than:
That's my opinion
Making this not a discussion, but a slap-fight. Who is the more foolish between the two engaged in same?
Really, you seem to me to be defending something that isn't what I was asking about, leading me back to "know your audience".
Providing a bit more context:
I think that our reliance on pure hobbyism has contributed to our population decline
This is a decent point, but I don't see the lack of for-pay options as a major issue. I think the lack of decent for-pay games being an issue, as we can crank out something just as good, if not much better, than I've ever seen on the pay side.
Evennia's a rather good means to broach creating a professional MUSH. I can't say that nobody here, a community full of MUSH developers, would be interested in that. Can you?
I can also not say that there's no invisible purple unicorn, nor a teapot halfway between here and the moon. Can't remember the name of this logical fallacy. Asking someone to prove the absence of something, or that they can't prove the absence of something means that it's probative, is a dick move.
My goal was to share content that I think would be interesting or valuable to MSB users. I think it (at least, partially) worked.
And I think burying the lede was important enough to point out. You also created your own content for an article that had nothing to do with the above. Both of these things are, in my opinion, sad things to want to do.
If you're interested in what licensing and profit in the Mu* (mud and mush) world, write an article about it. I'd be interested in the conversation it would kick up.
Am I cherry-picking, or am I asking why a major benefit of Evennia is its license? Either you can defend it or you can't. I'm sorry that you decided to advertise what looks like a decent Mudlike in this way, obfuscating many of its other benefits with what may be a minor advantage, if that. Burying the lede.
If you want to admit that it's not important and retract your defense, that's cool. I'm genuinely and patiently waiting for an answer.

If you disagree, that's cool.
I dunno if whether or not I disagree is a thing. It's a know-your-audience thing, and reminds me of explaining chickens to a duck-fancier society.
It's also a know-thyself thing. I skimmed the article and I couldn't find anything in it about the importance of licensing.
The article itself is okay, I'm just ... way confused, to the point that I took it to Optional Realities.

for-profit games
Are we going to try to do that, again?
This is a major issue?
I'm still on my "seriously, what?" thought.

One of the biggest issues with older MU* Engines is their restrictive licensing.
... What?
Seriously. What?
I think people are using 'templates' in a different way than what Mediawiki means, @Roz. You can put these standard player pages in under the Tempate:
namespace, but I think it's more that people are copying a layout they like from a different location and filling in their own information. That is a template, of a kind.
But yeah, if these are Mediawiki Templates, then the credit can be given there.
They do have placeholders for and a few included inline functions. I suspect if I got involved I would explode that, but I wouldn't want to re-create Mushcode, for obvious reasons.
Without an in-game language, Evennia is a Mudlike and not a Mushlike. It's a Python Mudlike instead of a C Mudlike, which should make it somewhat more accessible to non-coders, but that it's not Mushlike it should make it a hell of a lot more accessible to coders.
Volund and I did kick around some thoughts about this. IMO, until Evennia has an in-game code framework, it's going to be harder to appeal to us Mushers. ("Harder" not meant to imply "no way in hell" but something we'll have to consider in the negative column.)
I say this before diving into the new Mu* platform, but the people I am the most concerned for are the builders, who are not coders but do a lot of code-like, meta-game things. We shall see.
Pathfinder? Thanks no. But in the tradition of Nuku I do wish you guys the best of luck. Let us know if you guys go Kickstarter.
So the following came from a discussion with Lights Out RP's coder, who seems like a really nice guy in spite of the game he's coding for:
Crow (Vol) pages: yeah I just kind of amble from one game I'm helping to another, delivering patches and fixes. really try to stay out of politics except for the one game I actually OWN.
Crow (Vol) pages: and I'm not technically 'running' it, someone else has the reins at the moment and they just ask me for advice sometimes.
You paged Crow with 'What game is that?'
Crow (Vol) pages: Exalted MUSH: Shifting Sands.
Crow (Vol) pages: over at phantasmgames.org 2525
If you like Exalted, maybe check it out? No promises, but he's passionate about coding, and could probably use people who want to play Exalted. I can't say anything about activity, or code. It's on Penn, but no negative points for that.
Anyone who doesn't go to online communities to avoid the politics, is nice and not negative (to a complete stranger, at least) earns some respect.
@HelloProject
My legitimate gripe about Skype on Windows is that if I single click on a chat, it does not change focus on that chat, which means if I start typing I end up filtering the chats and not chatting. The Skype for Mac team knows what I mean.
The ads in Skype are pretty inane, but that is probably a marketing decision and we know that all Microsoft marketers are pure idiot.
Skype on Windows ... advertising Skype on Windows? Skype advertising anything? What is this madness and who do I ask to get fired because of it.

Improv classes.
As a Mu* coder, I have to say: Dear god yes more co-op improv fewer mini games please! When you have someone coding full time for a game, or several people, mini-games are okay, but this is nearly impossible anymore.
I do think mini-games are fun distractions and immersions. Language code, for instance. Weather systems. Hunt code. The systems we in WoD-land are subsumed in lately are bureaucracy. This does facilitate RP by freeing staff up from creating more bureaucracy.
Apocalypse World, a horrifically dark game system and world, has a few rules about how to play the game, something that nearly all other RPGs out there explain as a simple "just pretend that's all you need!"
Rule Number One: Play to see what happens.
GM's Rule Number One: Barf forth theme.
The author has distilled one of the methods of playing an RPG down into straight forward steps, clear enough that if you don't play the game this way you can say, "No, you're wrong."
This is really what we're talking about in this thread. Not so much how to portray darkness, but how to get players to stick to theme and treat their character as a living creation that is not themselves.
Once we can work that out, we can tell people that they volunteered to play a game where bad things happen and ask them where the disconnect is.

Jaunt posted our likely changes to our front page and I was commenting on that fact and that we saw the feedback provided and that the delay is due to our graphic designer making new slides.
Ah. Well. I provided my feedback. Er, I will try and edit this post with the precise post number once I'm able.
