This was normal for 1980s video games. Nowadays I hear about playtime on some of these games and say things like, "Only 80 hours gameplay? And that's after buying all the DLC? What a rip-off."
Wasteland 2 absolutely still has elements of that, but it's nowhere near as bad, at least not that I'd found. And Infocom games? "You miss doing one action near the very beginning of the game and you can't finish it" wasn't just normal, it was expected. Yeah, those games were designed to challenge nerds.
I'm quite happy that game design has evolved and still remained challenging, but yeah, count yer bullets.
@EmmahSue and I continue our fight to cure the world of disease. After the July 4th Weekend saw an outbreak of Squanch (the disease affecting North America and most of Europe), major U.S. cities went from worry to outright rioting, making the job of the CDC heroes that much harder. It also spurred debate, sometimes itself getting violent, on the US Govt's official position on mandatory vaccination. So far there has been no movement from the White House, seeing Squanch continue to ravage North America in a barely-controlled state through late July.
Pandemic Legacy continues to impress.
Tabletop Simulator continues to get better.
@admiral
I've died so many times in New Vegas essentially scrounging for forks. And Wasteland? Or Wasteland 2? Save early and save often, or create a new team at the Ranger HQ.
(I just realized how long it's been since a video game didn't have The Protagonist, but had a strong story element. Wow.)
People could RP the theme they signed up for. It’s a novel concept that would be helped by code and a fun mini game but let’s start there.
@shincashay
Sometimes. There is one in Evennia base but I’ll be honest, it’s pretty bad.
I’m just going to ping @Griatch and wait. (Not the only Evennia coder, but The Evennia Guy.)
@mail allows you to write as you go.
@mail person=subject
-A line of text.
-Append some text.
@mail/proof (I think; doing this on phone on the fly)

And sent. If you’ve been using the one line only version all this then me I’m sorry.
What kind of game?
99.9995% of the people like phone talk/texting functionality.
I like complete news files and simple chargen. The simpler the better.
Other than that, pour all your effort in making people feel welcome and included with things to do.
I feel like I missed something.
This is usual where I'm involved. I do sincerely apologize to the entire world that my communications aren't better.
Let's just say that I'm angry at the current state of American Politics and how that's sometimes reflected on these boards. I really do think people are better than that, and I'm constantly let down. Why can't people try to be better, even in the face of people who don't?
Adulting is hard.
I think #2 absolutely deserves someone to be a dick back.
And I think it's just making it into a bar-fight. There are people who can do it well, but they know what they're doing and are the exception that proves the rule. Otherwise, you risk escalation and you cannot take the moral high-ground; you've lowered yourselves to their level with the excuse of "they started it". (Which was never an excuse when I was growing up. Maybe things have changed.)
The #2 anti-trolling technique (after ignoring them) is to respond to them with honesty and logic. While I think we over-use the term "troll", it does bear looking into. A true troll will respond with more, while people who aren't really trolling (knee-jerk reactions, e.g.) will start to act in kind.
So yes, if we can stop escalation, all's the better. If not? Sure, let's bring out the big guns.

important edit:
I agree with "it's degrees", but I don't think the first response to defending oneself should be to make a sick burn. It should be "does this need defending?"
The second should be: "How is the best way to defend this?"
I cannot think of any situation where "with being a dick" is a good answer. A fun answer, sure, but not if your goal is solving the problem.
Is it, though? In an open discussion about religion, is saying 'I don't like this religion' rude?
I know you and I disagree about what the Advertisement board is for, but I think it's rude to shit-talk someone for disagreeing, that is without saying something like, "I find that rude for this discussion."
That is, it's not okay (acceptable, not-rude) to be a dick to someone you think is being a dick. It's just making it worse.
Do I not care about you? I'm attempting to communicate with you, appease you even, which is does not mesh with "do not care".
My point is that you don't need to defend yourself. A lot of people who think they do, don't. It's a matter of accepting proportionate response.
There was no winking and nudging involved.
@thenomain said in RL Anger:
Well it's more than that.
You and others did jump to defend a game with little more than a "nuh-uh", which is already a huge peeve of mine, but you're far from the only person involved in that thread who did that, far from the only person involved in day-to-day life who does that, far from the only person involved in (many) Federal Governments who does that.
This is a stupid way to communicate. It's hate-based segregation, making fun of things you don't like.
And if this isn't you? Then it isn't you. I honestly don't care who it isn't, I care about who it is. It makes my blood boil when people get away with it because they are glib, or because they are charismatic.
There are people who use it as a tool, but like all tools knowing its use gives you more latitude with it. Not knowing how to use it is no excuse to hurt people.
I really, really hate people who hurt others on purpose just because they don't care about them.
And that's the name of this thread.
If I wasn't talking about you, then why are you coming here to defend yourself? What's there to defend? (I really have no idea what you're talking about, and honestly it's not important for me to know.)
This kind of "rushing to the defense of something not needing defense" is exactly what I was talking about, though, so now I am.
Partisanism sucks, people. It really, really does.
This one is truly an RL concern of mine, though anyone active on the forum today can guess where it stems from. Well it's more than that.
It's okay if someone hates something that you like.
It's okay. They are just one person. You are allowed to like things that other people don't. They are allowed to not like things that you like.
You know that song, "It's okay to not like things"? That includes not liking people who don't like things. Being a dick to them is also not okay.
There are, of course, exceptions to all of this, times where escalation is valid, but you've got to start by stopping and thinking: Is this okay? Or is this going to make the problem worse? (And if so, are you going to take ownership of your role, or are you doing it just to be a troll?)
And no, being a troll to a troll never ends well for those around you. Ever.

@kanye-qwest You can tell who the clique is by who upvotes every single post in this thread praising the game.
Yeah, glad I left. You guys can fuck right off.
Even a cursory glance through this page alone betrays that this statement is factually incorrect, just FYI.
A cursory glance through this thread is inconclusive.
And while I would love to see you, Admiral and Seamus have a discussion about the pros and cons, I'm hating to point out that this is the Advertisement thread.
(edit: I hate to point it out because the last few posts have been nothing more than "nuh-uh"/"is so" haterism/fanboyism, and an Actual Discussion Would Be Useful. But no. Alas.)

Because you're one of those crazy planning people, who plans. I bet you even have a GANTT chart for your character. You...planner...you.
Hah! I don't, but I do have a type of meter that keeps track of certain events and I use it to partially determine reactions and actions of the character.
A kittometer?

What I find really interesting that Seiche (Sieche?), made that list. She was nominated for a best series. I know that she's looked at by a lot of really veteran MUer with some cringing and hatred. But I think it's pretty awesome to see someone who was once an active MU*er getting nominated for a Hugo.
Nuku is still putting out insanely popular pony-themed RPG books, so while I was hoping that Seiche's life was miserable for the horrible things that she did to honest people (she's on a short list of four people I feel this way about), eh.
Mind you, Nuku was just weird, not socially poisonous, so I'm far happier that he's being successful.
