    • RE: Player buy-in

      @arkandel

See, here it makes it sound like you’re giving players a choice. “Here is a thing I want to do, cool?”

What you described was setting. This is what players should be agreeing to before they finish their first character. Their interpretation is going to change things, yes, but I cannot, e.g. go to Arx and decide my character is half-elven.

Nor can I go to an Elf-Only Inn RP channel as Spock. This is not a lack of “buy-in”, this is outright disrespect to the game. (Or hilarious.)

There are only a few things you can do, and most of them are corral the players until they agree to play the game before them. The other is throw them off or close the game.

You can also luck out and not have this be a game-closing problem. A solid player base will help you overcome many obstacles.

I think you're both right, a subset of Cyberpunk, or a kind of what I've also found being called "Tech Noir".

      Cool.

I don't know where to put this.

In trying to improve my world building, my brain threw the word "noirpunk" at me.

I didn't know whether to be angry at its redundancy, or feel like this is a brilliant mostly-untapped concept.

Mostly I love to throw my word-salad at people and see what happens. 😉

Let's get back to the game development discussions, please.

To be fair, cheerleading and positive feedback is incredibly important to even have game development discussions. Several of us—edit: including key players like myself and Chime—have pretty much given up on the hobby because of the incessant negativity and apathetic and sometimes even active abuse of people in this hobby.

In the meantime, we wait for Cobalt to decide if she wants to share her thoughts knowing that at any moment someone can make fun of her. What you're seeing is the people of this board trying to get back to that point by, e.g., cheerleading and deflecting negativity because they want to know what happens next. This is the kind of board you wanted; complaining about it now (and I see Ark's +1 Me Too vote) is kind of disingenuous.

And believe me, @Cobaltasaurus, a lot of us want to know what happens next. In your own time.

Failing a project is just as important as succeeding at one.

You learn a lot and hopefully enjoy the trip.

      Hey, remember 7th Sea?

They have a board game they're trying to get kickstarted. Again.

It's pretty good, but it's not quite there yet, so I'm doing my small part to help advertise.

      https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/johnwickpresents/war-of-the-cross-a-7th-sea-strategy-board-game-rel

It's a wargame more like Scythe (not really a wargame) and has heroes with RPG/adventure/tasks elements.

      And Now You Know™.

That's like saying Indiana Jones died thanks to Crystal Skull. I don't think it did. Jar-Jar didn't kill the Star Wars film franchise, tho you'd think that Lucas wanted that outcome by it.

I think that if anything killed interest in Mass Effect, it was the ending of ME3.

I dunno, @magee101 might have a point: Staffing is Super Cereal.

Dammit, now I want cereal for dinner.

Hurrah for adulting; the ability to decide when to not be serious!

show up 35 minutes later carrying -fast food- that they clearly stopped for after being late already.

Is this their only opportunity to eat before their next break? Because if so, this is not an annoyance; I'd rather a co-worker be late than faint or be hangry.

      Why?

I mean returning to a previous edition’s ideology may be the point of this release, but the connotation of “backwards” here tends to be negative.

The outright reveal of the pair of them is... I guess it's because that's a spoiler to a game that's like 15 years old now? Basically, they assume that anyone who is reading the book is going to know those characters and that twist.

Which is not a good assumption to make, which is probably why they said: Here are these characters, this is the situation, here's what's going on with them.

I'm slightly disappointed because the best part of them is the reveal. They're moderately interesting characters before the reveal, but what makes them great is going on, playing a fairly standard kind of game, pretty good writing, interesting setting, then BAM!

Written as they are for 5e, they're just not interesting, and that's too bad. (In the "oh well, that's too bad" sense.)

Composure, thank you. Again doing technical typing from my iPad without reference material. Still, Appearance is gone, tho there is a merit (a la nWoD, tho nWoD’s Striking Appearance I think is more flexible),

Considering how happy people here are to write Bloodlines, I don’t think coming up with Loresheets would be hard if they are tweaked to be available for groups, more like Status. I would love to see players writing their own, tho I would have the same creativity block that I do for all writing things I do.

I’m sure something can be done for a more Mush oriented system. The Coterie setup itself looks like it would be the hardest sell for online play.

@thenomain What did they do to Jeanette and Therese?

You know that big surprise reveal about them in Bloodlines?

They just straight up tell you.

Also they are now running different clubs in different parts of LA which...is something that I kind of think is interesting. They are used as an example of gaining...not Status, but something like it, with particular groups. One level is “Jeanette’s Favorite” which made me giggle because I’m not sure being Jeanette’s favorite would be a good thing.

      @shelbeast

I noticed how they slowed down the XP bloat, too.

We are back to the “XP times new level” system which I’ll be honest I didn’t mind.

Now you get one XP per session, plus maybe one more.

Disciplines are 10 XP times new level.

      Paying attention, Mushes?

Also important to note that the Attributes are nWoD attributes. Appearance is gone, Presence is in. Best thing they could’ve used from the nWoD stuff. (Willpower is calculated nWoD manner too. Really some good system decisions here.)

Wait, I promised I’d not be doing an overview.

I know I’m gushing a bit, tho I can’t quite describe why. I’ve never wanted to play Vampire online, and rarely tabletop. Maybe it’s watching authors I like doing something well.
