RE: Coming Soon: Arx, After the Reckoning
Duke Nukem Forever took "a while".
Also, High Sierra is starting to complain about the 32-bit nature, so you know our days are numbered. A new compile would be welcome.

Battletech.
I managed to fail the first mission.
Also, the three years later schtick? Really? At least it's done well; here's the situation, now here's where it leads.
I managed to almost fail the second mission.
Why can't I put two medium lasers on the Locust dammit, I don't care about machine guns! How pointless!
I succeeded the third mission because there were machine guns on the Locust. Stupid little tanks.
Fffffffiiiinnnnneeee, this is a fun game.
(I still have no idea if ammo auto refills after missions. The repair tutorial remembers to mention the armor, but forgets to mention the ammo.)
(also: Does walking through power lines and small buildings and completely disrupting the infrastructure come out of your paycheck as you're destroying the roads and things? Because man.)
(edit edit: I wonder if you took all the tonnage from a 'Mech and put them in vehicles if you could absolutely swarm the field. It seems a dangerous proposal, but if done right, hmm.)

RE: Favourite Quote (Inspirational or Otherwise)
'In winter,' Grandfather Trout said, 'summer is a myth. A report, a rumor. Not to be believed in. Get it? Love is a myth. So is summer.” ― John Crowley, Little, Big
That is, love is fake to those not in it, but entirely real for those who are there.

RE: Using an SSD as cache (Windows 10)
So: Don't use it as a cache, just another hard drive. Well that's no fun, but sometimes practical is the best answer.
Thanks.

@wildbaboons said in Using an SSD as cache (Windows 10):
But why? If you're already using an SSD there will be no benefit. You'll just be copying from one ssd to another
I have one SSD for the OS, and one HDD for many programs. (coughgamescough)

Using an SSD as cache (Windows 10)
Hey, who knows about using a spare SSD in my computer as a secondary cache?
Unless the response is "oh dear god no no no", I have it, it's there, I might as well try.

RE: General Video Game Thread
I want one of the people who makes the ultra-realistic vehicle simulators, like Euro Truck Simulator, to make one based on Snowpiercer.

RE: Mismatched themes and expectations
Everyone takes their own thing away from fiction, and everyone sees a story in the presentation. These cannot always be accounted for. A mis-reading of theme is nobody’s fault; it’s the beautiful messiness of the human mind.

Has search for this forum software ever been any good? It’s often better to Google your search with

What was Canada's advertising and government presentation like in the 40s-60s?
More interesting: How was this affected by the invasion of America?

RE: Which setting do you like better?
Very little Steampunk describes a societal impact of technology. You know, the "punk" part of this. That which does is done well, but is a very small subset of what people call Steampunk. I'd rather it be called Vernian. Or Shellian. Or Space 1889...ian?
The Difference Engine does do steampunk very well because it's two cyberpunk authors re-imagining Neuromancer in the 1800s, and one of those writers has their very livelihood based on viewing sociology through the lens of science-fiction. Gibson pretty exclusively writes stories about people's interactions with a larger world. Two punk writers being anachronistic.
But otherwise most of Steampunk isn't really punk, and except for having grounding in Victorian era, barely even steam. Firefly is more Steampunk than a lot of what's out there. Western Steampunk, but very punk. So yeah, we'll be talking about this for a while.

RE: Which setting do you like better?
Sure, @Coin, I could call my cat "Steampunk" because it's a term devoid of meaning besides that of style. The fact that some in the steampunk community have posited that it's a post-apocalyptic setting should tell you a lot.
Dieselpunk describes a time period and a reliance on technology.
Cyberpunk describes a theme of toxic system shock and the disposability of everything including people.
Steampunk describes...well, fashion.

RE: Interest Poke - Fallout Canada
On the plus side, there isn't much lore about Canada in the Fallout universe.
On the minus side, there isn't much lore about Canada in the Fallout universe.
Which part of Canada are you thinking about going with? And what is your treatment of supermutants, which has been inconsistent between Interplay/Black Isle and Bethesda.

RE: General Video Game Thread
FROSTPUNK.
It is both frosty and punky.
Mind you, if the world went to a sudden frigid state, I'm not sure I would travel north from Victorian England.
This is a roguelike/random event system done right. 13 days in (2 1/2 hours of play or so) and I'm surprised I didn't kill absolutely everyone considering I didn't notice where all the research options were. And yes your kids have to work and you'll like it when we can heat your frickin' home for once.
I built a first aid tent! Hurrah!
People want me to feed the kids more. Dammit.
I give people more time off for the inevitable funerals! Hurrah!
I just ran out of nearby coal! Dammit.
I found survivors! Hurrah!
I...now need to find them places to live. Dammit.
And feed them. Dammit.
And heat the increasing number of medical tents. Dammit!
And the increasing number of research stations. Dammit!Frostpunk is a very good mood manipulator. A+.

Why did nobody mention Pugmire?I'm just waiting for Monarchies of Mau.
Well obviously. We cat people need something more than dorky dog-faces.
Well, adorkable.

Why did nobody mention Pugmire?
I mean, besides Fear of Furries: Yiffobia.
