    • RE: TheOnceler’s Playlist

For funsies here is a list of places I can remember having played. I am not providing names. This is not out of shame, but in most cases is because I genuinely don't know. So if you can remember a place and think to yourself 'oh, I remember this awful guy who once told the headwiz on the public channel that they were a right scoundrel and thusly got sitebanned' or 'there was a guy there who always pooped on tables in every scene, it was weird and off putting' that was probably me. I know I've played characters with names like Johnny, Sammy, Tim and Seth at least a couple of times each. Maybe a Silas in there, too. I staffed at a number of places, but fuck if I could tell you which ones. I'm pretty sure I was the first changeling wizard and played one of the first system-supported wraiths, but I don't remember where on either of those.

      DarkWeb
      Night & Fog
      Dublin
      Start Your Engines
Mountain Cauldron (theurge ritemaster got shunned by Gaia herself and gnosis reduced to 0 because he refused to gay marry two werewolves)
      Dreaming
      Dreaming 2
Teatime by ... Twin ... Twin Cities? Twin Cities by Tealight? Fuck, what was it?
Full Circle (I got banned for repeatedly referring to it as WoD on the Beach on public channels)
      Elysium
      Elysium 2
      Masq
Paris (the one run by the guy and his mom and then he died and the mom got kooky)
      Tombstone
      Purgatory
      CrackMUX
Tarterus (I see people post having played here seriously, but I swear to god I thought it was a sex MUSH. Two friends and I would log into the same character and then just pose the craziest shit we could come up with.)
Cajun Nights (I get that New Orleans has an unusual grid, but this place's whole diagonal bullshit was the wooorst)
      Manhattan by Moonlight
      The Damned
      Dark Gift
      Carpe Noctem (aka Carpem Nocte)
Northern Lights (unwittingly upset a person who'd had her kid taken away from her due to neglect)
      Double Cross
GarouMUSH (this place was such a pain in the ass I actually do remember my character's name. Martin. He got played twice.)
In Pace Requiescat (played a nuwisha senator, despite the DC setting there was never any government RP at all)
      Protean
Whispers and Dark Secretions (that was it, right?)
      Texas Twilight
Veil of Seduction (vampire character declared anathema after using the word 'obfuscation' correctly in public)
      Some game set in Atlanta

The clusterfucks I somehow missed, thanks mostly to Everquest:
      Ashes to Ashes
      Haight Ashbury
      Haunted Memories

A lot of these issues would be resolved by having someone on staff willing to drop non-episode-related scenes on the grid. Just a dumb monster-of-the week, even if the 'monster' is a robbery or a non-combat thing. Or hosting a regular RP event, such as a karaoke night would give everyone a reason to go IC, because you'd know there's RP there regularly. Or by having some real stance on PRPs other than "they are allowed, but no information on actually running them will be forthcoming ever!" Two or three enthusiastic (and hopefully creative) players can help a limping game along, as long as staff stay out of the way.

Too bad their anti-MSB rule means people are less likely to share their character names here, since actually trying to find RP on the game was like pulling teeth.

During my brief time there I never once saw more than one scene happening at a time.

A plot was announced with the promise of public and private scenes. One public scene was dropped. A week and a half later a private scene was run for the players in that public scene. There were people in that private scene who literally had not logged into the game whatsoever since the public scene they happened to have been on for happened.

At one point a post was made announcing the private scene and encouraging those not involved so far to interact with those who had been invited to get involved. I have no idea how this is meant to work.

Though the plot apparently involved the carnival nothing ever actually happened there, though I saw many players trying to do public RP there.

It's noteworthy that this appears to be the first staff-run plot since July. Though the ad mentions player run plots I didn't see any and nobody I talked to there had ever reported hearing of any being run.

A game with one very closed plot every six months, no prps and little public RP does not really have a lot to offer new players.

This is all in addition to the fact that the wiki is a shrieking disaster, contrary information seems to be the name of the game and that staff have a really weird attitude toward sex. There is anti-TS language all over the place (which, fine, it's a bunch of 15-17 year olds, this policy is ok by me) but then there is an actual post dedicated to how TS is fine, but behind closed doors. Which is just such a weird reversal.

And I'm now told votes earn you XP you can't spend because they don't really have a system in place for that yet.

Admittedly much of this is hearsay. Maybe some of this has changed? Maybe people got in on the plot? Guys, the last time I was this dissatisfied with a game I took it over. I decided against it this time. I gave up after a week. So if you hate me at least the game has that going for it!

We've integrated a magic system for Hollywood versions of Voodoo, Shamanism, Paganism, and Abrahamic faith.

So is there a kaballah system for Baal Shem pirates sailing under the black Star of David and crossbones flag, clanking tankards of grog with a “l’chaim!” and cursing their foes with a “next year ... IN HELL!”?

Is this the closest we’re apt to get to Tales From The Loop MUSH?

Edit: Eh, naw. Despite the Stranger Things comparison it looks more overtly supernatural horror than science horror.

I believe it was actually the third wave of staff, like Supernova, who started acting like if you logged into their supers game to play a super character you were some kind of power playing fiend who would ruin everyone’s RP. The only proper RP involved taking a non-powered straight character from a popular show and playing them as a gay werewolf. If PI was around now everyone would be playing Joe from The Flash, but as a gay werewolf.

In my time there staff didn’t really run things. Just approved characters and then hung out in the OOC room getting offended at harsh language.

By the time I played there attempting to play anyone with any degree of superpowers was heavily frowned on. RP was dominated by cake making and dress shopping. But, hey, I met my wife there. She asked me to kill her and the rest is history.

    • RE: Meanest (But Funniest) Thing You've Done in a Game

      Classic story.

      Boy meets girl.

      Boy falls for girl.

Boy and girl head off to a private room to fuck.

      Not their private room.

Euthanatos who owns the private room logs in.

Life adept Euthanatos people fucking on his front lawn.

      Pages staff.

      Wizard has arrived.
      <OOC> Guy says, "wtf"
      Euthanatos makes roll.
<OOC> Wizard says, "Guy, you ejaculate so hard both of your testicles forcefully shoot out of your body."
      <OOC> Guy says, "WTF!!!!!!"
      Girl has disconnected.

I, the Euthanatos, eventually quit the game because I knew I'd never again experience such a moment of pure beauty.

      Okie doke.

List at the top updated with two superhero places I'd forgotten. Operating Thetan never got approved because Crucible City was all 'we don't want religious characters because it's insensitive' despite them having had one character who was literally the daughter of God and another character who was a racist voodoo caricature. Note that sensitivity didn't prevent them from approving Bum Rush, who made light of homelessness and veterans with PTSD.

I also played on some game whose name I've totally forgotten, but which had a bunch of PI people on it.

Teachable moments with my 3 year old.

Her: You be a prince and I be a princess and we kiss!
Me: Or we could both be princes and kiss!
      Her: What?
Me: Two princes can kiss. Or two princesses can kiss. Or a prince and a princess can kiss.
Her: Or... you be dragon, I be skeleton?
      Me: ...yes. Also that?

The games you want just don’t make enough money.

Boy it’d be nice to embed a tweet right here, but whatever, read this tweet storm from game biz journo Mike Futter. He does a good job of running down the changes that are getting single player buy-and-done games canceled while P2P goes on strong. The gist is that $60 per person just isn’t enough these days and season passes patched the problem for a while but now even they aren’t doing it anymore.

This pisses me off, greatly, being a Destiny 2 fan and all.
Somewhere along the timeline, these greedy motherfuckers forgot that they were in the business of providing entertainment to us for trade, not proving us with a means to supplying them with a constant revenue stream.

Uh. No. Getting a constant revenue stream is literally the number one purpose of their (and most profit-based) business.

Every NPC with whom I interacted on Sagas appeared to be hooked up to an ELIZA bot.

Then out of the blue, after I’d figured out whatever arcane bullshit it was they wanted from me to get anything done and started getting credits and was able to hire people for ?adventures?, some staffer approached me about Taye becoming a Jedi when they went post-movies. Which made me think that they had a post-RotJ plan. Except they clearly didn’t. And overnight their game died.

      It was the weirdest place.

@coin If we were the 3rd and 4th, then 1 and 2 made no impact. People looked for you for a while, though!

Maybe not girlfriends, but Coruscant was littered with the broken hearts of twi'lek dancers who were sad that the new Taye was mostly interested in earning enough credits to buy a spaceship.

PS That ship was his tomb. I got out in the black and then didn't feel like figuring out how the code worked to go places. Logged out for two weeks, came back and the Empire was gone and apparently the interim government didn't have any plans to maintain the economy. Also, logins had dropped by like 95%.

The best part of that game was sharing dark secrets with Trilony.

"I'm the secret heiress of a mega-rich merchant family who most believe is dead!"
"Oh. I punched my aunt once."
      "What?"
      "Laid. That. Bitch. OUT."
