Calaveras MUSH
Tucked against rising hills and the San Juan Mountains, Calaveras seems a sleepy Colorado town; at least on a postcard image. Here people live their lives. From first responders on hand to rescue stranded tourists on the slopes of Antler Pass to the men and women that bust bulls and broncos at the rodeos over at Jackfield Stadium; from the ranchers out at Granja Basin to the few hipsters on Smelter Street. Calaveras is a typical small city in the Great American West that is Southern Colorado.
Calaveras is a MUSH focused on adult drama genres. Take any adult drama series and this is a place to play out similar drama. Looking for the troubles of operating a university and facing its challenges from sports team drama to any 'isms the school may face (The Quad), we have it. Looking for living the down and out life (Shameless) and trying to get by from day to day, we have it. Power play and drama among the wealthy (Dynasty, Dallas), executives and agents in the corporate life (Mad Men), crime and medical drama (take your pick of the many), hardships of life and middle age dealing with the past (This is Us).
If this sounds interesting feel free to look:

RE: Calaveras: Adult Fiction Drama MU
I'm an EST night owl so I crash sometime around 11 or 12. I thiiiiink there's usually some signs of life still when I logout, but it's not as active as earlier in the evening.

@goldfish I'm totally biased in that I'd like to see more medical people so we could do stuff at the hospital. But you probably couldn't go wrong making someone in law enforcement or a townie (basically people who own local businesses).
I feel like there are tons of female characters being made at the moment, but we do have some guys.

We also all apparently really LOVE the heck out of Halloween.

@auspice said in How to: make your poses less repetitive:
You are not going to abuse the word 'says/said'.
There's so much good advice in this thread, thank you everyone! This in particular really stood out to me. I'd been wondering lately if I was overusing that and had started to try and diversify things a bit, but it's interesting to see the take that it really can't be. And that's something I hadn't thought of, that we're so used to seeing it our eyes just move along to the next thing.
I'm a pretty concise poser myself, anything beyond 8-12 lines feels like it's too much. I try to avoid using excessive wording and focus on making what I'm writing impactful or at least being worthy of some kind of response from the people I'm playing with. I don't know that I manage it with every pose, but it's a goal.
Along the line of sharing writing techniques, I know someone who has really great timing with throwing out one liners. I've never been in a scene where they did it and had it derail or stop what we were doing. Instead it sort of... reset what was going on, framed it into a narrower focus and helped push things along.

How to: make your poses less repetitive
So I've been at this hobby closing in on two decades (sound of screaming) now. A couple of months ago I dug up some super old logs from when I played on SouCon. They were pretty awful because I was a teenager buuut something I noticed was that I was using a lot of the same wording then that I do now.
I've made an effort since then to change up how I write things, I don't exactly want to keep writing like a 15 year old. My question today is, how do you folks keep your writing fresh/dynamic/evolving? Any resources that you like to check out or just a conscious effort to switch up stuff?

RE: Calaveras: Adult Fiction Drama MU
I definitely get the sense that players are going to need to self-start their own stuff. Which isn't really a problem for me, I don't mind kicking stuff and seeing what happens.

RE: Calaveras: Adult Fiction Drama MU
I popped on, seems like a nice crew so far. I'll give it a shot.
ETA: Jack and Sally were extremely patient and helpful with me as I worked through chargen. Believe it or not, I've never made it through an FS3 character gen before! Huzzah!

RE: The Makeup Thread
I'm make up ignorant. I didn't realize someone could MATCH my skin tone in some way. I just gave up on concealer and stuff like that a long time ago because "my" pale was never the "right" pale for anything I saw in the store.

RE: MU Things I Love
We spent a not insignificant amount of time building up this barony action on Arx and the response to it from other players (reacting or getting involved), the guy we gave the barony to (an A+ kind of player) and staff (thank you for all the patience and amazing write ups <333):
Freaking fantastic. Worth all the hours of PRP running, resource gathering and networking.
Special shout out to Amanda in the Whispers for being our big Social PC and rocking it.

RE: Arx: @clues
@lithium When I started playing last year, I had some real moments of "ugh all the people know more than me" feels.
Now, if one of my characters died tomorrow .. I would go with a much more focused OC concept with a short list of goals.
Once I got done sniffling.
Anyway, the point I'm getting at is 100s of clues is eh. It's not better or worse than having 30. And you tend to gradually accumulate them.

RE: Arx: @clues
@oldfrightful I'm pretty sure becoming one/fighting one/obtaining an army of them would solve a lot of my problems.
