Nice! Gimp is also a common free alternative to Photoshop, if people are looking for programs.

I use Gimp and I am by no means a graphic designer (or graphically competent in any fashion) so that says something about it's ease of use for us amateurs.

Putting in a two week notice at a job you're happy to move on from. It's going to be a wild next month as I get moved and situated, but better opportunities are opening up and it makes me excited about what's to come. No longer stagnating.

    • RE: Ground Zero - Help Needed!

So... this project has stalled a little due to the fact that we need help.

      1. We need code help, badly. I can code basic things but I am floundering. We need help. It doesn't have to be long-term help, but we definitely need help setting up, particularly with +dice and chargen code. We're using Rhost and we're debating between using the nWoD (mortal) system or the Exodus (http://www.loki.us.com/images/Exodus_Survivor_s_Guide_v1.5.pdf) system. I'm leaning towards the latter but it will require coding that is beyond my ability.

      2. We're currently using genesismuds as a server and we'd like to move elsewhere, as it is fairly restrictive in certain areas and has some funky quirks. Are there any server providers that people recommend? And is there anyone who can help walk a newbie through transferring a database? And possibly setting up a wiki? Please?

As for the game itself, we have a grid that's 90% ready to go, a setting and theme that is nearly ready (we're still hammering out a couple details, which will depend on the system we go with), and base code (other than dice and chargen/sheet code).

If you are interested, please PM me for more details and information. Or direct anyone who might be interested towards this post. Please. We need halp.

Viscera Cleanup Detail. A game where you're a janitor (or janitors) who clean up the carnage left behind in sci-fi video games or movies. There's an expansion they give you with the game where you clean up after a Kill Bill-style movie fight scene and a Dynasty Warriors level.

I want that game next time it goes on sale.

In other news, I've been playing The Secret World and would be down for playing with others. Anyone interested, please PM me for the deets..

      Zork.

I got in a conversation with a friend today and they had never heard of Zork before. I grew up with it and, looking back, I realize it's not only the grandfather of RPGs, but also of MUDs, which later led to MUXs/MUSHs.

I am glad I was eaten by a grue. Repeatedly.

Oh man. I have such distinct childhood memories of playing Enchanter with my dad. I loved those games.

The Lurking Horror kept me up for hours.

Two weeks of bloody 90-100 degree heat. And it's not even July yet.

I didn't move to the northwest coast to live in hot. I came for 300 days of rain and wearing shorts in 60 degree weather.

I'm there with you. And no sign of ending any time in the near future. Had some nifty thunderstorms yesterday, though.

      Living alone. 🙂

Do what I want, when I want. Clean up only my own messes. No one eats my food or drinks my last beer. No arguments over what TV to watch or what music to listen to. No worry about being quiet while someone else is sleeping or being woken up by someone else moving around.

      It's really quite nice.

      The heat.

Ya'll may scoff because it's /only/ in the upper 80s/low 90s but it's significant when you're /used/ to 60-something. And it's going to go on for at least a week.

Should I die from it, don't cremate me. Drop my body off in the arctic somewhere and just let me freeze.

I am often mocked for both being from Baltimore and for using it as my Staff Name on TR. I work in the criminal justice system in Baltimore City, too, so I have a decent look at how things are. (I'm a PO).

But I mean we didn't solve racism until Wal-Mart stopped selling Confederate Flags. Duh.

I knew none of these things. I was attempting to be witty. Wit fail.

Of course not. Now, however, among many other things, my spouse can be on my employer-paid health insurance. So, I'm going to feel happy, and you can go sit in a corner and eat a box of prunes.

And hospital visitation rights, should the worse ever happen. This was one of the biggest concerns of some friends of mine, who have been together almost 30 years.

Not sure if this is because I am notoriously tied to Baltimore or just because things have been, ahem, "a little rough here" lately.

The latter. I am notoriously ignorant of what people are notorious for.

I have long resisted the idea that 'where' or 'hangouts' code completely hides people who are unfindable. Instead, these should list how many unfindable people are there, so if you're looking for scenes you can still see them.

Perhaps "looking for rp" should also override personal unfindable flags, but not location unfindable flags. I don't find things like "lfg channels" to be at all useful, though, and "lfg" flags not much more. It's cool that people like the idea, but the utility seems pretty niche.

The problem is that people don't use it. A LFG channel doesn't do much good on a mush where cliques heavily established, mushes small enough where everyone is on public channel already, etc. If no one uses the code, the code becomes obsolete.

And I hate the Unfindable code. Personal peeve.

A coded way to flag seeking RP and finding others who have flagged themselves. Then providing easy ways to join them (+meetme/+summon code is pretty common these days but it wasn't always).

Code doesn't usually help too much with finding roleplay but it absolutely can.

I love LFG code. I only wish more people used it. I think a large reason people don't use it is that it /is/ a fairly new code (relatively) and that a lot of folks don't know about it. If a Mu* has this code, they should advertise it now and then, just to remind folks.

+meetme/summon/join/etc are fantastic. As is putting the coordinates in the desc/hangouts code so that a quick look can give you coordinates to use with +travel.

Sometimes little things make a big difference, like RPing a scene where your character becomes annoyed/grumpy/irritated/whatever, mentioning OOCly that you're not trying to be a jerk, and having the other person reply that they completely understand because blah, blah, and blah, which were the exact reasons your character acted the way he/she did.

      Some people get it. 🙂

I find it awkward that you can't go directly to the oldest unread post in a thread. Some threads, like Fallcoast, can pick up two pages in a day.

When you click on a thread, there should be a box that pops up in the top right corner that allows you to zoom to the last post you read/first unread.

They have the Risen franchise on sale today for 18 bucks. Risen 1-3 plus the expansions. Anyone who enjoys single-player, open-world RPGs should check it out. It's one of my favorites and it's a really good deal. Also, who doesn't want to be a bandit?

Edit: Helps if I add the link. http://store.steampowered.com/sub/67373/

@lordbelh That's basically what I was getting at. People still experience the need to manage and question their expenditure choices while at the same time freeing people up to RP in a variety of scenes. Repetition gets boring.
