    • RE: Resource Scarcity System

I've played games with a coded +regain/hunt/whatever system, games with an auto-regain system, and games with a scene-required system. Personally, I prefer the coded but not automated system.

I dislike auto-regain because it doesn't take into account failed rolls. I dislike scene-required regain because it forces casual/limited time players to basically do nothing except regain scenes in order to stay alive, and that cuts into time that could be used for a lot of other fun things (many of which are just as thematic).

I agree with @lordbelh in that a coded (but not automated) system will cause most players to think twice about reckless spending. This is especially effective when there is a regaining roll limit, such as one roll per day. You can feel the pain and need to conserve without having to make every single scene a regaining scene.

Also, I like the idea of a scene bonus for dramatic failure at a regaining roll, but I think that regular regaining scenes should be treated by the same standards as any other scene/PrP when it comes to bonuses.

      Just my two cents.

    • RE: What Do You Love About WoD?

      @Goldfish said:

I love nWoD because it's all I know. I love the usual stuff. Urban fantasy, playing monsters, the ability to wedge any concept into it. But really, it's what I know. I have no intention of learning another system. I have no desire. nWoD gives me everything I need.

      A lot of this.

I do also like the fact that most games take place in modern settings, which makes it easier for me to get into a character. Historical games can be fun but if I don't have enough time to do some heavy research, I don't really feel comfortable playing them.

That said, I do enjoy the post-apocalyptic theme (it's easier for me to get into than historical settings for some reason) and I'm going to find out how well that might work using nWoD core/mortal system when my place finally opens. I pondered using other systems but while other systems would work, this is a system that I know, that other people know.

@Tempest I don't know how to alt, myself. I play one character. Not on this game, because I don't play this game (and after reading this thread, I have no desire to play this game), but overall.

@Goldfish And I want more vampires to play with, darnit. I'd think apps would take somewhat of a priority, considering the number of players on the MU*. I know vamp staff was re-vamping (hue hue) some things, but apps have been re-opened now for over a week. Sure would be nice to have some new folks around. Especially since finding RP can be difficult.

When there are four open self-checkouts and someone gets in line behind you instead and hovers anxiously while you scan and bag three bags worth of groceries. Why would you not go to one of the free checkouts?

I'm in the party that players shouldn't be able to advance their chars for doing things for others. It is mildly annoying because they are getting oodles of XP when it doesn't have to do with their char.

It's a fair perspective. How do you propose to encourage a game-culture of doing things for other people, if you're not interested in incentives?

It's also not exactly unreasonable. Other people can get xp for STing too. It's not like it's restricted to one person. And the person STing is taking time out that they could otherwise be using to be in a scene themselves. So it's not an unfair system.

To me, this always sounds like ' I wan the same thing but I don't wanna have to do the other thing' which may or may not be true, mind. It's just how it always ends up sounding.

TR's PrP policy where players and STers received the same amount for PrPs is a good example. It encouraged people to sit around and wait for other people to run plots, which take a lot more effort than simply being in the a scene, and never give anything back.

I fully support a small incentive simply because it /is/ a lot of work to run things. That said, I don't think people should necessarily get perks from simply /attending/.

We give a small XP bonus for players who run a plot. This is because running plots is difficult, requires a lot more work and time than regular RP, and have a significant benefit to the game. In my head I don't think of it as an incentive more as just a present for doing a nice thing for the game, but practically it's certainly an incentive.

      This, right here.

I had the pause in it. The pause didn't matter. It just treated the whole install as one huge blob of text, no hard returns in it at all, no matter what adjustments I did (short of going through notepad and manually adding linebreaks; which I did in Notepad++ and it still copy/pasted, as a test, as one giant blob).

      @Thisnameistaken
A good friend of mine on MUS*H used the same version he installed on his game, which he had no problems with it.

EDIT: I pastebinned it and lo and behold, it pasted with the spacing. Try copying this and throwing it in?

I am also having this problem. I've tried the same things and even used the script and muxify to break it up and it's still a no-go. Do you know how your trusted person got it working?

    • RE: Storytelling
      1. It moves along. There is nothing more frustrating than waiting an hour between poses because each player is taking 20 minutes to pose. If players are too preoccupied to pay attention to the prp, they should not join the prp. If it's the STer taking an hour, then perhaps it's time for a new STer.

      2. Players engage the plot (are proactive in exploring, trying things, interacting with others). None of that player hanging in the background not posing until something happens where they can be a badass (or up and DCing/leaving if they don't get a chance to show off).

      3. Smaller. After 4-5 people, things start to get too chaotic to focus on properly. A 16 person combat scene is a nightmare waiting to happen.

      4. STer versatility. I've been known to catch STers off guard at times (Sorry about your gryphon @arkandel). I've been caught off guard by players, myself. The bests prps are when the STer, be it myself or others, can roll with it, even play off of it.

      5. It doesn't have to be combat. Combat can be fun but most of the time it slams a scene to a halt as dice are thrown (or maybe doesn't even start for an hour because someone wants to cast 10 powers before the scene even /starts/). The best plots I've seen have been ones that focus on other obstacles (puzzles, non-traditional combat such swarms Ihateswarms, social aspects, mental aspects, characters weaknesses or backgrounds being played on, etc) rather than just 'oh hey, it's another monster, let's attack it'.

I can think of a lot more, but those are some of the biggies for me.

    • RE: Ground Zero - Help Needed!

@Wizz Slowly but surely. Grid's halfway desced. Basic code is up and just working our way through chargen and the like (thank you @GentlemanJack for the help!). Had a glitch with the wiki but hoping to have that up in the next week or so. We're loosely aiming for July but we haven't set an official date yet. Soon! I'll be updating here as soon as the wiki's up and running.

Atomic Highway looks interesting, I'll have to take a look at it. I do love me some post-apoc gameage.

    • RE: Sexual themes in roleplay

I keep my wikis pg13, myself, but it's been my experience that most people do. I've seen a lot of scantily clad pictures, but nothing I'd say was outright NSFW on a main wiki page. I have, however, seen some folks who make a link that redirects to a second wiki with NSFW content, which is cool (and I generally click for scientific reasons). That said, I've only played on a handful of mushes.

I also get the 'use pictures that fit the char' argument. If I'm playing a grizzled homeless man, I'm not going to use pictures of my PB while he's clean-shaven and wearing a suit. If I play a character who is conservative 90% of the time but a wild, promiscuous character the other 10%, I will likely use conservative pictures simply because that's what the majority see/what the general first impression will be.

That said, there have been a few times that /logs/ have surprised me. Reading through, catching up on some metaplot stuff, and suddenly boom, oral sex. That does make me a bit uncomfortable. I have nothing against TS (I partake every now and then myself) but I do not really want to read other peoples' when I'm skimming through logs specifically connected to a metaplot.
