RE: What's missing in MUSHdom?
@nightshade There are plenty of games that aren't Arx. It might be nice to have multiple games, but with skilled and interested coders and weavers of story dropping out of the hobby like flies owing to reality stepping in, it's not something we can really demand.
This is Mildly Constructive, and you're acting like a petulant child. "I demand this, I want that." You've offered your ideas, and others have disagreed with you, or asked for further explanation. Present your ideas without getting defensive and abrasive and you may be taken more seriously.

RE: Things We Should Have Learned Sooner
@Auspice Fuck you, I love polenta. It's great for when you need to mulch a small garden space.

RE: A theme-less, CGen-less game
I also don't care.
Though I do love poking at things so... my first question would be "why?"

Here's the thing with that, and this will be an unpopular stance -- accusations are not evidence.
While I agree that this is true, we're talking about a job rather than a criminal prosecution. If there are enough - whatever enough means - accusations of misconduct then perhaps it's worth considering letting the accused go. You're not locking them away, or revoking some freedom or right, you're firing them.
Though I am curious about what kinds of proactive steps you think one could take against random sexual harassment. How does one protect themselves from a normal conversation turning into one of sexual demand or manipulation, or indeed random sexually inappropriate messages? Sure, they can block the person after it happens, but that doesn't stop it from having happened.
ETA: I would also add that though many systems may be available to capture evidence, there are as many systems available to falsify that evidence. If you're going to rely on evidence alone, it will just be he said she said. Especially if the accusations stem from places outside of your control.

Running a game where things have an expiration date
I definitely wish more games did this. In a way that people were definitely aware of such an expiration, of course.

RE: RL Anger
@Aria There really needs to be a more specific word for that kind of privilege. I'm certainly not saying you're wrong, of course, but to the uninitiated privilege is something for rich people that get handed everything and literally do not have to work for it. So to hear that they have some kind of privilege is most definitely insulting.
Sure, they are getting handed something that means they don't need to work to the same level as people without it, but it's an intangible thing and people are really hard at grasping intangible concepts.

RE: The OOC Masquerade ?
I don't care if people know my character is a vampire. I do care if people know his stats at a whim. I like some secrets, and don't care about others. Goodness knows why.

If you use a compulsory cargo running system, you will be lynched.

RE: RL Anger
@Arkandel This 'analysis' brought to you by Dragon Age: Inquisition
Blackwall: Dorian, I can't believe you drank that swill at the tavern.
Dorian: I can't believe they served that swill at the tavern. What is Skyhold coming to?
Blackwall: Then why did you drink it?
Dorian: I couldn't stop. With each sip, it was, "it can't be that bad, can it?" Before I knew it, I was analyzing the nuances of its flavor, observing its effect on my nausea. I was in a catatonic trance, fueled by the stench of disgusting dwarven ale.
Blackwall: Or you're a drunkard with terrible taste.
Dorian: There is that.Edited to add:
What I mean by this is that it seems to be a rather... intrinsic thing with most media is that people will always consume something. Even if it's 'terrible.' We MUers are much the same, we'll play (nearly) anything so long as it exists. Make it and they will come, good or bad. -

But more importantly the collective playerbase focuses on negative feedback
I'd say humanity generally does. "Man owned gun without incident today" doesn't sell papers. Or whatever the kids are using to get their news now.

@three-eyed-crow Oh that's easy, he'd say "did they pay for their copy? Good. They're wrong." Regardless of who it was.

RE: Active Games?
@derp said in Active Games?:
but a lot of us old players are just so set in our ways that we don't really think about how it might change for newer generations versus what we're used to seeing in that situation.
That's because OUR WAY IS BEST WAY. Youth today have it so easy with their logs and their wiki pages and their sex games. Back in our day we had to work out if a game was active by DIALING IN and waiting for the text to load line by line...

RE: Social Stats in the World of Darkness
Unfortunately, whether we get rid of social stats or not, there will always be people that refuse to have their characters be intimidated, manipulated, or otherwise have some agency removed therefrom. The idea that players have exclusive and supreme agency over their characters is something that many people take to an extreme, so any eventuality that would cause them to feel a loss of agency will end poorly.

Didn't I also suggest that it might be more expedient for us to approach these disputes, frustrations, and misunderstandings at the interpersonal level,
I've always felt, in the deep dead crevices of my cold heart, that dice rolls are extra especially needed for times when players don't agree with how a thing happens. So, realistically, that is an eventuality that must be accounted for.
