A book is markedly different to a television show. One can imagine, or not imagine, a situation happening. A television show forces that confrontation - which can be dangerous.

RE: RL Anger
@auspice Yeah... it's problematic.
I'm not at all saying that it is totally without merits. There needs to be a big damned provso, that's all.

RE: RL Anger
@surreality I would argue that it is much more important for neurotypicals (for that is, apparently, the term) to watch than any age. Adults being preferable, naturally.
My only, and I will repeat only, issue with the series is that it is somewhat too real for those of us, like yourself as admitted, that suffer from disorders that cause us to view reality as more of a guide than an actual rule. The first season was rife with controversy, at least in Australia, due to the very nature of the topics it ventures into - without a warning that such topics will be discussed.

run through the chest with a shadow tentacle
Are you trying foreplay again?
I told you that's not how it works. -
RE: RL Anger
@surreality 'You are not alone' is fine and dandy.
'You are not alone and also see how fucked up shit gets for other people' is not tactful. You and I evidently have differing levels of acceptability when it comes to exposure to such harshness. I couldn't stand even the premise of the show, much less the execution.
But please, don't disregard my animosity towards it as simple snark. Snark is supposed to be occasionally funny. This show? This show has caused actual problems for people.

RE: RL Anger
@arkandel I'm fully prepared to agree that the whole series is valuable.
I am not, however, at all prepared to state such without big goddamn caveats.
-
RE: RL Anger
@surreality Oh. I know.
I'm a member of the 'not quite right in the head' club.Yes, these things need attention. Yes, a strangely popular show is perhaps the way to do things.
It also needs to be handled delicately. The people that need to see these things are not the people that suffer and experience these things. And yet, at least out here, that is to whom it is advertised.

RE: RL Anger
@surreality We can disagree about whether the entirety is horrid, certainly. But I believe we can agree that some things I have mentioned need to be... reflected upon sensibly in its third season.

RE: RL Anger
@surreality It's not a snark routine. That you find it helpful is great. That so many find it unhelpful to the point of actually causing problems is not great.
Given that not one but two rapes of young girls occurs, and a scene of actual suicide appears on screen (except in Australia) is evidence enough for me that it is not great.
It's fine for you, well done. It's not fine for everyone.

RE: RL Anger
@surreality Well yes, given that those terms are subjective. And you're wrong.
-
RE: RL Anger
@surreality It's also fuckin' terrible. Allegedly they went against every piece of advice from psychologists and therapists when making said series.

RE: Vampyr
Are the named ones meant to be tougher?
If they've got health on the bottom of the screen, yes. Else they usually have something interesting on their corpse/dialogue if you manage to sneak up on them.
Are Ultimates worth it?
YMMV. I like Rage, but that's because it's very much a 'fuck you, I'm a fuckmothering Vampire' power.

RE: Vampyr
@insomnia "Can I shoot it? Can I stab it? Can I hit it with my claws?" If no, dissolve into shadow and gtfo.

RE: Vampyr
I do love some of the comments on Reddit saying things like "the rain shouldn't be happening all the time, like it just feels like one super long night it's not realistic."
Clearly they've never actually lived in London.
ETA: If I ever make my planned Victorian pseudo-London Vampire game, it's going to have a weather system that just emits various intensities of rain at all times.
-
RE: Vampyr
Yeah, I just read up on it.
I don't understand why I need to go through that rigmarole given that it's raining 99.999% of the time and there's a ledge right there. It's apparently an easter egg relating to Life is Strange.
-
RE: Vampyr
@insomnia I never bothered with it. I think it might just be an atmosphere thing... I don't know.
ETA: I'm a goddamn lord of the night, I don't have time to deal with plants. But I will go around healing every Tom, Dick, and Harriet of their fatigue and their headaches.

RE: Vampyr
Where do I get the cure for headaches
***Map***
click to showAround there, the Old Whitechapel Road gate to the cemetery (I had to go through Whitechapel, rather than through the cemetery itself.) There is a crater with a corpse in it, loot that for the diagram thingo you have to analyse.

RE: Vampyr
Also, do we ever learn to pick locks?
No. Certain areas open with the story, certain areas open with keys dropped by people you kill.
So chests and such you have to kill people to get into them then?
I believe so. I'll know for sure when/if I do a 'kill everybody' run.

RE: Vampyr
@insomnia Oh, that wasn't a reply per se to your Vamp-status post. Just a word of advice when it comes to using mesmerise and such. Tiny details written on notes can be vitally important depending on how you play.
As for who knows and who doesn't, like I said some of the dialogue seems screwy. I can't tell if people are supposed to know, if they're just guessing, if they read too many penny bloods, or what. But I don't recall very many cases of Doctor Bloodsworth mentioning it to as many people as seem to know.
