I see a lot of things as, would be a cool optional thing that would be fun, but also don't wanna force a particular playstyle down anyone's throats.

The... 'problem' with many of those ideas is that if a person gains an advantage through such a system, it ceases to be optional. It becomes mandatory for everyone, not just those that find it fun.

@HelloProject The most important part, in my player-side view, of any system is that players need to want to engage with it. If 99.99% of the playerbase can get by without it, they will if it means avoiding learning something new.

@HelloProject To answer your question in the most... generalised way possible: A domain system is any feature set that manipulates territory to acquire resources. Be that actual mining and the like, or influence, blood/essence/whatever. How you'd go about making it would depend on what exactly you want the territory to look like, who you'd want to have access to it, and what resources are worth the investment in aquiring.

@Ominous Why code when you can just decide to let your favourites wi... I mean. Be better able to take into account the subtle intricacies and machinations of such things.

@HelloProject Given how long it has been since Firan, you're going to have a time trying to find anyone that remembers anything beyond the words 'domain system'. Presumably, it was about resources in various territories and income and those sorts of things.

Firan did not have a domain system or anything similar.

Didn't it have something to do with the various kingdoms and territory? I can't remember if that was implemented or just talked about.

edit: Speaking of, can anyone explain how, conceptually, domain systems are supposed to work in these games?

"Domain system" is so vague a term as to be useless without context.

@Ominous Oh sure, Firan was basically code with players around it rather than the other way around.

So it'd depend on what exactly you wanted to do. I can't imagine the amount of maintenance that sheer amount of code would have needed.

A lot of the more generally useful stuff from Firan is in Arx, I believe. I'm having trouble thinking of anything that Firan may have pioneered that hasn't been adapted by others over time.

Witness #568 says, "I saw him having sex with a prostitute two years ago."
Witness #569 says, "I saw him having sex with the same prostitute ten minutes later."

The prostitute in question being either dead-through-old-age, exiled, sacrificed, a level (or tier, or whatever it was) IV that was made simply to fuq), or now a general.

And only ever getting witnesses to events that happened five goddamn years ago while you're running a criminal investig... anyway. Yes.

@Aria I'm so sorry. I take it the C stands for Combat?

Complex. Usually indicates PTSD that brings about or worsens other mental conditions.

ETA: C-PTSD usually occurs from repeated or prolonged trauma, rather than the 'simple' PTSD that can occur from a single traumatic event.

I hate having to play What's That Smell in the fridge. Its fucking clean! And still I am having to play this game while also home sick. I guess it means its not with the coronavirus, so that is good on balance.

I had to play that game, but in my spare (read: storage) room. I cleaned it entirely out and it still smelt... turns out there was something very dead in the wall. No idea how it got there.

@GangOfDolls Hey, you might be living in a simulation right now.

They need to fix the customization options though and the grind is brutal. Maybe the next patch will fix it.

I keep trying to attach Cheat Engine to the process so I can edit my stats, but no dice. Or die.
