RE: General Video Game Thread
@prototart Ooooooo... I wonder if I could get the 360 version through the store on my Xbox One! That would save me having to hunt down a physical copy for the PS2.

RE: The Work Thread
I think there are certain families and households that need the ability to work/school remote. I also think there are certain families and households that need the ability to be on location for work/school. And I feel like there should be some means of compromising towards a solution for both. NO solution is going to be perfect. There will always be someone who gets left behind or screwed over or whatever. It's going to happen. But by either side ignoring the needs of the other, we're causing more problems than we're solving.
Me and mine are high risk, and it's been shown that the vaccine isn't completely effective from preventing contracting COVID. With the high rates of contraction right now, me and mine need the ability to work/school from home to safeguard our own health. Both physical and mental. Others need to be able to be on location for their health, physical or mental or both.
There NEEDS to be compromise in there. Somewhere.

@Insomnia Oh yeah, no, the tests are insane. But just jump in the truck with her after and go take down an outpost, you'll see what I mean. and yeah, I would imagine maybe you're missing your dog a little, and that's okay! No, Horatio won't get in the truck, but he DOES do that 'magical teleport to wherever you're at' thing to make him show up when you reach a destination.

RE: RL Anger
Ehhhhhh. That -- really depends on what we're talking about when we say 'kids'.
A teacher letting a kid think it's ok to exclude someone because they don't believe in the same invisible man as you is about the most fertile ground for future bigotry I can think of.
Especially if these are very young kids.
If their parents want them to believe that strongly in whatever, private religious schools are an option, and they can pay to have their child go to the super elite place where they can solely be around their own people.
Nopenopenopenopenope. Separation of church and state. I FULLY support teachers opting out of religious conversations with their students. It is not their job to be a student's religious leader. I could have wished that the teacher might have given @Wizz 's child some more one on one support to help them come to terms with it? But no, I will NEVER support teachers having to also make decisions on religious matters.

RE: The Work Thread
@roz I believe the studies showing that are also the ones showing that people need less vacation time as performance-based benchmarks place much less stress and expectation on the employee, so they no longer feel they need as many 'mental health days' or 'staycations' just to recuperate from daily job stressors.
It would not work for all industries, but for those it does work for? People are less stressed, less depressed, complete work with higher ratings across the board, and tend to get better reviews on their performance. There's less pressure to do X,Y,Z in the next 2 hours OR ELSE. No more having your boss throw you under the bus to finish a report in 10 minutes that they've been sitting on for three days. As long as you hit your benchmarks? You get your salary, and nobody can give you shit if you took two days to deal with a sinus infection. Or your sister is giving birth RIGHT NOW and really wants you there with her. Or you need to work from Butte, Montana for a month to help nurse your mother through an illness. And hey, if you want to take a vacation and just go sit on a beach somewhere? Long as your stuff is done, go jump that plane!

@Ganymede It would only be WoD if the age part were reversed. People in their 40s and 50s using PB's in their 20s.

RE: New World
I've been enjoying it, though the lack of warning that you're entering an area FAR above your level is a bit aggravating.

RE: SerenityMUSH - Discussion
@SerenityMush A reboot doesn't require MUSH code, just a pull of the story back to 0. New characters, new plots. Basically... wiping out all the 'dinosaurs' that are still benefiting from whatever went on during the original run that new characters no longer have access to. Putting everyone on an even playing field, so to speak.

RE: New Animal Crossing New Horizons Content - Who's Hyped?
HYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYPE!
Like many people, I started playing ACNH at the start of the pandemic, when we were all stuck at home anyways. I dropped off after it seemed like I was down to grinding out for items and such. So this is looking awesome.

RE: A healthy game culture
@tinuviel The only problem comes in that we've seen what happens when staff play the games they staff, too. HM, The Reach, Fallcoast. How many times did a rule get changed, erased, retconned, etc. because it would adversely affect head staff's characters and/or their friends' characters? It wasn't even subtle. Remember when Sonder stated flat out that it was her game and she was going to do what she wanted to do and would absolutely play favorites?
And then there's the people like Spider, who get their friends to become staff and manipulate things from behind the curtain in their favor. So she couldn't staff Mage, but she could install someone she could manipulate. Every sphere at one point or another saw corruption from within. Rules changed to benefit self or others with zero regard to theme, logic, or sanity.
I definitely agree that there needs to be open lines of communication, there needs to be feedback received. But that is the worst way to go about it. No offense, but I've seen far, far less corruption and fuckery from Arx, where staff are restricted to NPC's than to ANY game where staff was allowed to play their own PC's.

I have to second Guild Wars 2 (which was mentioned either here or somewhere else, I don't recall). It's a lot of fun, it's updated often, the basic game is free so can be tried for no cost, and most amazingly of all, the other players are incredibly helpful. I can't think of a single troll that I've encountered.
That was probably me. I love to praise GW2 up and down every chance I get. XD I will say that I do see trolls (usually in the hub cities) but they don't last long. They get laughed and mocked and flagged VERY quickly. Guild Wars mods don't fuck around when it comes to trolls/racism/sexism/etc. Its been a pure pleasure to play the game for the last 9 years.

RE: Real World Peeves, Disgruntlement, and Irks.
@ganymede A lot of women have a poor understanding of how the female body works. Bible Belt sucks for having an extra level of 'your body is sinful and you should do everything you can to never acknowledge it', but it's bad everywhere.

RE: A healthy game culture
@tinuviel It works for if you just don't want to be bothered, too. People set themselves IC Only all the time simply because they don't want to be pestered in pages. Or watch/hide. I had a friend set herself IC Only because she was in an important event and didn't want to be getting paged by a dozen different people. She then promptly forgot she had it on for the better part of the week, until she pinged me in Discord about how quiet it had been and I asked if she'd ever taken the IC Only tag off from her event. We had a laugh, she set herself back to 'normal', no harm no foul.
And nobody is saying 'everyone should do it this way because this is how Arx does it'. Arx developed these measures based on response they received from players and to combat situations that kept cropping up with some of the now banned players. It evolved out of the culture of the game. Another game may not have code support for some of these features, or may find they don't need some or all of them. It was just pointing out that all the issues that so many of those WoD games suffered... Arx has been addressing. It's not perfect, but it's forward movement. Absolutely find a game that does for you what you want.

RE: General Video Game Thread
@roz In general, I would agree with you! I like having variety in my game developers, it means that I'm not just playing the same three games over and over again (no matter what my Steam library says). But I have to say that of all the huge takeovers/buyouts/mergers that have been going on lately (Disney comes to mind), Microsoft is the one that bothers me the least. They aren't interested in changing the path of a development company, they mostly seem to be trying to buy up broken companies that have lost all credibility with their audience and making things better.
Granted, Activision/Blizzard is a BIG buy. But given that Microsoft itself doesn't have any really BIG heavy-hitter developers already on the payroll, I would say this is more them starting to really step out onto the field. Game Pass is great, but it in and of itself does not create games, it just provides a platform through which you can cross-platform between Xbox and PC.
Now, if in a few years, there's talk of Microsoft acquiring Square Enix or Bungie or Ubisoft? Then I might start to side eye things a little more. I think this particular one will get a standard investigation, but I don't see it being some huge deal. Hell, I was more suspicious when Disney acquired Marvel, Fox, and a chunk of Sony within a span of like... 6 years.
