Man I don't even own Reno anymore. But I do love being an inspiration for great ideas, so I'll take it!

RE: Selecting a system to play
The Beaten Down system usually only applies to mortals though. Kindred, Demons, and DEFINITELY Uratha will straight kill a fool, sometimes against their own better judgment and desires.

RE: Pick Your Poison: A Chronicle of Darkness Interest Check
Bumps in the Night - Chronicle of Darkness for Hunter: the Vigil
There are more things in the shadowy places, in the dark corners and locked closets of the world than anyone wishes to know.
But sometimes, we look, we find them. The dead pet that curls at the foot of your bed. The lost child with black eyes. The hook handed urban legend. The cannibal cult. The murderous doll. The ghost of the murdered girl.
All of them are real. And they are all out there, waiting for you in the night.
Set in an as-yet-undecided region of the United States, Bumps in the Night is a Horror chonicle in which the players take on the role of protagonist hunters, making a stand against the darkness. The Cheerleader who escaped the Murder Camp. The Medical Examiner who asked too many questions. The Hacker who found a dark secret. The librarian who translated a dark tome. These are the heroes of the story, but the world is a dark, dangerous place, full of horrors.
On Bumps in the Night, we look to balance both Monster of the Week stories, where cells of Hunters face off against threats ranging from a solitary murder-golem to a pack of ghost hounds, to longer term horror stories involving an entire town under the thrall of an otherworldly insect-queen and a cruel wizard from beyond time and space who is collecting the souls of the innocent for a massive ritual.
The world of BITN is a violent, dangerous and scary world, but one where you can make a difference. If you dare.

It'd be less bad if that jackass kid would get killed off already, UGH. I want him to get eaten so bad. But then I fear he'll get taken to be the new body of the Master and then we'll have a terrible child actor wearing the most amazingly goofy mask in the world. O The Strain.

Impressive work by the casting department finding an even MORE unlikable kid. -
RE: A General Apology from the Guy Who Was Ashur
Sexism is bad. But when a bunch of girls are engaged in high schoolish drama, the comparison to Mean Girls, a film about high school girls involved in drama, isn't exactly evil.

RE: RenoMUSH - The Biggest Little Game on the Net
For those wondering why I am actually bothering posting an ad, well, to promote our upcoming Season 1 of Requiem storyline!
Coming Soon: Requiem Season 1 - A House Divided
In the next week or so, we will be beginning our first "Season" on RenoMUSH. A Season is a spherewide plot designed to impact the game and provide RP opportunities for the entire sphere, but also not last indefinitely.
Our first Season will be for Vampire, and is entitled "A House Divided".
For four score years, the Kindred of Reno have been ruled, loosely, by an elected body - the Midnight Senate. This group has gone through changes three times, peaceful elections every 25 years.
Not even for the immortal Kindred, however, can things remain unchanged forever.
Tensions among the seven active Senators come to a head. A proposed change to Praxis law threatens war. Some of the Kindred of Reno are old enough to recall President Lincoln's paraphrasing of Jesus Christ - A House Divid Against Itself Cannot Stand. But when the Beast cries for vengeance, will the city ever be the same?

RE: Good TV
So impressive how The Strain managed to make vampires scary, but also still sexy!

RE: nWoD Games?
I will say that the massive gap between editions is probably a good thing. Masquerade had a 2nd Edition in a year and Revised within 7 or so. Requiem went from 04-13 with a single edition.

RE: RenoMUSH - The Biggest Little Game on the Net
Yeah, I didn't do everything perfect. I admit that, I always have. Myself and the people I worked with built what we hoped to be a fun game. We're working to make a place that is fun to play on. I even had a scene this year myself, so there's that.

RE: RL Anger
In her defense, she is in therapy! I spent pretty much all of July holding out hope. But I am too awesome for that.

RE: How hard should staff enforce theme?
I have altered the scope of the theme. Pray I do not alter it further.

RE: RL Anger
Apparently a friend of mine just got engaged to his girlfriend. And I want to be happy for him but their combined age is under 40 and he isn't even 21. I don't know wtf to say.

RE: Coming in 2016 - Bump in the Night
To maintain interest, I am going to steal a page from Onyx Path and post some development insights and even some content that will be upcoming. I am not going to start a new thread for it. But hey, feedback is nice! So here we go, some raw, unedited as of yet news files.
NEWS STATS
On BITN, players are expected to represent the character that exists on their character sheet to the best of their ability. This includes both their strengths AND their weaknesses. If your character has a low Stamina, do not pose them performing extreme acts of endurance. If they have a low Intelligence and/or Academics, they probably do not have a grasp on literary quotes. Characters with poor Presence and Manipulation are unlikely to be the darlings of the social scene. Roleplay accordingly.
NEWS FAKE IT
On the opposite end of the spectrum from people ignoring your characters flaws, you should not need to possess every stat your character does. It is perfectly acceptable to fudge reality. If you want to play a doctor, you should not be penalized by a lack of OOC knowledge. Any time a character in a scene wants to fake it, they may declare so OOC and make an appropriate roll. People should endeavor to try and take the results of the roll into the pose. This is not meant to bypass RP, just allow a little fudging of reality. If the Doctor character wants to throw in some medical jargon, don't bite their head off it isn't real world accurate.

Shit, and here I am without Keira Knightly.

RE: Coming in 2016 - Bump in the Night
It was absolutely accidental.
MOVING ON.
Themes
More things on heaven and earth
The world is large, both physically and metaphysically. Outside of normal perception lies a Twilight state where incorporeal things exist. A thin Gauntlet seperates a Shadow of spirit existence from the "real". Hidden places exist where they cannot. And in all of these strange areas lurk horrors. There is no end to the unusual and the strange on Bump in the Night. The supernatural is not easily understood or classified, and the things that lurk are not inherently static.
Player vs Environment
Primarily, the overall goal of BITN is to have players taking the fight to, or perhaps just trying to survive against, supernatural terrors. Hunting monsters. Investigating ghosts. Maybe bargaining with a devil. But in general, the antagonists on BITN are non-player characters. This does not mean that PCs cannot clash, or even come to blows, but that is NOT our focus here.
The Mortal Coil
If you kick wolfman in the nards, beware the consequences. The world of BITN is one where the supernatural exists, and it can and will kill you. Characters may die and if they do, this is not because you are a bad person. It just means the night got a little darker. Not all plots can and should result in significant injury, but never take the monsters lightly.
Action! Excitement! Intrigue!
We aim to have active PCs doing things. STed scenes should be frequent and easy to engage in. While ther is nothing wrong with more mundane, relaxed RP, it is the goal of BITN to provide frequent opportunities to Do Something. Break into a museum to steal that talisman. Track down that ghost bear. Run from the killer clown through the forest. Scenes should be happening as often as possible, but should also have variety. Not every action sequence is a fight. There is room for chases and tense sequences of hiding and stealth. There can be occult adventures, negotiations with human-looking monsters and more.

RE: Good TV
I won't lie to you and say it is a good show. But the final season of Hemlock Grove is now available on Netflix.
