@arkandel Nostalgia certainly would play a part too.. but also people that would rather focus their time with the effort of running a game in stead of spending months trying to get a game to run.

RE: Game Restarts
@arkandel From a practical stand point I would think restarting is a lot less effort if you've got the code, grid, etc already built and ready to go.

RE: Game Restarts
@thenomain it was a sort of expected thing so the dinos weren't really able to complain too much. It was An RP MUD and the dinos were able to grind their way to about 90/95% of the way back to where they were pretty quick anyways code wise... but it also largely opened up leadership spots and stuff that everyone could try for.

RE: Game Restarts
I've been through two restarts and both were pretty successful. The first one was the games way of dealing with dinosaurs, every so many years there would be a reset and start from scratch.
The second one wasn't intentional. Some asshat hacked the game server, deleted the database and any backups they could find. The code survived because it was managed by version control software elsewhere... so we rolled up new and more or less started over.

If I may offer another suggestion.. have some preconfigured kits/builds that people can choose from at chargen
I really like this idea. It might even be something that's done wiki-side rather than code-side, at least at first. A couple of experienced Saga players could create some generic "Republic soldier," "Republic pilot," "Mandalorian Rifleman," "Smuggler," and "Jedi Padawan" builds, and then the commands to create them in chargen could be listed on the wiki. Sure, it would be a slightly-long list, but it would allow players to create basic characters without digging into the books much. I would be -happy- to contribute to such a project.
I was literally just typing this out. Copy and paste the commands in, done.

If I may offer another suggestion.. have some preconfigured kits/builds that people can choose from at chargen if they aren't that familiar with Saga since there is a steep learning curve to figuring out how it all pieces together.
I tried to play on a Saga game once and when I asked for help in figuring how out to build a character an awesome player sent me a googledoc spreadsheet they had custom made for me that had three seperate builds from 1st to max level... It was amazing and awesome.. but also overwhelming.

RE: Star Wars?
@mr-johnson it really depends on what sort of game you want. Crunch heavy or not, etc.

RE: Star Wars?
@roz I don't disagree, but didn't want to do the place a dis-service by not mentioning it

RE: Star Wars?
Should say that Age of Alliances does have a small, separate Old Republic grid where force users are allowed and such.

RE: Travel Times - Enforced?
I think it largely depends on how much time you're handwaving. A day? sure. Weeks? Probably not.
As Mercutio said, don't put up barriers between people being able to RP together, but put limits on what people can do. Ideally this can be accomplished in a way that if I have 10 hours to RP in a week I don't have to spend 8 of them waiting in a shuttle to travel, but at the same time limit people for instant teleporting about from scene to scene or making month long journeys around an entire country in the span of a night while everyone else is still RPing about packing for the trip.
