Arx will work for your stated goals.
It is a big game (i think 300+ active players? Usually 100+ on in the EST evenings), so there are a lot of moving pieces and all that. If you don't want to engage in the plot/etc, you don't have to. Drink up, rip bodice, whatever floats your boat.
