Just finished Cyberpunk 2077 on the PS4, Streetkid turned Nomad.

What a buggy, frustrating, incredibly endearing mess.

The quality of the writing was for sure the saving grace. I genuinely felt for the characters and their stories and was really surprised by how sad I was to say goodbye to them.

Now I am left with a terrible gnawing hunger for more 😭

Like I'm on a Moto G6 and here are the steps just to get through one command...

That's basically your entire problem in a nutshell. As much as it sucks for some people who don't have any other means to access them, MU*s were never designed to be played via modern smart phones.

The syntax takes some getting used to on a computer and keyboard, but it's much more efficient for that configuration, which is the standard. You're arguing about efficiency like playing on smartphones is the norm and it just isn't.

But you're right, this subject really does deserve it's own thread rather than hijacking this one.

My only request is please no commands with + @ / = in them.

The syntax is built in to the codebase. The chances of you convincing someone to go through the Herculean and enormously tedious task of stripping all of that out just because you're personally unfamiliar with it are basically nil.

Playing CP2077 has made me want a MU* so, so badly. I am thrilled to see this is still going somewhere.

    • RE: Pondering, Space Trucking, One ship crew small MU?

      @lotherio

Just an honest suggestion, but looking for a playgroup of only about ten people who you expect to pull double duty as storytellers on a single-crew ship is probably a call I'd put out among friends, rather than opening to the public and complete strangers.

That kinda seems like a recipe for some bizarre dynamics at least and disaster at worst.

If this were a truly public game, IMO you'd be better off coordinating multiple ships so that at least people could have some space to find a group that suits their timezone, playstyle, personalities, etc.

Maybe mandate that each new ship is obligated to have at least one primary storyteller and one backup, if they can't manage/don't want to Round Robin it.

I'm limiting FS(as in not having them) for the entirely selfish reason that I'm not interested in dealing with that aspect. It's just not something I'm looking to run.

Literally the only reason you need. It's not selfish, it's just not the kind of stories you want to tell. 👍

The Force really probably isn't going to happen. Unless it's dealing with some NPC for a bit. I'm open to evolving as time goes on, but I'm really not a huge fan of one or two people getting to play an awesome role with very limited slots.

Just out of curiosity, why limit Force slots that way at all? People love to play Jedi, but that's not the only reason to Star Wars by a very long shot. I'm sure you'd see a pretty diverse cast regardless. Maybe limit Force Users to one per account if you really wanted to maintain some sense of proportion, but otherwise just say the number of non-FU NPCs is simply higher and PCs are the exception.

Not that Force PCs would be a dealbreaker for me personally either way, I love the idea of playing a plucky cell against the Empire. Star Wars: Rebels has given me such a hankering for it 😭

Why doesn't someone pick a broad themebase off a cartoon or common line of action figures, then take a private poll of themes they want, recruit one staffer per theme, and implement each staffer's opinion of the theme goal?

Something Subgenius, use the arbitrary nature of an early system to your advantage.

Just slap a new coat of paint on a copy of Arx for Helladies and Hellords. Call it Hell-Arx, or Hlarx for short.

I would personally wanna make combat a little crunchier, but honestly every other system would fit that kinda game really, really well imho.

Atomic Highway/V6 System has been sitting on my shelf for a long time, as one of those games that I'd potentially like to see how it worked out. System and setting. I ❤ a good Mad Max setting. 🙂

I loooove Atomic Highway! I've tried to float it here as a MU* a few times over the years... in that extremely lazy way where I just babble about it enthusiastically and hope someone else will do all the work. 🤣

But really, the base systems are super easy to grok, mutations are super fun to roll and strike that sweet spot of unique, amusing and actually useful, and the scavenging and vehicles systems seem like they would flow very well in this format.

A low-magic, low-tech fantasy game where people play entire clans rather than just specific individual PCs. Like, your account as a player is "the Lowland Clan of the Raven" or whatever, and the metagame is about managing your assets and resources and politicking with the other clans.

You can at any time roll up a character bit that is a member of your clan for specific scenes that have different areas of expertise, like trials by combat or philosophical/religious debates at clan gatherings or whatever, and can grant other players permission to puppet these individual bits whenever you want if you just want to run internal plots -- but your focus as a player is on the clan as a whole and its survival, and all of your action points/game resources revolve around the impact of your clan on the story.

IT WILL NEVER HAPPEN BUT I WANT IT OK

      Man.

The Boys season finale, what a ride.

      I really enjoyed it, but

      ***Plot Hole Ahoy***

      click to show

How the hell did Maeve get from Vought Tower to the cabin in Rochester right behind Stormfront? It's been established that Maeve can't fly and she's not like, super fast either? She literally just teleports the 340-odd miles to save everyone's asses with no explanation.

It takes them a long time to set all that stuff up.

      ***Plot Hole Ahoy***

      click to show

She probably had a change of heart a long time before she shows up; it just took her a while to do so.

Or maybe she got A-Train to run her over.

      ***BUT BUT BUTTS***

      click to show

I actually don't mind her character motivation changing. She was like "the world sucks and nothing gets better and I'm tired" but then learns Stormfront is a Nazi and decides "fuck it, fuck Nazis" and I think literally all of us can get behind that.

But the order of events is:

      1. Hughie and Starlight release the Church files on Stormfront before leaving to Rochester, knowing it will maybe take a few hours to break.

      2. They get to Rochester, set up the Vought sonic emitters and wait for Stormfront to freak out and blast off, then hit the emitters to pull Homelander out into the woods.

3a. GO TIME, snag the kid and make a break for it while Butcher double-crosses Edgar at the last second, coincidentally buying them a little time while Homelander deals with the security team.

3b. MEANWHILE, Stormfront is at Vought Tower freaking out over the leak. Maeve is ALSO at the Tower, sees her there and sees her reaction and presumably realizes it's the truth, decides to beat the shit out of her because Fuck Nazis.

      1. Stormfront rockets back and discovers the rendezvous point, where Butcher is sending MM, Becca and the kid off before Homelander and/or Edgar can retaliate so it has clearly only been a few minutes. She starts taking everyone down.

Here's where it fell apart: Maeve is only MINUTES behind her. How did she get there so fast? If she somehow managed to convince A-Train to A) tip his hand when he wanted zero exposure and B) ...I dunno, follow Stormfront?? SOMEHOW?? How in the world did she know where she went???

At the very least I'd expect to see some shot of A-Train like, darting behind the trees or some shit. As it stands, there's literally no explanation as to how Maeve knew where to go and how she got there just in the knick of time. Again, Rochester and NYC are about 340 miles apart, it is not a hop skip and/or jump.
