I've had very mild-to-moderate tinnitus since childhood and I was sincerely dreading it getting worse as I get older, just a sort of creeping anxiety that hits me sometimes, so that is awesome news. Thank you, and I hope your current treatments help!

@carma
For sure! I'd say the only thing that really requires any sort of permission here is splitting threads. Though beware the catbot @Ganymede, whose wroth is most dire if you make her work. -
RE: MUs That We Would Love To Make (But Won't)
There's a whole subforum dedicated to development threads! Fire away!!

RE: Health and Wealth and GrownUp Stuff
I really don't want to imply that it's just Mormons who are the problem out here, because they really aren't. There are plenty, including my own immediate and extended fam, who have a lot of education on the subject and have been super careful this whole time. For some reason, Utah breeds a super insidious conspiracy theory mentality that just seems...extra common compared to most other states except the deep South and Alaska, lol, regardless of your religion or lack of it.
That said, our biggest problem child is Utah County where people regularly throw incredibly stupid mask protests and huge illicit BYU college parties that both always turn into super spreader events, and...well, most of those peeps are Mormon. ️

RE: Health and Wealth and GrownUp Stuff
It is really, really depressing me that I am basically starting to think I have an ethical and moral obligation to take my son and move out of the country as soon as possible so he can be raised in a place with at least SOME foundation in reality. Like that just sucks.

"I refuse to wear a mask or get the vaccine because I have anecdotes about two or three people wearing masks or getting vaccinated and still getting COVID. Why would I take any preventative measure if it doesn't completely magically 100% work?????? I openly admit that I have done little to no research and seem kind of proud of this for some reason? You can try to provide me with even a basic understanding of medicine and scientific methodology that I very obviously lack but I will just call everything you painstakingly labor to give me 'opinion' and stand by my dumbass mouthbreather ignorance because it childishly eases my anxiety to put my fingers in my ears and go LALALA IT'S NOT REAL IT'S NOT REAL despite being a grown ass adult."
Fuuuuuuuuucking christ why is this EVERYONE IN UTAH I JUST I CAN'T ANYMORE

RE: MUs That We Would Love To Make (But Won't)
I dunno if anyone here is into Dwarf Fortress ( for those that don't know, a mostly ASCII and text game that can be played in strategy mode or also as a roguelike), but for a while I have really enjoyed digging into the modding community because the simulation aspects are so insanely detailed and customizable. You can code up new creatures and fantasy races from basic templates and tweak their physiology down to like, their skeletal structure and different layers of fat and tissue and shit in ways that have real impact on the game -- you can also mess up hilariously like I did, for example, and make a creature whose neck doesn't actually connect to its spine, so when you boot it up in the test arena its head immediately sinks into its chest cavity and it suffocates. Or create a flame creature but forget to make its eyeballs' tissue with enough heat tolerance, so they literally melt out of its head and it goes blind.
I mention this because it seems like -- granted with a lot of sweat and elbow grease -- you could recreate a lot of these fun aspects in Evennia, and have a very detailed world that players could contribute to by learning some pretty basic coding, even making that IC by letting players be wizards or alchemists or whatever that are experimenting with life or death magic.
I want it so baaaad

RE: Good TV
She was addressing Alina's race in an interview - since she was described as a blonde white woman in the books but mixed race in the show - and attributed the lack of diversity to her own shortcomings as a young author when she first wrote the books.
I haven't read the books, so I didn't realize that was a studio change! Huh. It certainly adds a ton more depth to her character that wouldn't have really been there otherwise, and gives us that fun moment I mentioned, so...wow, props to Netflix, and screw the haters!
Also, that the author was pretty new really explains the other minor thing I found kinda cheesy, how pretty much all of the on-screen recurring characters have a romantic pairing or two. It felt so Young Adult Novel, haha!

RE: Good TV
Just finished Shadow and Bone last night and I think for the most part I agree with y'all, it was stellar. Production values especially stood out to me, the special effects were great and the costuming was all awesome (admittedly, I am a huge sucker for the aesthetic of that time period). I do think the last episode's dialogue got pretty clunky and I actually laughed out loud when I wasn't supposed to at a few lines just for the sheer cheese factor--
***=For example***
click to show--but the relationships and motivations all felt real for the most part and there was a lot of chemistry between all the actors on screen.
If I had one real disappointment, it was just a personal peeve about fantasy tropes:

RE: Are there any high fantasy MU*s?
I've been drooling over the idea of a high fantasy game for a while, and I even started working on one a while back revolving around a mercenary company that might still get off the ground some time this year if I can get over some roadblocks in my head re: some setting/design stuff and just...life in general.

RE: Any Sonic games in development?
@squirreltalk said in Any Sonic games in development?:
Again, that's not unique to Sonic. Sonic just somehow got more famous for it.
Because what we're saying is that what's unique isn't that there's a segment of the fandom that consists of "horny man children," it's that they make up a significantly larger percentage of the online presence than they do in other fandoms. That's just the way it's gone down, for whatever reason.
I don't think anybody is saying this to discourage you from pursuing making this game if you really want to (it does sound fun!), we're just saying, be aware there's probably going to be a lot of overlap from that particular corner of the internet and you will need to be very clear on your theme and the standards of behavior you expect from your community.

Hell, honestly? That clip is kinda timid. Quaint, even.
...I mean, that's...all that was, a relatively SFW clip. The entire 360 chapter monstrosity is not hard to find and is pretty graphic. (If, y'know, grammatically horrendous and from what I bothered to read, kinda vanilla considering its protagonist is an anthropomorphic hedgehog fucking his way through a roster of video game characters).
The larger point I think @GreenFlashlight and @Ominous were trying to make though is that the Sonic fandom specifically is pretty legitimately weird, and the people who enjoy the original material entirely without irony or kink in 2021 are in the minority and most of them are also pretty young, whereas I feel pretty comfortable predicting a lot of the people who are both into MU*ing and Sonic are very likely going to be...yeah, interesting is a good choice.

RE: Any Sonic games in development?
My guess/hope is that it'd be based on the comics, which had several insanely complex and dramatic story arcs. (And when I say insane, I mean the batshit variety -- "Sonic literally becoming a king but then deleting his own children from history through time travel shenanigans" batshit insane.)
But a Sonic game of any variety is so niche that I sincerely doubt one is already in the works, just sayin'.

RE: RL things I love
I got the J&J microchip last night!!
It's such a load of anxiety off my shoulders, knowing Bill Gates is looking out for me.
Plus, the side effects are p minimal so far. A little achey, fatigue. The day after the flu poke was much worse, and I don't need a second dose.
It's really, really nice!

RE: MUs That We Would Love To Make (But Won't)
I would love to make a King of the Monsters-style game, where the kaiju are the PCs and they have like, human cults/creepy corporations/both dedicated to them as game resources the players can use. We'd track collateral damage and how much cities have had to pay to rebuild, etc.
Totally goofy but fun.

Chet has a history of coming here when he's off his meds and pretty rapidly unraveling into incoherence.
ETA: I mean, I think we established last time that he is also like, clearly trolling sometimes, but I don't think that and going off his meds are mutually exclusive just going by how bizarre and...Chet he gets.
