    • RE: How to BeipMU: The best MU Client for Windows

I waited way too long to try this out because I procrastinate far too much. I gave up fast on trying to dig into Potato and MUSHClient, not because they're bad or anything, but because I just wasn't getting things intuitively when it came to certain triggers and trying to set stuff up the way I was familiar with.

Aside from a couple minor differences (like how to set an idle timer, which I saw someone mention previously here), BeipMU feels so much like a successor to SimpleMU that it was a much easier transition. In fact, it's made some of the things I liked setting up for display purposes even simpler and I know I'm barely scratching the surface of its functionality.

Having the expanded color palette that's become more commonplace today is nice to finally get to fully experience, the ease of how the links work is convenient, and overall it just looks and runs more smoothly. Wish I hadn't waited so long to finally give it a try, but someone else was discussing it on a game recently and I figured I'd ask a couple questions then finally jump in. After a little trial and error and some digging deeper into helpfiles for one or two things, it's already sent SimpleMU into retirement.

      Nice program!

    • RE: Regarding administration on MSB

Another thing - and this extends far beyond this form of entertainment - it's a lot easier for people to gripe and complain online about something bugging them than it is to praise something they gain enjoyment from.

Take sports, video games, movies , TV shows, news in general. Negativity about something people generally nitpick to death draws more of a reaction, whether in agreement with it or not.

I'm not saying "just be positive and stop whining." In the cases of a few well-known problem players or a game whose staff is running wild in a bad way, drawing attention to it is good so others can at least be informed if they aren't familiar with someone's crap. Things run the risk of being biased with piling on common, but people can often see logs that let them come to their own conclusions

All that said, sometimes a little extra effort to draw attention to a good thing in this medium can also go a long way. Is there a game that just does it right? A few players on a place who are excellent at who they play or are they great storytellers? Maybe we can see more of that once in a while. It might not matter to people who aren't on the same game and it might not lead to a deep discussion, but it doesn't have to.

The Hog Pit is where the entertaining trainwrecks and rubbernecking happens and that's both fun and often cringeworthy, but that's not all that's out there.

    • RE: Reasons why you quit a game...

If I hit a point where I feel I can't trust staff enough to think they won't even screw up simple things, I'm out. Blatant mishandling of situations, openly biased decision-making, and hypocrisy in how they enforce their own rules will get me to that point rapidly.

Other than that, pretty much the only other reason I'd leave a place that isn't related to my own availability is if I'm just not having fun with who I'm playing, or I feel there isn't much else for me to do there. However, I have bailed on places that weren't very active and weren't showing growth as well.

Solutions to the first part should be pretty simple to figure out. There's not much that could have changed in the second part when some of it is related to my own declining interest and motivation, and if a place can't bring in new players it doesn't have much of a future.

And, you can try to exclude it all you like, but the "life got you, you lost interest" reason is a valid one. Not everything is about leaving because shit hit the fan in some way, unless that's all you're really interested in reading about. It's not always about the drama.

Also, why would you NOT want to accept harassment as a reason in this thread? What, exactly, are you trying to limit the reasons to?

@thenomain In a case of "Don't go fuck with a place, guys," I don't think that's the sort of thing that needs to be run by anyone else.

It's been said so often here that it shouldn't raise any eyebrows regardless of what someone thinks about MOD VOICE, who's saying it, what issues someone has with Auspice, or whatever else.

"Don't go fuck with a place" should be universally accepted as fair and just.

@bored By the way, I find this whole thing to be a ridiculously flimsy reason to accuse a moderator of fucking up over.

You disagree with a choice Auspice made. That does not equate to her fucking up.

There were just SO MANY chapters where little to nothing actually happened. I don't know. Maybe Jordan was trying to do subtle world-building in various ways, but far too often things just ended up exceedingly boring and I was almost begging to reach a point where things went somewhere.

    • RE: What would a superhero game need to be/do to bring in a new player base?

@Tempest Part of that problem is it's also a staffer often doing it. Just look at Elsa/Onyx over on BNW/DoJ.

Compound that with people stretching themselves too thin and not really doing more with those characters than playing them once or twice a month, and it sets a bad example. Minor characters being marginally active is one thing, but major characters doing it is especially bad for any place.

The thing to remember here is Spider IS a witch. She's already been tested enough times with the result a clear one.

If it was somebody with no history of asshattery yet, that's a much different story.

@Ninjakitten said in How to BeipMU: The best MU Client for Windows:

@Wolfs If you leave the image window open, it will stay where you leave it. If you close it, it reopens in the default spot at the top because it no longer has a position when it stops existing.

For an input window, just pop up to File > New Input Window or use /newinput, and then place it where you like! 🙂

      Got it, thanks.

@Collective I've played a wolfbrother or two (probably not very surprising), and on one hand they made some things very fun to deal with based on what they were capable of, while on the other I felt like there were more opportunities that could have been out there that weren't capitalized on because there weren't many people to work on certain angles with.

One example would be touching more on things with the world of dreams and the relationship with the wolves themselves. Another could be a more open fight against the Dark, depending on what's going on. I'd try that again if the chance was there.

@enoch I like that. If you couldn't already tell, my attitude is I've done enough apps over the years that I just want to cover what someone needs to know to understand I "get" a character, and get to doing things.

@Seraphim73 The problem with BoD is neither of the people who run the game are all that good at coding stuff like that, and they have far too much going on to really focus on game improvements. There are numerous things that have never been put in place over the years for those reasons.

    • Zelda: Twilight Princess HD

Loved this game when it came out a decade ago, and I played the Wii version that was mirrored from the original left-handed design because they changed it to match up better with the Wiimote in the right hand.

After seeing someone talking about how to do screenshots with the Wii U (press the home button and it holds an image of the last thing that was on the screen) and uploading them to Miiverse, someone else explained how to do it through Imgur. It's basically the same way, just opening the internet browser instead, but the screenshots are larger. 1080p compared to the old 480p for the originals is also nice.

I saved about two dozen that do a nice job of showing off the upgraded textures and all. It's been fun playing this all over again, and there are a few improvements to the general gameplay convenience as well with what the gamepad allows you to do that a controller doesn't.

The Zora Armor still rocks, too.
