The biggest issue now with Avalon Hill is 'do you have the hours in the day.' So many of their games take so damn long to play.
Two words for you: Twilight Imperium.
It took my gaming group I kid you not 5 hours to set up and learn how to play and get through the first turn. That is a rulebook that is desperate need of shortening and possibly a cleaner translation from whatever nerd language it was written in into English. (I honestly think it was German.)

There are Reasons I have never played it. Like I kinda want to, but I also don't have the attention span to spend 12 hours on one game (which is how long it takes, on average, even for people who already know how to play the game).

I have to eat my Pho before I can play with my laptop.
Edited to add: omg it is so tasty.
Pho is one of my favorite things now. There's a place near where I live called 'Wat Da Pho'. I go there twice a week.
I admit I have never had it before, but I am very much a convert now. If only it didn't take so long to make I would probably learn to do it myself. Sooooo good.

Take me out for pho and drinks, Gany
Babe, you know where I live. Swing by, I'll put the kids in bed, and we'll drink and pho-k all night long.

@Thenomain The same thing happens EVERY time. We get together, we slog through remembering the rules. Things finally heat up and the game starts getting interesting and someone has to leave and does the 'take over my forces' thing and it falls apart. This game is the ultimate tease that NEVER leads to a satisfying board game orgasm.
Then it's forever before we play again, just long enough to forget the rules and have to do the entire process all over again.

Is Twilight Imperium the game where the first one to deploy the space-boobs wins? My group's played it a few times and it didn't really stand up to repeated playthroughs.

Stupid people when it comes to movies. They are out there! And they are hilarious!
I was reading a subreddit thread where people were talking about the worst movie misconceptions they had when it came to watching films.
One of them was "who is Gotham? why is Batman trying to save him?" by a guy's wife... who laughed so hard he was 'asked' to sleep on the couch afterwards.
Another was this guy when he was younger who asked his parents which astronaut "Houston" was, since they kept saying "Houston we have a problem".
Or a girl who after The Force Awakens asked her friends "wait, the bad guy was Han and Leia's son??" when they brought it up. Like... how did she manage to miss that!
I laughed.

Before Logan, there was a trailer for Alien: Covenant. A lady next to me in the theater turns to her friend: "Is this a Star War?"
Also, comment thread I saw on Facebook just now is relevant: dudebro trying to argue that Star Wars and the MCU "saved" Disney. Because, yaknow, Disney was totally floundering with all of its wildly successful movies, toy sales, and theme parks and Star Wars wasn't, y'know, dead in the water before they picked it up or anything.......
-
@Arkandel Yeah, this was the reason people went to Battle Beyond the Stars and totally failed to notice that John Boy Walton and Mark Hamill were not the same while George Peppard and Harrison Ford are not different either. Wait, I just noticed there were no lightsabers in this movie!
To the present day which is how Asylum Films continues to exist. Go see the Da Vinci Treasure or Sunday School Musical! Paranormal Entity? For the record, I really love Battle Beyond the Stars in that nostalgic sort of way but even as a kid I remember certain members of the audience coming out being confused.
-
@TwoGunBob It also explains - and to a point, justifies - why studios are treating audiences like they are dumb fucks sometimes, and they crap painful amounts of exposition down our throats.
They have to.
For some reason it doesn't piss me off, I love it. I mean some of my friends are like that, and they are by no means dumb.
For example my boss took us to watch Spiderman: Homecoming (second viewing for me) a few weeks ago, and I was talking to a coworker who watches next to no movies at all about it. He said he just couldn't get past one thing he found really unbelievable in the movie and kinda ruined it for him; when "a guy" (... Happy Hogan) was driving his whatever car model, he was shifting gears by moving the shifter up, but in that model the lever should be going down.
No, Mike, never mind the wall crawling teenager with the AI living in his pyjamas or his enemy with the suit made of alien technology spare parts flying around! Hell no, the shifter is the real issue!
-
@Arkandel A long, long time ago I went to a showing of Baz Luhrman's "Romeo + Juliet." As the credits were rolling, one of the teenagers a few rows ahead of me said in a tone of horrified surprise: "I didn't know they died at the end."
-
One time I fell asleep in the middle of Captain America during a vacation with @Roz, @saosmash, @Tez, and @Tat. When I fell asleep, the villain was just a normal Nazi. I woke up and very sleepily asked-- "But why is his face red??" To which they tried to explain it had always been red. But it wasn't when I fell asleep!
-
@Autumn My goodness, you should have at least tagged that with spoilers! Thanks for ruining it for me.
I don't know shouldn't everyone know the end of most of Shakespeare's plays?
Puck holds up the severed head of Yorick and Othello screams out, "All hail the king of England, Julius Casar!"
It's Shakespeare, everyone dies by the end.

Except when they don't, like Iago.

@Ganymede Well, yeah but his tongue got cut out. Hence why he will never speak a word, right?
Only reason I can come up with for him not explaining his actions.
Hmmm, it's my make nonsense interpretations up about Shakespeare day today. -

When fact and fiction meet, there is much confusion.

I am pretty sure if I had been the guy it would have ended the relationship. Not by my choosing but i would be unable to not back that periodically for the rest of my life until the point where she would kick my ass to the curb. All considered it might be a fair trade.

My recent trend of collecting whimsical Chinese erotica has hit paydirt.
The cover looks so innocent...
...but the contents are OH SO NOT SAFE FOR WORK!
Seriously. Don't follow the second link if you're at work (unless you work at a porn studio or something, in which case maybe you can take notes?).
