Didn't get the job.
Felt really, really good about this one.
They wouldn't even tell me anything other than the 'We really liked you, the team thought you were great, but we're going with other applicants.' spiel.I just want to give up except for the fact that with my current job having cut my hours, I'm stressing making ends meet.
I'll bounce back, I guess. Maybe. But right now I'm just having some tea after spending half an hour crying on my kitchen floor.
-
I just got one of those, a job I've applied for inside my company several times. In spite of the cheerleading of my immediate bosses, I'm finally at the point where my dedication to this company is not reciprocated.
Yes, that's normal, but I've seen it happen for this job. Just not for me.
Strength to ya.

@Gingerlily I'm actually on Zoloft, but I'm wondering if I either need to consider a dosage increase, or ask for a medication specifically for when I get an anxiety spike.
Xanax works wonders for me, I get horrible jitters about public speaking and have to sometimes with work and it just lets me coast.
I've recently tried Kava Kava too, and its incredibly effective, way more than I'd expect an herbal supplement to be.

This is me with Oxy.
Same. Rarely, rarely, percocet will get me into 'sit and stare at the wall in a daze' but not generally.
Ambien used to work, doesn't anymore. Trazodone doesn't work night-of, but leaves me feeling drugged the next day.
I hate my body's resistance.
Ambien is such a tease, it is amazing when you first start but tolerance builds sooo fast and then your body refuses to sleep with or without it. Ugh.

The way trazodone is now is worse tho. That feeling drugged the whole next day... The time I tried taking it, I spend a good hour or so just crying because of how bad it was. Like, couldn't see straight, walking into walls, every little thing took such immense concentration.... and that was after not being able to sleep the entire night.

Trazadone gave me horrible nightmares, the kind where you know you are dreaming but can't wake yourself up enough to stop. No ty.

I was originally put on it (as a teenager) to stop a bad cycle of hypnagogic hallucinations. It works great for some people! When I was on it then, it was amazing, which is why I was totally willing to give it another go when the ambien quit working.

I don't understand how medications can give people nightmares in the first place, it's so weird. They totally can though.

Try eating cheese before you go to sleep.
Then try ciprofoxacin before you sleep.

I am going through this weird period of depression and anxiety where I find it really difficult to drag myself into work, compounded by daily headaches and often, migraines. All of my energy seems to be like, sweating out of me, and I can practically see it leaving my body but I can't stop it.
It doesn't help that my job sucks and my house is a mess and just, bleh. I feel like there has to be some way to get my life together, but man, having the energy to do that seems impossible and then I feel worse.
-
@Meg, do you have access to healthcare? If so, I would strongly encourage you to make an appointment with a therapist or psychiatrist. Most places will send you to a therapist first, and then to a psychiatrist if it's determined that you need medication.
Edited to add: I am not an expert, but everything you've listed definitely hits the bullet points for signs of depression. If you don't have health insurance, I'd be happy to help you try and find something low cost or free in your area. This kind of pain isn't something you should have to live with.
-
@Cupcake I do. I've been struggling to get care though, for a couple of months. All of the therapists/psychiatrists in my network nearby are not accepting new patients, ever. So I am going through my PCP just to get some antidepressants, but my brain is a lot more complicated and fucked up and it really shouldn't be treated with just antidepressants. I don't really have that choice right now, though.
-
@Meg That's pretty fucking appalling. Does your provider have a nurse consulting service? It's possible if you call them and can convince them that you have a critical need, they'll be able to advocate for you to an in-network person, or look into getting you some kind of waiver to go out of network.
-
@meg Under the 'beggars can't be choosers' philosophy, you might want to look into free mental health clinics and medical schools that train psychiatrists/psychologists.

The mismatch between good, informative, positive material between workout content created for men and women is outstanding. It was really unsettling when I realised the disparity recently.
As a guy when I want to refine my form for exercises there is no end to the articles and videos I can find catering specifically to me. Trainers with credentials and competitions under their belts will break this shit down in terms of mechanics, explain leverages, show how to lift to prevent injury, how to stretch and increase mobility... all of that is easily accessible and free. Better yet they look like... everything - some are musclebound slabs of muscle, others look like middle aged men who take care of themselves. Some are just plain overweight (but still brutally strong). Some care about their looks, some obviously don't, but they all care about the movements, progression and health.
I was looking into the same stuff for women lately and holy shit what is this crap? The first screens worth of search matches, unless they are carefully refined, are populated with young Instagram models lifting pink tiny weights. Not that I mind the view but they aren't showing off how to squat in their videos, they are just showing their ass - and the form itself on many is shaky at best, with the explanations themselves literally coming down to "yeah, so sit down and then stand back up!". Gee, thanks?
Now don't get me wrong, there are some really good athletes and accredited trainers in the mix. Stefanie Cohen is a goddamn superheroine, that chick can lift things I can't even fathom (nevermind that she gets comments by men deriding her on youtube), but that's almost scarce compared to the male-oriented content. Almost nowhere to be found were the 15+ minute videos breaking down compound movement phase by phase which I was used to seeing - for the most part the content seemed to be... super skinny early 20s girls promoting their physique.
Meh.

I don't mean to sound condescending, but welcome to the wonderful world of gender inequity in North America.
Imagine if you're a young man who is learning too. Who are you going to follow? The slender, whip-like trainer, or the muscle-man? What's your ideal image? Will you be able to get to it?
Imagine if you're a young woman who is learning. The message is clearer: don't be big and strong; be slender and toned. And then walk into restaurants, where everything is PROTEIN and ERMAHGERD SUPERFOOD PROTEIN and EAT MEAT PUSSY ERMAHGERD PROTEIN.
It kind of sucks.

I took a new position within my company.
It doesn't pay any better. In fact, once I factor in commuting, I'll make less.
But it'll take me off a project that has been stressing me out and had me fighting outright quitting day after day (sometimes hour after hour).I thought I did the right thing, because it'll have me working out of their local office. I'll meet people! I'll be doing something new!
But I haven't worked out of the house in 7 years.
I start on Tuesday and I'm so anxious about it that I'm sick. -

It kind of sucks.
See, my greatest issue with that is that in promoting the body fat percentage so much it actually hurts people's health. Squats aren't good because they make your ass more round (although they do that, too), they are great because they strengthen your posterior chain so in your sixties you can get off the toilet without needing help and keep you from requiring hip replacement surgery.
That, and promoting body self issues through this crap. You don't need to be 11% body fat to be strong or healthy.
