Reactions to 08192015 Update

@TNP
Can that even be done? Doesn't this server use some different database like Mongo or something that no other forum software uses? It honestly seems like the devs for the forum software just want to come something complex, and from reading about people trying to install it, seeming to not care that it's complex. -
For me I thought and think the upgrade is cool, to everyone else wigging out...
-
@Bobotron Not a clue. Wikis, forums, and the like are not my thing. All I know is their webpage states:
A better forum platform for the modern web.
If this is the modern web, we're backsliding.
-
I agree with TNP if this is modern I will gladly stay behind the times.
I have gotten to where I accept the new look and can use it well enough but yeah i miss it looking like a board.
It does not quite look as bad as the youtube comments as Raptors hyperbole but we can see that from here. -
@ThatGuyThere
All it's really missing is nested replies and even more aggressive stupidity than even we usually generate. -

Please don't tempt fate like that.

I read your reply before I read your quote, and I honestly had a brief moment of chagrin as I nodded, thinking the way things are going nested replies might be next.

Also this is annoying as fuck: The bottom of the composition box is getting cut off by my task bar.
I thought maybe it was my Classic Shell for win10, but it's doing it on the Win7 machine in the other room, too. In the picture there I've actually got the numbers typed out to 8 but everything on the last line disappears below the task bar now. No amount of scrolling down (on either scroll bar) will let me see anything below that.
This behavior isn't showing up on any other websites, forums or otherwise. >_<

Same here.

But it's BETTER, guys. It's an IMPROVEMENT. Never mind that we don't like it and didn't ask for it and was poorly implemented. It's NEWER. And that makes it BETTER. At least that's what the fanboy apologists will keep telling us.

Seriously. Chill the fuck out.
The old forum did have some legitimate problems that needed to be fixed. Such as bad gateways showing up for no reason, lag time (I know that WTFE says it's slower, but it's a lot faster for me), and people suddenly being told "denied!" when trying to log in.
This unfortunately came with a layout change.
I swear to god have you people been living under a fucking rock? Facebook does this like twice a fucking year. Google does the same. Shit changes.
Do you also scream at children who have grown up? Cut their hair? Dyed it?
Or better yet do you yell at people who aren't using rotary phones anymore?
We get it. You don't like the way it looks now. That's sad for you, it fixes problems that needed to be fixed. It isn't "better" because it's "newer", it's better because it's fixed legit problems with the board.

Ever since the upgrade, I'm getting bad gateway errors many times a day. I wasn't before the upgrade.

Reporting problems and offering constructive criticism are legitimate reasons to post on any forum worth its salt.
If something's wrong it should be brought up whether it's 'new' or 'old'. I've experienced several problems with this version of the forum even after I cleared the cache, including Bad Gateway errors.
Having said that, it's a free service someone else is offering us. Whoever doesn't like it I'm sure @Glitch will be happy to give them a full refund.

After I cleared the cache, I didn't have any issues with the forum yesterday, but I did get both a 504 and 502 Bad Gateway error this morning. Not complaining, just noting it here for whomever looks into these things. I expect there will be some bumps in the road before the software really settles in. Hell, we should all be used to this. Practically anytime something updates (including many drivers, websites, and OS's), there's usually a grace period where snags are found and fixed.

Bad gateways 100% of the time for four solid hours here. This is literally the first thing I've been able to read all evening.
-
Yeah, some time after 1 a.m. EST, it looks like there were no completed connections to the forums. This morning, I did a fresh install after all of the 504s and 502s yesterday due to memory issues. I'm keeping an eye on memory usage right now and will try to keep tabs on it throughout the day.
-
Damn this is horrible. I'm on the ew I don't like wagon, too.
@Cobaltasaurus If it fixed legit problems, fair enough. It fixed 'em while making the forum look like utter shit in the process. But I can accept the idea that it might be a necessary trade, even as I despise it. I don't think its hysterics, its just my opinion. The new layout has that utterly transient feel of youtube/facebook comment sections. Where nothing said really matters, its just an accumulation of white noise. That said I'm sure I'll survive and adapt. After all, its not like we say all that much meaningful here, either.

I know that nodebb is dedicated to the latest and greatest in hipster tech, which thus means "eventually consistent" databases and their ilk, but this is getting a little preposterous:
This is a(n obviously) annotated screenshot of the "unread" section:
Can you see a problem? (Hint: Sesame Street did many segments on this very issue!)
For the record, this was after a full refresh and waiting for everything to settle down traffic-wise.
-
@WTFE, is there any chance there were multiple responses in those four threads, thus giving you 6 unread posts? It'd be a little silly on the designer's part, but might at least explain what's going on.
