Is there any MU out there that is not full of cliques? ANY???? Looking for something without inherent exclusion.

"Cliques" are not inherently bad IMO, and I think you're going to have a hard time finding such a game, because they are a natural thing in human social interactions.

People play with people they like. I know I have fun playing with Jane and Joe, so I'm going to spend a fair chunk of my play time (and that can be read without the word 'play', I'm spending a chunk of my time with them, because I know I enjoy it) playing with them. Playing outside of your circle of people you know you mesh with is a risk of wasting a valuable, limited resource. Your time.

Most places tend to have at least a small population who are always willing to play outside that circle, especially with new people, though.

One easy way I've found to help deal with this, is to app into the most active faction on a game. It doesn't always work, because yeah, sometimes the faction is overrun by cliques. But, giving people more of a reason to include you tends to help.

Could you be more specific than clique? That's a group of friends who play together. I can't think of any place that forbids that or has a set up that won't have that gathering happening.

I have a waggish sense of humor.

If we're talking about WoD games, let me remind you:

              Cabal
              Coterie
              Pack
              Motley
              Krewe
              ...

That is built into the system, and rewarded.

Racism isn't Tinkerbell. It doesn't need you to believe in it for it to exist.

                Superhero teams.

Just about every game, every genre, has something that will spite characters into smaller groups that tend to play together. It only becomes a clique when they actively exclude anyone else from joining.

Apparently clique as a word is neutral about exclusion. Exclusive or abusive cliques are at a minimum not helpful, or unhealthy and destructive.

I suspect VK wants a place not made up of a bunch of exclusionary cliques, but I asked just to be sure.

I have a waggish sense of humor.

I honestly don't mean to be snide, but if you're just asking about "clique" as "tight-knit group of people," this doesn't exist. And I agree they're fairly neutral. Any collection of humans that number more than 3 people will break into cliques. They're only bad if they get all Mean Girl to newbs or set out to actively denegrate players they don't like, and this isn't behavior that's really predictable until you're a victim of it. Nor is it exclusive to any particular MU* or game.

@Misadventure has it. From what I've seen, most cliques, @Derp's post being case in point, are exclusionary. I'd love to find a place where that's not the case. It doesn't have to be WoD.

I know at least one game that isn't clicky. Maybe 2.

To be fair there is a large difference between a coterie/pack/krewe etc and a clique. A clique is exclusionary and reduces peoples chances to RP with others. A baked in thing like a coterie/pack/krewe etc is a thing to /facillitate/ rp and doesn't have to be a closed system.

Clique's suck. Group RP is awesome.

I have noticed myself the mushes are less clique-y then in the past.
None of the places I have tried in the last couple of years have been that hard to find rp in, finding a group I really clicked well with might be a different story but most places I have seen people have been pretty open to new comers.
The last place I felt I had trouble finding Rp because I was new was Haunted Memories.

I think this is in part because most games are infinitely less "competitive" than they used to be. So there's less "fear". Barring the outliers like RfK. Most are pretty sandboxy/non-competitive at all, and the antaganists are usually specifically outside the sphere rather than other players/factions.

You know how if you meet a jerk in the morning you met a jerk, but if everyone you met in the morning was a jerk, you are the jerk?

There are no games without cliques, it's basic human behavior to hang out with people you know or you have something in common with, etc. Chances are significant if you're on a MU* and 'there are no cliques, phew!' all it means is that you're part of them.

I'm on Eldritch, I know folks, in fact some of them have been playing with me in one form or the other for years. Of course the game isn't cliquish - for me. For another it can be a different story.

The best advice I can offer on this front is to find a place that's new or starting up, or has just opened a new area or sphere. While some people come in as a pre-designed group, it's not a universal thing, and at that point everyone is 'new' so there are not so many circles that have already formed up at that point around RP that went down before you got there.

This is more a factor of time being a limited resource for most folks these days than it is deliberate exclusion, in most cases I've seen in recent years. There are certainly exceptions, but a lot of those are rather glaring.

You also have to be pro-active. If a faction group like the one @Derp mentions says it's taking new members, talk to them about it. Don't wait for them to come to you. (I have no idea if you do this or not, and not suggesting that you do -- but I've seen a hell of lot of people expect to be approached by every group on grid that takes new people like some kind of high school football star getting drafted for a college team, which is frickin' absurdity incarnate -- so it's worth a mention.)

                                    Oh fucking well.

@surreality This is true, and even more so - there are times when it frustrates me to see people complain about things which they are at least partially responsible for if not nearly entirely.

A classic case of this is finding a pack. It's such a cliche to see 4-5 people sitting there on a channel bemoaning the fact 'there are no packs' simultaneously - make one!

Roleplay availability? The same deal. "There are no PrPs!" "I'll run a PrP for you, what do you want to do?" "I dunno". Or "There's no one to play with!" "Hey, wanna play?" <silence>

If I sit in a room on my own and make no effort to meet anyone else then I'm not exactly being a thrilling option for them to go out of their way to meet. I get being shy, I really do. But although cliques can be a plague on entire games depending on how they manifest they're orthogonal to self isolation.

Page Jared. I play with lots of people. Though this also means I'm also often in a scene with someone or have something lined up for later that means I shouldn't start something.

Yup. Though considering how many listings I've seen that say 'actively recruiting' or similar on a variety of games, it isn't hard to find groups that really, really want more people to come into the fold and say so outright.
