@Coin I'm surprised it's not a thing after all these years simply because it's such a blank canvas. You could literally do a sci-fi mu* set in the now all the way to a far flung future.

Speaking of that I think an mu* based on xcom would be fun. Remember how you would die before you even got all your men out of your ship?

Oh yes! Xcom would rule!! You'd need a system that kept your soldiers from hitting the enemies, though. Maybe have something like Marvel Hero's doom pool going on.

I'd like to see, in rough order of excitement:

          • Historical nWoD, esp. such as the Musketeers or Grimm's Tales periods from the upcoming Dark Eras book
          • a popular Star Wars game, with wide scope and not too gimmicky, like SW1 during its heyday
          • a Dune game (preferably before first book, but definitely not incorporating any of the B. Herbert/Kevin J. stupid shit)
          • a decent Star Trek game with more RP and less sim
          • something that does Ancient Roman times, but fantasified
          • everybody wants Shadowrun, but how about Earthdawn?

How would XCOM rule outside of a MUD context?

I have a waggish sense of humor.

@Misadventure Well, you have your cadre of elite soldiers (the PCs) and they have a clear team goal to work for.

There are also shady Exalt troopers doing terrorist missions that you have to stop, and you can do fun undercover missions against Exalt to thwart their attempts to take over countries.

This is before we even get to bumping off big headed aliens and capturing flying saucers. There's lots of awesome RP that can happen around this, and the setting lends itself to PrPs--Bored? Grab 3 friends and shoot mutoids in the streets of Brussels!

                  Things I have considered:

                  • 2e nwod Werewolf game with a heavy focus on plot and territory (currently working on this).
                  • Monsterhearts game
                  • Apocalypse/Fallout/Mad Max like game with a heavy focus on survival simulation and social RP.
                  • Science-Fantasy game. Magic and Steamtech. Something that combines elements from both that I love.
                  • I actually think a MU set in one of the Magic the Gathering settings could be great. Dominaria or Ravnica.

I also love my games to be gritty/high lethality. Which is missing on almost every Mush I have tried.

Maaaan. I am really tempted to do a mobster style mu* in a more modern setting. I'd do it with the Saints Row flavor. So outrageous and stupid it is fun.

I would play the hell out of this. Particularly if it wasn't 'everyone's a planewalker' and you could do things like in earlier MtG novels and play bog-standard wizards and the people that work with them and in some cases the things they summon.

Iron Kingdoms would be amazing, if not hilariously complicated given that nearly all of the combat stuff involves miniatures (moreso than D&D 4e; you could just use a grid for 4e. Iron Kingdoms is the setting for Warmachine/Hordes, so it uses the same rules as the wargame about 98% of the time)

@Misadventure besides the highly expendible soldiers, you could have support staff: medical, engineers/scientists, diplomats, mechanics. Center it around the experimental xcom base and a "wtf is going on, fight the unknown, possibly evil aliens" story arc, along with prp's and i'd say you have a pretty viable mush.

Dude. I think a Men in Black (like, the movie, not the oWoD group) game would be seriously fun. Incorporate a lot of really gonzo things like time/dimensional travel, and let players invent alien refugees hiding out on earth, with their own factions and shit.

Mostly just so at some point the playerbase and staff can arrange a gigantic rap dance-off.

I can't really see the movie properties as a good game setting. Maybe Mad Max. The rest deal with the very special, very singular character(s) at the focus of an entire setting and how they come into their destiny.

So you won't be Neo with powers. You'll be doing hit and run missions into a virtual space, to what end?

Firefly, okay you don't get River, so you are excluded from the Hands of Blue for the most part. If you just like the ten planets sharing the lifezone but not close enough to notice when millions on an entire planet go silent, I guess that's fine.

Mad Max is the same, but while the main characters were heroic, they were very local in another westernish setting.

Pacific Rim, do we all get to be Mecha-Buffy, or can we be the support team? The tiny, tiny, never in the fight support team who will never learn anything meaningful because that's what the movie is about?

The rest are better! Much better.

There was a Matrix MUSH long ago, back before the second and third movies came out. It was pretty fun, actually. The staff had built up their own 'here's what the One is, here's what the real world backstory is' and it was things like sabotage missions, extractions and such. It came from some of the people who worked in the Transformers/Megaman MUSH circuit, so it was very faction-based with human groups (including a Cypher-inspired 'return to the Matrix, stop Zion' angle). They didn't allow FCs; the FCs were major NPCs, but they didn't end up overshining things too terribly, and people had stuff to do as it was one of the first games that I was ever on that had some clearly defined 'here's a list of bad guy machine things you can pull out to run'.

Pacific Rim, do we all get to be Mecha-Buffy, or can we be the support team? The tiny, tiny, never in the fight support team who will never learn anything meaningful because that's what the movie is about?

You could get a lot of mileage out of it, treating it like, say, Evangelion and expanding on your own. Don't limit yourself to the exact damn details of the source material and it's a fine setting.

Edit: Okay, I was on my phone. So here goes:

I am all for The Strange... Hell, even Numenera. They both look like spectacular game systems to run around in. Could always stick with The Strange and either pull resources from Numenera or just create a Recursion with a Numenera-like theme... or something. I am not extremely familiar with that game system, but it looks like I will be. I'm partial to a card game called Doomtown and for some reason, have ideas of creating a Recursion with that theme. Wild West + Magic + Gadgets! (I'm not a fan of that combo, but the card game is fun)

Shadowrun because I like trolls and assault rifles. That's it. Honestly though, I simply love the setting and have been playing it on and off since 2nd edition.

Shard RPG, originally called Dardunah, but after the creator took the game to a few conventions, a few 'big wigs' in the industry suggested that because of how hard it was to say Dardunah, the game would never take off. Sure, it's a furry game and I've never actually played a furry game, but this game is just amazing. Plus, I know the creators of the game. I am sure that if this were put together, I could bring them in on occasion to chat everyone up. Buuuuut.... The Strange/Numenera dang, those games look amazing and their themes are intriguing.

Finally, there (oddly, my phone changed that to their, partially why I am now on my computer typing this up) is Eclipse Phase. Horror-esque theme, Transhumanism, Space!
