Searching For A Game

So, I've pretty much strictly played oWoD/nWoD my entire MU*ing career (so, 20+ years now). I love RPIng and have a lot of fun with it, but as we all know, there are fewer and fewer WoD games out there these days.
I thought I'd try branching out a bit and get some suggestions from people on possible games to try out that maybe aren't WoD. Hopefully a game with active players that would be welcoming of a newbie to the genre.
Anyone have any suggestions of a place to look into? Thanks in advance.
Also, if there are WoD games out there that are active, please let me know!

@redjellybean City of Hope is an active WoD game, but reviews are, well, let's just say they're mixed.

@redjellybean City of Hope is terrible. There's a 20th anniversary game, Liberation, which has all the 20th splats (Mage, Wraith, Vampire, Changeling, Garou, Changing Breed). Lemme know if you're interested and I'll DM you the addy.

Is it open? I googled it and found a pretty bare-bones site, but there wasn't any address there and it made it seem like it wasn't finished.

@wizz The sphere pages have a LOT of info about the ongoing metaplot. Right now, it's in soft open/beta. People are RPing, getting approved, but so far no XP expenditures (though you do get XP to test the XP system), no plots, until they officially open. Check your dm.

@chibichibi I too am curious about this place.

I highly recommend my two current games. Not WoD ( I burned out on that scene a decade or two ago), but fairly accessible comics games.
X-Men Divergence: Limited scope (Mutant characters only), pre-made roster characters only, meshes into the current titles so it's easy to find the source material although not necessary. You don't have to be an expert on the X-folks, every character has a Background that is fairly self-explanatory and includes pre-existing RP connections and social relationships. Very friendly and VERY active player base (the game has been open for about 2 1/2 months and there's 725+ logged scenes). Even if you are a Marvel Loremaster, the game canon simplifies several decades of rather convoluted comics lore and plugs up some gaps that developed over the years. Applications are fast and generally have you on the grid in 30 minutes or so. I play Beast/Hank McCoy there.
Shadows & SHIELDs: A Marvel Movie-adjacent game. If you've seen the movies up to Avengers, you're golden. The focus is SHIELD and the Avengers against HYDRA and other threats. With a bit of DC Comics thrown in, as well as Captain America & Red Skull being gender-swapped. It's more investigation and sneaky based than typical comics beat-em-ups. I play Iron Man/Tony Stark, and I'm getting more action out of the Stealth Armor than the 'regular' armors.

Depending on what you're into there's three games that I'm more or less actively playing on. They're all based on the Ares Engine so have full web portal functionality to play via web and client. (I purely play via portal because I find it much less stressful!)
-
Crystal Springs - A game where you play an actor starring in a 24/7-esque television show where you play a high school student in the California city of Crystal Springs. Very active, lots of friendly players and ways to get involved in stuff. Also Pacha, the site creator/admin/ST, is fantastic.
-
The Network - Another game where you are an actor but this time it's for a place called The Network. You don't have any solid memories of who you were before coming to the Network and the theme rotates every few months. Each show you take on the entirety of your Season character and don't have any memories of anything else until you come back to the Dome - which is the place the Actors live between Seasons.. Now is an excellent time to check it out because the previous season just finished so all the Actors are back in the Dome and the next Season will be starting in a few months or so. Very active with lots of friendly players here too and lots to get involved in if you wish.

Gray Harbor - Set in the PNW, in Washington, Gray Harbor is a modern supernatural setting. It's fallen from the activity that it used to have but it is starting to gain steam again and there are several dedicated players who are still around and very welcoming. The best way to describe the setting to me is if you like Stephen King, you'll love this. I often like to think of 'It' and even 'The Shining' as good examples. So if you like the idea of having some psychic like abilities and supernatural things messing with you this is it! This is the game that utilizes the Web Portal for Ares the most of the three - in the sense that the time zones are often all spread out so a lot of the scenes are Asynchronous so everyone can participate.

Arx is pretty much the fantasy game of the moment. The learning curve is steep, but the investment of time is worth it.
I can also recommend Savage Skies. I think it is still active.

My game, Firefly - Still Flyin', has a small but active crowd, and we're glad to have newbies join in.
