Goofy things one does in down time.

Off work tomorrow!
So I am celebrating by watching utube vidoes of people's seed hauls!
Like ooooo look at the seeds I got 2022.
That is kind of silly, but shockingly fun! Seeds!

I spent an entire evening watching YouTube videos of the various ways people churn butter, from the old fashioned dash churns, to the newer crank churns, to one woman who showed three different ways, (shaking a jar of cream, using a KitchenAid, and using an electric churn.) I think my favorite was the woman with the Ninja blender.
I also ended up very happy I didn't buy that 40 dollar handcrank churn that I saw a year or two ago in Target. Apparently, it's a POS and if I ever get around to making butter, well, I have a KitchenAid.
-
@reimesu As a kid on a long plane ride I once made butter by shaking one of those little plastic pots of cream (might've been half and half?) they gave out for coffee back in the day.
I was very bored. But also proud of my tiny lump of butter. >_>

I watched a video for over an hour of a guy fixing a watch. I don't care about watches, or watch repair, or watch history... but this was strangely compelling.
-
I watch videos on youtube that tend to be in the same ballpark:
Cleaning extremely cluttered/dirty houses.
Fixing up extremely overgrown yards.
Renovating old houses.Definitely a theme. I think I get extreme enjoyment seeing the results, the tangible results.
Also love watching reactions to music, especially music I know well. I wonder what that is, but clearly I am not alone. Might be the sense of sharing love over that good song with someone who's never heard it before. Like how sometimes you've excitedly 'forced' friends to listen to that song you just found and love.
-
I watch a lot of videos of people making things. Typically:
- Tiny versions of big things (like for a doll's house), out of polymer clay
- Jewellery, either with wire wrapping or sometimes resin pours
- Cake decorating (which, weirdly, never makes me want to eat the cake)
It gives me an odd sense of satisfaction, even though I'm not the one making the thing. Just appreciating how skilled some people are I guess!
-
I like to search Amazon for Transformer toys and watch YouTube videos by Sideways.
-
I feel lowbrow because my destress brain candy videos of choice involve videos of ingrown hair or earwax removal and compilations of tiktok fart pranks (on youtube). Also horrible things like dance moms and toddlers and tiaras clips. And redneck barbie car races.
Though I do also disappear into food travel videos and documentaries too.

Those videos are so stressful to me until they finally get the stuff extracted, at which point the relief I feel is worth the entire video and more.
-
Adding another, cause I am also right now obsessed with Korean shows, so much so that I think my co-workers are annoyed with me cause I talk about them a lot. It's all I watch apart from the other random few shows (The Witcher just came out after all, and I watch Wheel of Time.)
-
Also omg. As someone who loves spoilers and who rarely has the attention span or physical capacity to feel comfortable just sitting and watching something for a few hours--the many channels of movie recaps sometimes with super unintentionally humorous commentary are quite lovely.

@mietze
I have a hard time paying attention to tv shows. I daydream or start to do other things. Sometimes I want to know about a story, but I don't have the attention span to watch a show and will watch utube reviews in place of watching the actual show!I also can pay attention to utube short utube videos about 15 mins and under, way more than I can a tv show and I can pay attention to how to videos (for me its mostly on gardening) much better than I can to a fiction storyline.
I want to like Wheel of Time, but it is hard for me to keep focused on, so I watch it, trail off, miss half the stuff and then watch utube. I even got some understanding from reading MSB about it!
I watched the start of the first episode of witch about 10 times and still cannot tell you how it starts.

I like a calm Youtube video, so I'm usually settling down to watch some sewing projects (Bernadette Banner or Rachel Maksy). Or I'm watching someone make and use wilderness technology. Primitive Technology ONLY, no knock-offs. I want to learn how to make clay pottery or a fire drill, not watch a couple of kids make their 100th underground pool that is useful for exactly nothing except breeding mosquitoes and falling apart the next day. I also watch hoof trimming videos, but I just want to watch the job, no clickbaity crap and constant talking / music.
So yeah I'm pretty picky about my chill time.

Bernadette Banner or Rachel Maksy
A+++ right there.

I work up really high. Sometimes really, really high. But I really enjoy, before the job is truly done, to lay on rooftops and watch clouds to relax. Sometimes I'll sit up there and enjoy my morning coffee, and the rising sun.
It's not all of them but, I actually have some photos loaded. Some are from the drone, some from 120' lifts.

These are really pretty! Thanks for sharing!
